Why was Lilly Singh cancelled?

  • Since getting cancelled a few years ago, Lilly Singh has pretty much dropped out of popular media. But last year she gave a Ted Talk where she does her explain to why she failed, and answer may not surprise you. Lilly was quick to blame the patriarchy and racism - but is she right?
In this video, I analyze Lilly Singh Ted Talk, and where it all went so wrong.

One time I commented on one of Lilly’s videos and got a few likes. I said something along the lines that she reminded me of my favorite cousin, so happy, funny & clever but that I hoped that one day she would find herself and start being genuine.
Years later, she came out as bisexual and at the time I thought it was her bisexuality, but there’s something in her eyes that have never felt genuine, it’s like she still havent found herself and is just pretending to be a person that she just simply isn’t.
Lilly still reminds me of my favorite cousin, they physically look alike and personality wise they still are the same. Mid 30s and no accountability.
On the other hand, being funny on youtube doesn’t make you funny on TV where the audience is more mature.

00:00 📺 Lilly Singh, once a successful UA-camr and late-night TV show host, gave a TED Talk reflecting on her career.
00:56 🎤 In her talk, Lilly attributes her decline in popularity to the system being rigged against her.
02:47 💪 Lilly highlights her achievements in challenging traditional gender roles and biases within her family.
03:55 💰 Her late-night show, "A Little Late with Lilly Singh," faced budget constraints and time slot challenges.
05:33 📺 Lilly believes her unique identity (being brown, a woman, and bisexual) should have garnered her more support and recognition.
06:43 🙏 She argues against the idea of being grateful for opportunities, suggesting it's not a form of currency.
07:24 🎙️ The real issue, according to the speaker, is that her show was not well-received and faced challenges similar to others in her time slot.
08:50 🤣 Lilly's content on UA-cam used to be funny and honest but shifted to lecturing her audience on polarizing topics.
10:51 🧐 She rejects the ideas of humility and gratitude, hindering her ability to self-reflect and improve her content.

The shows on "Prime Time" get the most money, since that is where the big ADs get placed, you can't expect a 1:30AM time slot to have the same budge as the 8PM slot, there are simply not enough eyes to warrant charging ads the same. You look at how a lot of the most famous people in media started, so many of em had to deal with unconventional setups and it sparked their creativity, the cheap props adding charm to the sketches. If she was such a great talent she should of relished having fewer writers, less people to insert their ideas into the script, allowing her to shine more and she would have more free reign, too many chefs and all that. But no instead because they didn't give a novice the same set up as Kimmel then clearly sexist and racist, glad she disapeared into simply being a producer at disney now, she can burn them to the ground along side her carrer.

It's common in India to welcome family members in this way, especially those you haven't met in person before or haven't seen in a long time, and probably had nothing to do with her self-perceived importance. Naturally they made a big deal about her fame; India worships the cult of celebrity, just like most other countries.

      @@leewright1nah that happened in 2016.
Before 2016 she was actually hilarious and just a youtuber without the extra woke bs.
The woke signs actually started in 2016 where she also got more involved with celebs aka hollywood, hollywood all preaching the woke bs in their meetings where Lilly I guess was invited into.
So at some point I had to warn Lilly in 2016 on her Twitter not to go the woke road after she posted a tweet " The force is female", yes the first heavy signs of her going the hardcore woke rounds, smh, and after our back and forward on Twitter where she really thought going the route of woke and saying things like "the force is female" (her trying to get woke messages across to the rest of the world lol) would work, smh, I immidiately told her the world doesn't work like that and I said to her goodluck, where her ego responded back to me on Twitter with, and I remember this well: "...I don't need good luck, I am successfull, I will have it my way like I always have".
      Welp.
      Fast forward to 2023.
Her youtube views has dried up, it's a wrap, her twitter engagement is dried up, it's a wrap and all her other social media has dried up as well, only her tiktok is only active still a bit because the audience see the occasionally bo0bs/cleavage, and every woman gets engagement with bo0bs/cleavage on there so nothing special here.
      Bottomline:
It's funny how she truly was that independent woman before the woke stuff and most people liked her and now basically she is mostly hated or the fans she used to have by a boatload grown up and moved on (cause they ain't here for her woke crap either)and now Lilly is no longer independent because she is basically working a job in showbizz as a judge in Canada got talent or last time I checked.
      Welp Lilly.
Don't say I didn't warned your @ ss not to go the woke route in 2016 but offcourse you didn't listen so you now made your bed and you get to lay there.
      The End.

