I could say this on every video but man do I miss that team, it was a great time to be a fan and it was nothing but football. Gary Clark belongs in the HOF, loved Pat and John doing those games too.
Joe Gibbs is a HOF coach and one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. But he wasn't perfect and we should't shy away from criticizing him. In this game, I think we see Gibbs's biggest weakness and that was his conservative play calling. I really believe that Gibbs could've had a dozen more wins on his coaching resume if he didn't so often get cold feet on 4th down. Sure, he 'went for it' on 4th down many times in his career, but too often he settled for easy field goals and conservative punting. If you're on the 1 yard line and you don't have the confidence to push it over the goal line, what does that say about your offense and the confidence you have in them? The Skins had what, like 6 trips inside the 20 yard line in this game, and all they had on the scoreboard is 16 points?? You're practically begging the other team to find a way to beat you. This game shouldn't have been this close and you can blame the coaching staff.
Wsh had lousy home wins vs Atl & det to start the yr but next at home vs den a blowout so came into this one playing its a-game and that was what needed in a close one vs a more difficult team
Defending Super bowl Champs in 92 Rypien was not the same quarterback in 92..Incredible in 91 though! Held out in training camp in 92..never the same after that! Nevertheless our defense was awesome in 92..If Brian Mitchell didn't fumble in playoffs at 49ers..we would at very least made nfc championship game..and then who knows?? HTTR
Cowboys likely would have blown the Redskins away in the NFC title game. And the 49ers turned the ball over 4 times. They could just as easily scored a lot more points too.
@@fantasticvoyage262 yeah and Rypien was horrible in 92..It's easy to predict what would have happened 30 years later..The Skins made a laundry list of mistakes in 92. And what if they didnt?? No one knows how things could hav gone..Especially if a Lil 91 magic could hav showed up at the rite time
@@jamiedove430 You just answered your own question. Rypien regressed so much that year that any Super Bowl run would have been highly improbable. 9 - 7 teams weren't winning the Super Bowl back then.
@@jamiedove430 You just conceded that Rypien took a big step back that year. Which is true. The reality is the Redskins were nowhere near the team they were the year before. And the Cowboys were plowing through everyone in their path.
@@RetroSkins Oh, that is so cool! I didn't realize any other team other than the Rams were in St. Louis. Thank you for the reply, also thanks for the content man. I am loving seeing these older games.
Yes…John Madden and Pat Summerall! The dynamic duo!
True indeed ! R.I.P. to them both 🙏🏾🙏🏾☮️☮️🕊️🕊️
Very nice video. Thanks
This was one of those really hard fought defensive games that the Redskins pulled out. Under Joe Gibbs, it was hard to win at RFK.
🔥🔥🔥
Can you get us the 2nd cowboys game?

A big reason why they lost in 89 to the Eagles at RFK and lost out on the wildcard spot. Joe got conservative and the Eagles made a comeback.
Sigh HTTR

I don't mean to sound stupid, but who was the 5th team? Phoenix? I was born in 96' so I missed out on this time period lolol.
Cardinals. They move to the NFC West in 2002, were originally the St. Louis Cardinals and hence long ago an NFC East team.

RFK was a great place to watch a game. It was loud and rowdy. That place held in the noise like a tin can.
Pro Football Reference is great for showing all of the standings and scores over the years.
