Tarja was and is amazing! She's had a very successful solo career since parting ways with Nightwish making excellent music. She makes an album, I buy it. Love her.
Great reaction! :) Tarja is such a great vocalist and I know some people say "she can only do opera" but that's not true. She began very classically (mind you she was 19 when Tuomas, she and Emppu founded the band and she was in the middle of her training) but over time she adapted more and more to contemporary music as well, especially in her solo stuff nowadays. The fact that she still brings the classical elements is what we love and what makes her unique! 🌷
Try Slaying the Dreamer to see her tackle a heavier song with a less "operatic" voice :) Marko is also featured on that one and his part is insane 👏🏽 super intense

The mesmerizing and unique Tarja! Her era is worth reacting to otherwise you rob yourself of rock history. I suggest Ever Dream from the same concert as well as Creek Mary's Blood with the guest artist John Two Hawks.
This is so bittersweet. Knowing what happens. This is the what got me hooked on Nightwish. Then to know after this performance. Is when Tarja got the open letter.
This performance is from 2005 in Helsinki (End of an Era DVD) same show as the High Hopes video you watched. Tarja's last Nightwish show.
Tuomas did the arrangement on this. Andrew Lloyd Weber loved this version, calling it his favorite or one of his favorite versions.
So 'Scmiegel' wants more Tarja. LOL. Stay with this show and try Wishmaster, The Siren, NEMO, Planet Hell, or the show closer Wish I Had an Angel.

Wait till you see "The pharaoh sails to orion" live from "wishes to eternity" dvd from 2000, they are so young and it is amazing, heavy but very musical. Half the songs they still do every show are from the 1st 5 albums. Tarja's voice is stronger then floors with deep tones, floor has light tones, both are great and annette is yet another interesting original voice. NW first album was released in 1997, phantom is on century child 2002

I just love Tarja’s voice. After this concert Tarja was fired from Nightwish.
This concert was in 2005. On that stage they handed Tarja (Taryah) that infamous letter. Tarja uses her classical training a lot more than Floor does, that is one of the things that separates them two.

I love Tarja so much! Her voice is beautiful. Very happy to see you've come to her time with the band. The Siren, Slaying the Dreamer, Deep Silent Complete, Wishmaster or something Christmas-y, Walking in the Air, are all Tarja essentials in the cataloge. 🙂 and more, of course! They made 5 albums together after all. Also fun fact: Tuomas's mom was her piano teacher when they were kids.

Floor is so phenomenal that Tarja surprises every time! It's so much fun🤣🤘. Nightwish has been amazing since the beginning, Tarja's voice and singing style are completely unique and inimitable🦄 How does it work harder? Wishmaster, yes please!
Nightwish was founded in 1996 and this was 2005 in Helsinki. One of their most amazing concert ever. Check out Sleeping Sun from this concert... Tuomas idea of Nightwish was to be an acoustic band, but when he heard Tarjas voice he decided to add more volume and music around her operatic voice, and that's how it became a symphonic metal band. This bands history is quite something, due to many circumstances this was to be her last show. She really is an amazing singer with such a beautiful voice.

Truly the Original Metal Queen. Tarja is still rocking today. This old school NightWish band is right up there with the best ever. Floor is currently Queen but this band is not the same without Marko on bass and singing and Jukka smashing the drums with style and emotion.

I was just about the write same thing and this is so true! I wish Annette wouldn’t have forbidden all her performance, now there is only amateur videos of her and they are terrible.
@@Lardos Actually, I happen to own all Nightwish albums/DVDs/BRs ever released. And while I love all, Imaginaerum is still my most listened to album. I was actually more pissed when Anette left than when Tarja had to leave. My thought was: "man, not again! That looks really bad!" But having been a Floor fan since After Forever, Floor coming on board was a dream come true.
I will never understand this back and fourth on who is the better singer. As Floor put it in one of her Master Classes: it is not a competition! It is there to be enjoyed, and all three have been and still continue to be marvelous vocalists - with Nightwish and without.
Yeah. This band had and still has so many great singers it almost isn't fair... and here's your first word to learn in Finnish. After the song Tarja says "Kiitos". It means "thank you".

These dark times needs more Tarja! Absolutely great Tarja songs: Walking in the air, Wishmaster, Sleeeping sun, Nemo official video, Bless the child and many more. Also Tarja is very good studio worker, her voice is perfect in officials.
Marko is absolutely the best Phantom. He adds a level of menace and sadist overtone that the typical musical oriented singers lack. And of course, this fits Tarja perfectly. One thing to note, Jukka was sick during this concert, suffering from extreme migraines which is why you can see him hunched over the drums, holding his head. Amazing that he could perform at the awesome level he did. I love that soft, classical opening then...WHAM...into metal. This was the 2005 End of an Era concert, and Tarja's last appearance with Nightwish. Like Wacken 2013, there are no bad songs in this concert. You might want to give a listen to High Hopes, their tribute to Pink Floyd, from this concert. Thankjs for letting us come on the journey, stay safe, and keep rocking.

@Marko L1977 No, it was commented on at the time. In fact, during High Hopes you can see Emppu jump down from the band riser. He was checking to see if Jukka was OK. Also, in all the videos I have seen, Jukka never does that. He normally is hunched over, moving his arms to the clicktrack/beat, ready to play.