Might be a controversial take. But I remember Lily being a 27 yo virgin because she chose so. It was allgined with her values. I think she sold out claiming to be bi and literally dishing on everything she stood for before. She built a new persona according to what she perceived Hollywood to promote. That's the definition of selling your soul. Emptying yourself and forgetting your morality for the sake of worldly success. I get her being frustrated for not being rewarded after giving up SO MUCH. Thing is, there was nothing authentic about her anymore.
I remember a line from her book, that is not about being the best but putting yourself into the right circumstances to succeed. She claims there that perception is more important and value is not inherent but something built. With that mentality I can see why she sold out and why she blames everyone else now instead of herself. She doesn't seem to believe in talent, being genuine and authentic growth or even producing something of quality but chasing a higher high. That seems to be the only goal. Which is very common in views obsessed you tubers.

it's that she's telling the same jokes centered around millennial era issues that were only relevant to address in the 2000s-2015. we have progressed and moved on so much since then and so now it's like okay anddddd??? like "my parents didn't give me the sēx talk (even more of an issue for me because in my South Asian culture you can't even talk about it)" is literally like we're just so past that and parenting is evolving and becoming more conscious with my generation becoming parents now and not being like our parents. like i'm a millennial and i watched her when i was in high school when she had just gotten popular, i was like 15-17, AND i'm a South Asian woman of color (lol) like her too. so when people in my community found her, especially brown girls, we were so excited to find relatable content, hearing someone speaking about it. to find representation and she was like the only woman doing it along with some other brown guys. it was a HUGE deal to us back then because society wasn't the way it is today. and social media was new, youtube was only like 7 years old and things weren't as advanced or vast as they are now. so the experiences and consequent comedy of millennials peaked is really what it is. but the "brown parents/brown girls" videos will ALWAYS be relatable and iconic.
and i think lilly is someone who can stay relevant, she's social, she's in touch, it's just that it seems she is not adapting and it's not enough to just get on board with new lingo. it's just weird. and at some point, you have to accept that while you're still young, you're no longer a part of the youth, which hit me last year when i was 27. she's trying to cater to both the youth and my generation, but we've moved forward and evolved and the youth is on such another level of advanced that what we found relatable and major is literally nothing to them lol.
too bad because i was rooting for her too and expected better from her, i was proud that she was making it as a woman of color because that's always a win for our community and she did make history. yeah, i love that she's proud of herself with all she's been representing and achieving with what comprises her identity, it makes it even better. sure maybe others were writing her jokes, but she could have been like this is sh!t and refused to say them. but honestly, it sounded like her humor and her personal words. and i also always found her to be very toxic when it comes to how much she always pushed the whole "alpha female hustle" culture that unenlightened millennials got on board with and accepted. like no, being an empowered, independent woman doesn't mean that you have to push the "compete with/match men in a man's capitalist patriarchal world." a true feminist is a decolonial intersectional feminist who isn't still stuck in the "we wanna work too" times. dismantling the oppressive colonial, capitalist, patriarchal system is the goal. i sure am not here to be like men or a masculine, i should be able to navigate life in my feminine element and not have to abandon and demonize it to exhaust my masculine energy because it's demanded of me for the capitalist machine. lilly was like look at me im such a tomboy and can be sooo masculine too like a masc lesbian. bro wake up lilly tf, you're so intelligent. and s3xual jokes are just distasteful to most people, including to myself. not even funny, just cringe.
she also has supported and gassed up very problematic celebs and still continues to do so.

I liked how positive she was. Sharing Indian music and food and little cultural tidbits with westerners, without being mean-spirited. Most of all, she was humble.
Then when she "MADE IT" on American TV, its like she forgot where she came from, began talking like white people, being mean spirited, hateful and boastful and proud about shit that didn't matter. All the things she claimed white people are, and all the things Indians are not. She did not represent anyone anymore. Certainly not me or my friends.
