What Are Tonsil Stones ?

Your tonsils are two lumps of tissue that sit in the back of your throat on either side. If you open your mouth really big, you can see them peeking on the upper corners of your throat.
Tonsils are part of the immune system and they are on the entrance of the airway and the digestive tract to be the first organs to detect and notify your immune system about harmful substances so you can build a defense potential disease. That’s why they usually get swollen when you get a cold or allergies.
Tonsils are usually smooth, but some people have tonsils that have deep pits and narrow channels that can gather food particles, dead cells and mucus and form yellowish rubbery nuggets that we call tonsil stones.
Tonsil stones not only may cause breath problems, they can get embedded in the tonsil tissue and over time they grow and start causing swelling and discomfort.
