    Interesting. Necessity is the mother of invention.

    Always enjoy Lenny the "Frankenstein" as he keeps getting operated on until he comes to LIFE! "A" for effort on the A/C but I don't think that is going to be the solution, but I am along for the ride and look forward to whatever happens next.

    Nice video.
    But I believe most of the AC needs to be on the outside, that way it blows the hot air out and sucks in the fresh air and dispels the water.
    Otherwise your AC will blow both hot and cold air inside the cabin creating a lot of moisture and canceling itself out.

    Curios why you are not going with the mini split setup that’s most people seem to do? It’s 20+ seer and I think you could fit the outdoor portion in your engine bay.

      @CozyLivingMachine  Місяць тому +3

      That bay just gets too hot and dirty and I'm afraid it would limit more necessary airflow to our engine being in the rear. Running the cables would also be a pain, though not impossible. And we'd need to do that twice, being that the air doesn't make its way to the front, so we wanted to try this first!

    I figure you will add something to isolate the exterior and interior parts of the A/C for it work properly.

      @CozyLivingMachine  Місяць тому

      Absolutely. Still more foam to be added. I'm hoping we won't need to add more isolation for the side vents, but will if it needs it. They seem to cool well and only blow hot air out the rear radiator, so fingers crossed I'm thinking of that correctly!

      Yep the side vents should be on the outside. Just have to think what’s inside and outside if mounted normal in a window.

    Surprised you didn't get one that also heats.

    you guys would probably be better off with a 12V/24VDC mini-split, no?

    • @CozyLivingMachine
      @CozyLivingMachine  Місяць тому +1

      Unfortunately no, we have a 36V system and we're upgrading to 48V soon enough, though I've never seen a 12V mini split because of the higher amperage they'd require... Not that they don't exist!

      @@CozyLivingMachine YT will eat my comment if I try to post a link to it for you, but on Amazon if you search either "12V mini split" or "24V mini split" you'll see a fair number of results. you could probably use 48V to 24V or 12V step-downs (these are cheap, I use them on my boat) in strategic places to run them, with the added benefit of not having to basically invert off your batteries to 120VAC (power loss), and then rectify off that to run the DC components of an air conditioner unit (another power loss). when you're trying to run everything off of solar it's a huge benefit! I will be interested to see how much power you end up consuming running two window units, though -- for all I know the technology has improved enough that it might be a wash.
