    I changed out my flywheel as well, made all the difference in peddling at higher speeds. In my honest opinion, I think this is the gearing that lectric should have came with since the bike can go 28 when set to a class 3.

      They do this to appease the EU markets I think. There's a video of one guy putting a 1600w motor into an Engwe bike (same design) along with the 11 sprocket final gear. The 11 is essential past 20mph.

    Great video! I have a XP1.0 that I have put a little over 2000 miles to commute to my job year round. As I am limited to Class 2 in Canada, the clown pedalling effect is not too bad but I still have been considering this upgrade just to get a bit more resistance at higher speeds. I have also watched many posts on how to do this and IMO yours is the best! Well explained, well filmed, and nicely paced. Thanks.

    This is how you can calculate what combination of wheel size, freewheel/ cog teeth, and pedalling cadence is right for you. You just need to do some math.
    First, measure the diameter of your wheel. Example 50.8 cm.
    Next, find the circumference of the wheel. 3.14 (which is pie) x 50.8 cm = 159.5 cm.
    Then, count the number of teeth on your largest front chainring (you might only have 1). Example 52 teeth. Then count the number on the smallest rear cog. Example 12 teeth. Then calculate the gear ratio by dividing the front by the rear. Example 52 ÷ 12 = 4.3. This means every time your pedal cranks make one revolution, the rear wheel will turn 4.3 times.
    Next, calculate how far that one pedal revolution (4.3 turns of the rear wheel) will take you. Example 4.3 x 159.5 cm = 691.2 cm
    Next you need to know how fast you like to pedal to be comfortable. This is called your preferred pedalling cadence. Ride your bike and spin your legs at a rate that you find comfortable. Next, using a timer on your phone, count how many times you pedal in 10 seconds. Multiply that number by 6. This is your preferred pedalling RPM. Example 11.5 x 6 = 69 RPM.
    Take this RPM figure and multiply it by the figure you got for the distance the wheel travels with one pedal revolution. Example 691.2 cm x 69 RPM = 47,692.8 cm.
    Multiply this by 60 to get cm per hour. 47,692.8 x 60= 2,861,568 cm/hr.
    Then just convert to kph or mph. 28.6 kph or 17.7 mph.
    This is how you can calculate what combination of wheel size, freewheel/ cog teeth and pedalling cadence is right for you. Hope this helps.

    Just an FYI, the thing you called a safety bracket on your rear axle, is actually your torque arms, they prevent the axle from twisting inside the frame mount, during acceleration, without them, your bike would destroy itself in just a few miles, so your torque arms are very important.

    Another great video nice job! I changed my freewheel out as well with the 11-34 to try and get my speed up to over 30 mph, and what I've discovered is, is that the 11 tooth does bring my cadence down, the motor seems to work against me at over 28 mph. That said, I was disappointed not achieving my desired result, however as you point out the big benefit with this swap pays off in the reduced current draw to get greater distances on a battery cycle. If you have steep hills in your area you might consider going with the 11-34, because the 34 makes a big difference on the low end.
    Just a side note, and don't quote me on this, but the safety washers you mentioned, might be called torque arms, and I think there primary function is to help keep the axle from spinning in the frame under heavy torque situations.
    PS you look like the pounds are falling off man, happy cycling...

      @@tai.randomthings Great demonstration on changing the flywheel. @donald. If your P08 is at 45 it is normal that anything above it will cause some resistance, i suggest 100 for unlimited. i use 52V on mine and on flat i got it up to 33, 34 mph , but you can not hold it unless your are an Olympian, but it will hold 29, 30 Mph on full charge as your voltage steps below 50V it will be harder to get these speeds. Example for P08 set it 40 and you'll see the resistance coming in at above 24.85 Mph. @Random Things Back to you buddy on the 52v20Ah using theses settings i'll get avg of 43 miles, so you are spot on. The motor seems to work against you at 28 mph because it no longer provides any thrust at 28 mph. That is no load max rpm. As you approach 28mph the motor hands all power thrust responsibilities to the human pedaler.

    • @tedwalker1370
      @tedwalker1370 2 роки тому +3

      The bike is limited to 28 mph so the motor cuts out at 28 mph. to push it to 30 mph you would be the power without the motor. It would get you to 28 then you would have to push or pedal it on up to 30 mph.

