I get it lol. But to be fair, her point is factual. Oprah was daytime television. Her statement has always been first woman of color on late night. She’s not a bad person and there are some really amazing things she’s done outside of entertainment. Like funding and promoting the building of schools and water sources in underprivileged countries. If she just leaned into that, instead of dated “comedy,” i don’t think the internet would have any problem with her

The fact that she made a joke saying “mom said I could sleep over” on her 1am late night tv show proves to me that she acts like a children’s entertainer. What adult genuinely laughs at a joke like that?
I never understood why anyone ever found her funny. And she's painfully unfunny in her own late night show.
On top of that she tries to pretend that women like Oprah, Tyra Banks, Queen Latifah and others don't exist so that she can pretend to be the first woman of color with her own show.

I think people perceiving her as “funny” stemmed from a bygone era of UA-cam. I remember 13/14 year old me back in 2013/14 finding her videos amusing. Of course now I’m a sophomore in college and I find it physically hard to sit through her “skits” so the aging audience probably has something to do with it

The thing that bothers me the most about her "comedy" is that she reacts to her own jokes like an absolute melon.
I don't discredit her work ethic, she clearly puts in a very large amount of effort into her career and I respect her for that. She's doing something that 99% of us could never do, she just does it poorly, lol.

Hey Jamie OC might not have been aware of her getting a late night show or it's critics in the first place and before this it was definitely rare or at least not popularized to criticize her you had some videos here and there but it mostly stayed in comment sections which are cesspools of autism most the time now a lot of it is even her own previous fans.

She’s one of those youtubers that didn’t grow with their audience. She was funny when I was like... 10.
I know, right? She was fun when I found her as a young teen... Nowadays she just isn't funny at all anymore.
Honestly. I have been watching Jenna Marbles since I was quite young, and I still watch her to this day because I still think she is funny. She actually grew and changed as her audience grew and changed. If I watched a Jenna Marbles video from like 10 years ago, I would probably not find it funny anymore. Lilly Singh did not grow or change, and now she's seeing the repercussions of that.

To me I think that's a "tactic" she's picked up from bigger, actually funny comedians. Because sometimes it's that moment when a comic inadvertently ends up chuckling at themselves after delivering a particularly "bad" joke, seemingly as though they're trying to hold it in, that sells a joke (for me anyway, I'm really thinking of Kurtis Conner right now and how he'll deliver an absolutely horrendous pun and then laugh at himself, and that ends up being what makes me laugh too). But unfortunately for her, her "jokes" aren't consciously or deliberately bad before the held-in chuckle, so the entire thing falls flat.
It's a side effect of a UA-cam career. Working with other comics in sketch or improv helps you realize what's funny and what isn't, and it helps you question yourself to see if you're actually funny. She doesn't do that, so she doesn't have that sort of quality control real comics have.

Conan can also be very self deprecating, Lilly seems to have this attitude that she is the new wave of comedy and she’s amazing because of her accomplishments and paving the way. Just because you are in this position and you deliver your “jokes” confidently or are on the right side of politics; doesn’t make people want to laugh. Stating the obvious isn’t funny.
The greatest example why a UA-cam star that entertains children doesn't translate to late night television. Children are all in bed and not available to laugh at your terrible comedy.
Her show just seems like: "I'm a brown woman with a show and white people are bad" and she acts like she's the first and only woman of color to ever be seen on TV or to have a show basically ignoring all other women and men of color who blazed a path for many more to follow, including herself. While also creating racism that isn't there, being oddly aggressive towards anyone watching, as if assuming everyone is racist and thinks it's CRAZY she's on TV. It's great to have people of color on TV and diversity and it's okay to make jokes about a race but when your whole show is "I'm a brown woman, crazy right!? Also white people are bad" it's just not good. She's not funny anyway

*Yes!* That is *exactly* what bugs me about her. I haven't seen a lot of her show, but what I have was barely less funny, content-wise, than what little other non-Craig Ferguson late night I've seen. It's all very middle of the road and dull, to me. And I'd be willing to put a lot of stuff down to her being new at it and give her another shot later. But that delivery. Her biggest hit to her career was her decision to keep the same humor and targeted audience. She kept using the same humor but then tried to transition her career into like a "boss" mode, I noticed this a lot when her book came out which was cringy and clearly made for young teens but it was formatted like an actual advice/self-help book.
