Miss Barbara is a very, very lucky lady. This man has brains and heart.
I can't believe they've been together this long, but in a way I can. Meeting late in life (as they did), the odds are with them, and it usually works out.
James is a multimillion in his own right. He also appears to be a masculine man with pride.

It's a very personal issue and nobody's business but those involved. I imagine that it was the journalist who brought it up. If I were James Brolin I would have politely but firmly told her that it was none of her business and move on to discuss his career, his latest work, etc....
But he didn't because he's a stand-up guy and a patient guy.
Absolutely agree with Brolin. I wish I'd known before I got married. My wife had no money, and I had saved quite a lot, though far from any Hollywood amounts. She opened up credit cards by forging my signature, withdrew funds from our now-joint accounts. And I trusted her completely. I'm happy to say the judge threw the book at her. Prenups all the way. If you trust someone so thorough, you're not in love; you're an asshole.

I don't think there's anything terribly wrong with having separate accounts for whatever reasons, however, I don't believe in just separate bank accounts. A joint venture is nice too ! ♡♡
