Fun fact! Historically, before the clan plaids were formally established in Scotland in the 19th century, they weren't symmetrical. We're talking like 16th-17th century at the latest. Beautiful work! :D
The jacket was absolutely beautiful! So glad to see people cutting and using their woven fabrics as that was the whole reason i got into weaving in the first place. Cant wait to see more projects!
Thank you so much!! The pattern was so sparse, I was basically making it up as I went along 🤣 Usually the Saori patterns have much more detailed images so they're not as challenging, but of course I had to pick the the one with just one diagram!
I'm watching this because I'm making two woven plaid dresses for my upcoming assignment at school:) love your channel you look so cute in this little sweater!! good job.
I applaud you in having the courage to cut your weaving! Thank you for this uplifting and very helpful video, I love your creativity! Lovely jacket and super cute Frankie :)
You are so very patient with Frankie. I have five cats so I can’t even imagine letting them have free play while I try to cut out pattern pieces. They divide and conquer when there are more than two. Lovely jacket.
you just seem so kind 🥺 i absolutely love the look and the weave of the fabric and the pattern of the sweater! absolutely beautiful. you have such a talent!
OH my goodness, you are SO talented!!! I've been sewing for many years now, but only recently got back into weaving -specifically to create my own fabrics to make clothing. I was very nervous about the idea but after watching your video I feel more confident. Can't wait to watch some more content from you!
I absolutely love this weave and the over all ability to do it. Idk if you have any tutorials on how to set up looms and finish them or how to weave plaid but if you do im learning to weave and these are all some problems im having learning unfortunately.
It is lovely! and you are so generous! Thank you for sharing your process (and your doubts and fears as well!!= I identified a lot with that as well! thank you from a new follower!
Love that jacket, and it looks fantastic on you, and I see you had an assistant to who liked to rearange things for you, but cute Frankie can get away with anything, right! Yes more weaving, please.
The jacket looks fantastic !!! 🙂 ...well, ♫♪the first cut is the deepest♪♫ - I have always hated to start a project by cutting into a perfectly intact fabric...
I noticed in a later vid you had knitted sleeve extensions on this piece-a nice addition! Is there a vid on your process? It turned out really well. (Your cat Frankie is hilarious!)
Stunning!! You’ve inspired me to start cutting my fabric into clothes! I’ve been working with harrisville Shetland lately (scarves and such) and love it but find it has a tendency to soften a bit slower than other wools I’ve used. It’s got quite a bit of spinning oil on it so I’ve been meaning to get Highland, it looks gorgeous in your project and I’m jw how the wool finished and softened up? Any information would be super appreciated!
Hi just came across your channel, great weaving and clothes. But out of interest can you tell me is the Harrisville Highland wool strong enough for the watp as when you pulled it it came apart pretty quick...many thanks.
Thank you! 🤗 Yes, the yarn is strong enough for a warp - I used it as the only yarn in this entire project and I had a wonderful experience with it. I’m just pretty good at snapping yarns with my hands, I guess 😂
Right??? 🤣 I procrastinate SO hard. I currently have a handwoven fabric sitting on my desk that I've been staring at for a week and just haven't had the courage to cut into yet!
I'm not sure about the specifics, but I'm pretty sure any yarn that can fit through the heddles (anything less than bulky) and won't snap under tension can be used as a warp. For the weft, you can use any yarn whatsoever!
Great video! But I want to tell you, that the links that should lead to your other social media accounts, lead to total different people:D (so I think)

