4:47 is my favorite epileptic seizure in all of music.
The black keyboardist is Bernie Worrell, the genius behind the sound of Parliament Funkadelic and George Clinton...
Same as it ever was ❤
When he raises up from his limbo pose and starts singing, "Time isn't holding us, time isn't after us!" The cinematography showing the backup singers, also rising from a limbo position, is majestic and heart-fluttering! I don't know why but it levels me.
7:30 Best shot in any concert movie I've ever seen. Saw this in the theatre when it came out. Blew my mind.
Absolutely incredible
That's breaking all the stereotypes to pieces!!!!
David Byrne is on another level...🔥
Another good line you might like is
I'm not lost but I don't know where I am - The Lady don't mind ,Talking Heads
I’ll never forget the first time I watched this concert on a dusty old VCR - it was absolute magic! I got you covered with more Talking Heads on my next list 👍🏻
In America Stop Making Sense is playing for its 40th anniversary. Finally bought tickets to take my husband tomorrow night. So lucky that this band was a part of the soundtrack of my early teen years. I can see the preacher aspect in this performance. For Little Creatures (1985 album) they used folk artist the Reverend Howard Finster. His covers also include REM. At the time I hated living in the bible belt (Ohio born and raised) - but his art wasn't a total turnoff - it kind of occupied a space between appealing and uncomfortable which is sometimes a good place to be. In the late 80s the Toledo Museum of Art had an exhibition of his work including the album artwork for Talking Heads and REM, but he also painted on television sets, chairs, etc. It never occured to me when seeing Once In A Lifetime as a kid on MTV that there is a evangelical preacher aspect to his delivery in this song. Another Talking Heads album is even called Speaking In Tongues - so I guess all of this isn't coincidental. GREAT REACTION. Love your channel.
Great shout - the channel is lacking some REM 👏🏻

Sounds like you don’t know Byrne’s brilliant album collaboration with Brian Eno “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts” where they use others’ recorded voices as the vocals on songs, including at least one preacher. It’s great you’ll love it.
Amazing song, amazing performance
I still have my original “Stop Making Sense” promo poster when I worked in the record shop for its release. It’s framed and in pride of place. They were one of my go to bands when we each took turns to play our own music during a stock take in the shop. It was a great opportunity to expand your musical taste hearing albums from others choices. Happy times
The concert movie Stop Making Sense shows the progression of Talking Heads in both people and the music itself... By the time they get to the Remain In Light record, the stage is full and so is the music...
I have been using that line for 40 years! There is water at the bottom of the ocean! Lol.
Being re released in Imax
Cant wait
I first saw this in cinema Amsterdam 85
( that was a trip )
They were art school kids who started a band 🔥 They have remastered this show and it’s coming to theaters
David Byrne was was trying to sound like a preacher. His vocals were inspired by preachers delivering sermons, with lyrics addressing existential crisis and the unconscious.
The sound is awesome!
Likely from a movie soundtrack.
There’s a video on UA-cam of the entire Heads concert on the tour a couple years before Stop Making Sense - it’s excellent, and cool for band history: this is the Remain in Light tour, the album was a revolutionary smash. Their first tour having morphed from minimalism to many guest musicians and fusing musical genres:
“HEADS ROME 1980”
Like Bryan Ferry/
Roxy Music, and
Elvis Costello, Talking Heads are in the rare genre of "Art Rock".
Sophisticated music.
"kind of listening to it, it does make sense" -- stop making sense, rory!! 😅
btw my favorite lyric is time is a pony ride 😂
I said on your first reaction that you'd know this track. It's one of those that has always been there lurking in musical landscape and pops up quite a lot in small snippets.
Have a look at the iconic music video for it, you might have even seen some of that too.
I love this song! I used to sing this song all the time when i was at work and my co-workers used to joined in. Love the beat and the awesome melody and David Bryne is out of this world!! Awesome reaction Rory SWEEET!! I Love your reaction to Talking Heads!! Thank You Luke for these awesome requests!! 😊🩷🔥🤟✌️
Wow!! I'd forgotten all about this. Always loved it. So glad to be reminded - thank you Rory🔥❤️🐾
Talking Heads was just an amazing band. I really recommend the movie True Stories, directed by David Byrne. It is a hard movie to describe, but the story revolves around Byrne visiting a small Texas town during their sesquicentennial celebration. They put on a talent show, and the actors sang all the songs. The Talking Heads album True Stories was the band's version of the music from the movie.
Was waiting for you to get to this one, knew you would love it!!
By the way he gesticulates on stage, doesn't he remind you of Gord Downie (Tragically Hip),.. great frontmen!
remastered version coming out soon, I think? This song is based on sermons by charismatic preachers...
I lluv him❤ a true artist!😂
Watch the music video. David's dancing is top notch. Southern preachers on the radio while they were on tour inspired this
Saw this at the movies when it came out . Midnight feature. It was awesome!!
You really need to see Kermit cover this. So funny.
il più grande film concerto
Gotta watch the original mtv video. Amazing song!
I'm sure a tv show used it
Hasn't it just come out in 4K ?
Listen to their 'Fear of music' album. Pukka!
He is great, isn't he...
how do I work this?