Marco Hietala, you know, he used to be a lead singer in a band called Tarot before he joined Nightwish. He got that lead vocalist thing going for him as well. This was from the "End of an Era" concert in 2005 and Tarja was sick when they did this show in Helsinki Finland. And they proceeded to fire her after this epic performance... And did so very publicly. But that is another story. Things went all the Poet and the Pendulum after that. Tarja is the reason we have symphonic metal. Tuomas and Emppu were looking for a singer and they knew Tarja from their school days and one thing led to another and we have symphonic metal. It is quite an interesting story, but I'm sure someone has already told you guys all this...

@@SuperMoofie in general. She was hired to Nightwish without Tuomas and Emppu knowing she had that sort of power in her voice. They were just looking for someone to sing and knew Tarja, because they went to school together. The original plan was to make some "camp fire songs" and it was more of a passion project for Tuomas and Emppu. They didn't plan on conquering the world with something nobody had done before... One thing led to another and now we have a whole "new" metal subgenre in Symphonic Metal. And yes, there were other metal bands that had female lead singers, but they weren't ones with Opera singing credentials. Nightwish sort of stumbled into this thing that was not there before.
One of the reasons why they eventually fired Tarja was the reason that she had other things going on besides the Nightwish thing. She was doing opera gigs and it made scheduling a bit of a nightmare. Nightwish guys probably wanted to do more, but couldn't as their lead singer was off doing other things. And this is also why she couldn't be at all the band activities and had a different travel schedule from the band too. And Tarja's husband Marcelo was basically pushing her to do more and this is where part of the friction came from too. It was a whole big mess and there were multiple moving parts and it was becoming more and more impossible and it reached boiling point where the rest of Nightwish felt jilted by Tarja and Tuomas had to let go of his muse for the music they were doing. And I would also say that on more than one way he was also in love with her, but that is something we will never truly know...
So yes, we wouldn't have symphonic metal if Tuomas and Emppu didn't know Tarja and happen to run into this thing by mistake.

In the great debate between Floor and Tarja I think two things ...1. both are great just different, and 2. Marco is also a good answer...he blended with 3 NW singers flawlessly

Try the song "Nemo" either the live version from this show, or the official video. That was there all time most successful single. It was even played in rotation on MTV Europe and on headbangers ball in the USA for about 2 years or more.
The video is one of the most beautiful I`ve seen.
Tarja and Floor both are excellent. Different personalities and styles but that is how it should be. It would be really boring if every singer was the same. Tarja was perfect for the first era of Nightwish, she deserves huge praise for everything she did, and Floor is perfect for the third era of Nightwish.
Marko has said it best: "When you look at the years, where we've come from, the biggest thing about Nightwish was obviously Tuomas' songs and lyrics - that's why the people stayed. No matter who was the vocalist or anything, they stayed because of the quality of the songs and that's why we have success."

This was in 2005, just minutes before Tarja’s dismissal. Andrew Lloyd Weber gets the credit for the music and lyrics on this one. Tuomas and Marko gave it a little heavier sound.
Tarja is amazing, Floor is amazing..... Anette is amazing in the studio.
Other song that Tarja really nails: Dead Boy's Poem, Everdream, Walking in the Air, Sleeping Sun. These songs were all written specifically with Tarja's voice in mind. Floor does an incredible job with these songs, but when Tarja sings them, it just shows the song is custom written to get from Tarja all she has to give.

Tarja is one of my favorite singers. maybe you could hear something more recent from her because she is much more versatile. sadly many people stay in this era of Tarja and don't know how wonderful she is currently.

As several people have already mentioned , there are multiple great songs from this show - Wishmaster, Planet Hell, Slaying the Dreamer, and their cover of Pink Floyd's 'High Hopes,' where Marko's voice is showcased even more than it is in this song. And yes, the music scene in the US sucks, and has been seriously stifled by the 'industry.' I'm glad to have found your channel - from one southerner to y'all!

I was the same way when I discovered them, most music that comes out in America now in days is pretty shallow. I mean you can still find a few pearls and entertainment, but Nightwish a band that performs consistently so well and sells out venues around the world, unheard of by me in the United States. It really sparked something in me that was dead quite a while.
the musical Phantom of the Opera is from the early 80th by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber ;) premiered in London, and is still running there, sadly not in the original version anymore. Same on Broadway

Finally! 🥰👍Now you see why we have been bugging you guys to watch this! Floor is fantastic, but now you have something to compare her with. Both are fantastic but Tarja was full trained opera and floor has some opera study with much more classical training.
The first group of NW fans love it bur I could not stand Tarjas voice and bad timing. She is late all thw time and can't sync with Marko.
Floor can do the same pitch and have no dead range in the middle where Tarja must do a duck voice.
After all, this song is an operett, not opera.
@@birrextio6544 Agree. There are some songs that suit her haunting voice and I like those, but I just can't go on the wide vibrato, and slightly off-key at times. Marko is outstanding as always :)

Marco is saying “Sing my Angel” not “scream”.
NW was originally a folk band. Tarja’s voice was too big for that, so Toumas decided to switch to metal. Five of their nine albums were recorded with her. She’s a huge part of NW history.