Thank you so much, that means so much to me!! 😃 I’ve used both Harrisville Highland (this Christmas sweater video) and Shetland (my log cabin vest video) and I absolutely love both yarns, but I haven’t had much experience washing them and seeing how they soften over time since the two garments are still so new to me! Both are my garments are really similar in softness (ie not super soft, probably not skin soft) and I’m wondering how they might change as I wash them more. I’m sorry this isn’t super useful!! 😅
@@AndreaAlexander that was actually quite helpful! I’ll have to grab a few cones then; I had a feeling they would feel about the same, your description of the yarn is exactly what I’ve experienced with Shetland and I love how the Highland sweater looked! I’ve done some test washes on some Shetland scarves and they went from not being very skin soft at all to softening quite a bit after the 3rd to 4th “wash” using Eucalan each time so I’d bet the Highland is similar to some extent. That being said, my partner isn’t a big wool on skin fan and really didn’t like the feeling of the unwashed Shetland straight off the loom but after the first long soak and wash he could tolerate it and by the 3rd wash he was shocked it was the same material 😂 so take that how you will! Thanks so much for the response and inspiration!
@@varden506 Oooooh, you've definitely got me thinking about making more Harrisville wool projects in my future!! I assumed that using that wool meant that I was limited to lined outerwear, but now you've got me excited to play around with washing it and seeing how it behaves. Do you use the washing machine, or do you hand wash? I looooooove how the yarn weaves up and would love to weave some more with it! Visiting Harrisville is on my bucket list, too 😉
@@AndreaAlexander doooo it! I’ve done a few tests on a set of scarves I made solely for that purpose, I sometimes sell them to country clubs for them to add their logos too so they’re able to provide handwoven pieces for their members so I wanted to make sure the wool would behave nicely off the bat so they can as comfortable as possible. I’ve been hand washing them so far and have come up with a soak cycle that gets the wool to a really nice place: after weaving is done I put a tub full of water that’s a moderately hot but still entirely tolerable to the hand, I add eucalan as instructed for the volume of water and gently press the fabric to help it absorb and then I let that sit for 2 hours until the water is room temp and I drain. Dry it however works best for ya and then as crazy as this sounds, repeat the process 3-4 times but lower the soaking time to around an hour and use tepid water unless ya want to squeeze some more shrinkage in, fiber allowing lol Depending on how it’s looking around wash 2 I decide whether to add a little extra eucalan to the washes. Not sure if the extra lanolin helps as much as it seems too but I figure it’s just like conditioning ones hair so I do it 😂 I use a box fan aimed at the scarves and it really helps dry time, I can get the 4-5 soaks in over 3 days usually if I start in the AM. The wool fulls to such an extent that it becomes almost buttery in texture! I wanna say it’s bc of the amount of spinning oil that’s present on the yarn initially combined with how tightly spun the yarn is that gives it so much resilience before softening, it’s the only wool I’ve used that needs this kinda treatment lol totally worth it imo tho!
@@varden506 Wow! Thank you SO much for this information!! I really do appreciate it!! I'll definitely have to get some more of their yarn and play around with it soon, and I'll be sure to try out your technique :D It seems like a lot of work but it sounds like it's absolutely worth it so I'll definitely give it a go.

A funny project. I love it as much as your Franky loves the fabric. Very nice, thank you. Keep on doing "christmas-jackets" !
I would love to see a update on how this survived after a year or 2 of wear! excellent video!

You did a good job of making this sweater. It looks like Frankie wanted to be in the middle of all the action.

Hi just came across your channel, great weaving and clothes. But out of interest can you tell me is the Harrisville Highland wool strong enough for the watp as when you pulled it it came apart pretty quick...many thanks.

She reminds of Suzette from the Movie "Selena" so cheerful and playful lol
"... pacing around the room for about an hour before finally having the courage to start cutting"
The sewing hobby relate could not be any greater.
Right??? 🤣 I procrastinate SO hard. I currently have a handwoven fabric sitting on my desk that I've been staring at for a week and just haven't had the courage to cut into yet!
May I ask, what do you use to film, edit, and do voiceover on your videos?
I use the Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, and After Effects) for all of my post-production, and I film on a Sony a6300!
What size loom?
How fine a yarn can you use with this loom?
I'm not sure about the specifics, but I'm pretty sure any yarn that can fit through the heddles (anything less than bulky) and won't snap under tension can be used as a warp. For the weft, you can use any yarn whatsoever!
glad im not the only one who thinks its gonna unravel as soon as I cut my yardage lol

I cannot, but I put your comment into Google Translate and could understand that way :)
Excellent process and product. I think the reason why you were struggling with the sleeves were because you didn’t let Frankie help.
She insists on helping, but I don't trust her with scissors! 🤣 ❤️