    The disadvantage is that a 11 x 32 (28) is harder to find plus they cost more money than a 14 x tooth freewheel. I find I have to replace the freewheel every bike season as the 11 tooth gear wears out faster than a 14 tooth gear. When I find a good price for a 11 tooth freewheel I normally buy two at a time. • @tai.randomthings

      The Lectric (and most bikes in this category) have a "freewheel", where all 7 cogs are part of one mechanism. Some high end road and mountain bikes have "cassette" vs a "freewheel". Cassettes allow you to change individual cogs but not freewheels.
      In this case, it is the smallest cog that affects the "ghost pedeling". The OEM cog (7th gear) has 14 teeth. The one I changed to in this video has 11 teeth, which allows you to keep on cranking to help the motor at the highest speed settings. I hope this is what you are asking about. If not, let me know and we can dive into it more. Safe riding.

      if you are not riding faster than 20 mph, the stock gear ratio should be sufficient. But if you feel like even at the speed that you are riding, you are "ghost" pedalling, then changing the free wheel will help. Ghost pedalling is when you pedal but don't feel any resistance, kind of like when you spin the crank backwards and don't feel any resistance. I hope that makes sense.

      Hi, I am assuming you have the XP 2.0 and you have unlocked the bike so that it is a Class 3 and the program lets you go beyond 20 mph. Having said that, I think you have two separate issues.
      1. Are you trying to go faster than 20 mph on throttle only? If so, Lectric programs the bike so that it will NOT go faster than 20 mph on throttle only, even if it's unlocked. You have to engage the motor by pedaling. Good thing is you don't have to pedal hard, you just need to rotate the cranks and the sensor will pick it up.
      2. If you cannot go beyond 5th gear, either your derailleur needs adjusting or your derailleur protector bracket is bent and hitting you derailleur and preventing you from shifting into your smaller gears. If you look at your derailleur and it is making contact with the protector bracket, just pull the bracket outward until it won't obstruct the derailleur. It still so you may need a pair of pliers to help but definately doable. If it's just adjusting your derailleur, below is a link on me adjusting the derailleur. It's a long video for the XPremium but the adjustment is the same for the XP. Go to the 28 minute mark to get to the section on derailleur adjustment.

    How this workout for you. I noticed on some reviews of this on Amazon. The modification made noise the metal was wobbly. Cleaning the metal wasn't as strong as the original.
    What are your thoughts. Also I don't know if it matters if you're a big guy but I way over 300 lb The bike can handle 330
    I wonder if that will affect and show the weakness of the medal because of my size.
    That hub is so inexpensive but the Shimano version is a lot more expensive I wonder if it's just better made..

    • @tai.randomthings
      @tai.randomthings  2 роки тому +3

      I use it for my Lectric before it was stolen and my Jupiter Defiant. I love it. I'm a 220 pounder and I don't think it makes a difference for a rear hub motor. The rear hub drives puts stress on the spokes so you risk snapping spokes vs the freewheel. So I didn't experience any excessive wear and tear on the freewheel and it took away the ghost pedaling.
      HOWEVER, I also have a mid drive with this freewheel and it broke one of the gear tooth. Mid drives put a lot of strain on the gears as all the power is in the chain itself. In fact, I am about to wear out my second one. Granted, I've put almost 800 miles on it so maybe I should just consider it "consumable" given the cheap price.
      Also, when I broke the gear, the company sent me a new freewheel right away. Good customer service.

      Yes, that's my next project is to add a dual battery. There are definitely pros and cons to both. I think if you have both (smaller freewheel and a dual battery setup), you're pretty set for everything.

    Hi. Was doing real well attempting to remove the back wheel on my ST 2.0 to change the freewheel. Carefully cut the zip ties, took lots of pictures too. HOWEVER, I could not even slightly unscrew either axle nuts. It's as if they're welded on. Any suggestions?

    • @tai.randomthings
      @tai.randomthings  2 роки тому +1

      Shoots...are you talking about the nuts that lock the wheel to the frame? Have you tried using some liquid wrench or WD40 and let it sit for a bit? One of them was really tight so I had to put my whole body into it. If you have a good 6 point wrench, then I would try to use a cheater bar to get more leverage. Essentially, slip a piece of galvanized pipe over the wrench handle and that gives you more leverage. Just keep an eye on the nut and that you are not slipping or rounding it out.

    Bike dude, here. Great tutorial! I just bought 2 Lectric XP 2.0 Long Rangers and am doing this mod, as well.
    A little FYI for the masses that watch. ALWAYS put grease on the freewheel threads when putting the new one, or even old one back on. You'll thank yourself well down the road after years of use. Buy a PARK TOOL FR 1.3 freewheel spline tool. A couple bucks more but a lifetime of service. It's why you see nothing but Park Tool blue in bike shop repair facilities....or in my shop!
    One more thing I have done on both my XP LR's is put a dab of Dielectric grease on the connectors for the motor and both lights making those connections hydrophobic, corrosion proof, and just a tad bit easier to get them to break apart when you need to disassemble. Some of mine were so incredibly tight that it was tempting to grab the cable cord itself and pull like hell...which is the worst thing to do! Now, it takes effort but they do come apart much easier.
