1986 RetroSkins Highlights: Redskins vs Eagles

- Let’s go back to 1986 and wrap up the regular season with the Redskins and Eagles from cold, crummy Veteran’s Stadium. The playoff-bound Redskins were 11-4 while the rebuilding Eagles were 5-9-1 under villainous first year head coach Buddy Ryan. For a long while, though, it was hard to figure the Redskins as the winning team in this one. Washington was shaking off the funk of two straight losses that put them out of the NFC East race, as the Eagles popped out to a 14-point first quarter lead. From there the Redskins bumbled and fumbled around before QB Jay Schroeder and the offense regrouped for a suddenly stellar 21-point fourth quarter rally to nip that wily, hairpin-legged Randall Cunningham and his Eagles in front of a dissatisfied Philly crowd (are they ever satisfied?)
Ricky Sanders (a familiar name wearing an unfamiliar number) had a staller day with Gary Clark nursing an injury on the sidelines. Schroeder’s late-game heroics capped off a Pro Bowl, 4,000+ yard passing season, and got Washington back on the winning track in time for a more than respectable playoff run.
The honorable Jack Buck and a still-limping Joe Thiesmann on the call from everyone’s favorite cesspool, the Vet. Captured directly from VHS to HD/1080p (who knew you could?!), and unretouched for that genuine '80s feel!

I listened to this game on an amtrak train from DC to NY. At one point, I was standing between cars to get good reception! A great memory.
I didn't know Ricky Sanders started off with No 46 wooow
my favorite Redskins uni combination; Road burgundy jersey over white pants. Classic. #HTTR 4 Life
You must’ve loved 2001!
on the contrary I hated seeing us where those at home, esp during warm weather games. The Adidas branding was even worse
@@aaronburkley5319Those are also my favorite redskins away jerseys when they played at the Phoenix cardinals
@@juliansmith1951 yes I recall them only appearing at Phoenix, at Dallas, and sometimes at Philadelphia. Made em feel extra special
Damn Keith Byars #42 And Rickey Sanders #46 crazy times 🤣🤣🤣
#HTTR what a comeback.... so many memories as a little little kid with this team
I love that Eagles' DB Terry Hoage #34 was on the best team in NFL history a few years later, playing special teams for the '91 Skkns
Ricky Sanders still wearing number 46 here - the next season he would switch to his more familiar number 83
These edits keep getting better & better
Thank you! Learning more about video capture and editing as we go along…
While the aforementioned rebuilding Eagles were 5-9-1 going into this game, they were coming off an upset win at Texas Stadium, eliminating Dallas from the playoffs and officially ending their streak of 20 straight winning seasons
Jack Buck is really letting the game action develop, not stepping on anything. Very interesting to listen to.
More Jack Buck to come!
My man
WUSA 9’s own, Jess Atkinson!
Good memory. He’s lucky he was TV handsome!
Is he still with channel 9?
They'll always be The Redskins.
It’ll take a couple three more generations to die off before that happens minimum.
Yes,sir
They always will be HERE!
It’s not a racial slur, if the term is not a slur. It’s a term that expresses a warrior and brave spirit, which the Native Americans were famous for being brave in battle. Similar to The Notre Dame Fightin’ Irish.
@@michaelprunty3104I'm pretty sure the term Redskin didn't become a racial slur until the French started referring to the Native Americans as that (during the French and Indian war) BUT for many years before and after Native Americans themselves referred THEMSELVES as Redskins and still to this day take lots of pride with it.
It only seems a very small politically driven Natives that "get offended" by it. The ones who are more politically driven than anything. It's sad.
many of the guys in this game will be at the CSA convention tomorrow signing autographs and taking photos - Art Monk, Ricky Sanders, Gary Clark, Randall Cunningham even Joe Theismann! Come on out to the CSA show if you wanna meet these legends!
@evancorte2 Feel free to show them this channel! It’s all about them!
@@RetroSkins I will!
@evancortez2 If they have old tapes they want digitized w/HD capture, tell them to email! :)
@@RetroSkins I'll make sure to tell them that!
Schroeder and Rypien sure did have some pretty deep balls just wish they were more consistent they each only really had one good yr for the skins that's it
This game was famous for Joe Gibbs' uncharacteristic halftime tirade.
It worked… eventually.
💯💯💯
Was this the game Gibbs went yelled at his team and threw oranges . Then they played great in the second half and won
I get the feeling Theissmann didnt like Jay Schroeder lol
Loving tha Channel , Can you show Some Heartbreak Losses Also
As a starving grad student back in the day, VHS tapes cost $ and losses were recorded over. But Redskins heartbreak losses can be found on other, less reputable UA-cam channels. 😁
@RetroSkins I can dig it Champ! GLAD FOR THA GOOD MEMORIES
In which game did cheap-shot artist Andre Waters injure Jess Atkinson?
No sewage ever spilled on fans at the Vet. Seats were added there, not removed.
Not at RFK either, Beagle. Stupid azz Snyder is GONE. New Fed Ex fixed. Rest of ya'll 'bout feel our fury this new era!!!! RAISE HAIL!!!
