The primer blocks the tanins from bleeding through the wood. You have to sand the area and then apply the stain, so that it will take. The table has a sealer on it so the sanding will take it off so that you can re-stain.
I concur! Was just going to write for her to sand it!
Thank you, seems like sanding is the way to go! Will try that eventually 😅
Kirsten, if I had to come up with one word to describe you, it would be FEARLESS! I absolutely love how you just roll with the punches and are willing to try and explore different options. You never seem to get rattled. You never lose your composure. You just keep trying to figure things out. That is an amazing quality in a person. You are a true problem solver. Love your videos ❤
Aw thank you so much. It definitely takes me a beat to regain my composure but I'm absolutely an action-oriented person. So happy you're enjoying figuring it all out with me!
I love how the vase looks, very nice neutral color and texture.
I actually wash my shower curtain and liner in the washing machine in hot water w/ a little detergent and 1 cup baking soda turns out looking brand new and freshly clean.
Strip the table, sand it, and apply wood stain of your choice. That primer is intended to prep bare wood before it is painted, so the tannins don't bleed through.
Ah thanks so much!! I'm definitely going to try this. Hopefully sooner rather than later!
I love the constant evolution of your beautiful apartment! You're such a creative person. Wishing you continued happiness in your lovely home.
Thank you! I love being creative and expressing that within my home.
Try fabric shower liner it can be washed & don’t smell like plastic - Congrats on 35K🎉
Thanks for the tip! I've never heard of that.
Kristen, maybe you can paint the coffee table black. We painted a piece of furniture for my daughter with Sherwin Williams Infinity. The color is Black Magic. It came out really nice and the black will go with your neutral decor. You could even do the top black and keep the wood legs. Just a thought! Your apt is coming along great!
i love that idea! If all else fails, I'll definitely be on the hunt for that black magic paint - thanks for the suggestion 😊
Yay new video on a Tuesday :) I get so much inspo from your videos :)
So happy to hear that!!
I love how you channel your creative energy into multiple projects, Kirsten. It must feel cathartic to you, something like good therapy.....definitely a healthy outlet. 😘 You can save that coffee table, but there's no way around sanding it and staining it afresh. That table's a keeper, as is the new stool! Really enjoy your weekly vlogs, no matter the subject! 🥇🌟🏆🥰🤩
Yes, I'm going to try a few things but like you said this table isn't going anywhere (unless I end up repurchasing it). So glad you like the stool! It works perfectly for both seating and added decor 😌
I love your creation....for over the electrical panel. Your apartment is so cool, serene and peaceful. I lived in NYC. It was fun but you need an oasis to go to after all the...fun.
Thank you! Yes, I so enjoy coming home to a calm space.
I like the stool/bench seating, very nice overall.
Thank you! I'm happy with it as well 🤗
When you sand it be very precise and that way you're just breaking the seal of the ruined part THEN you can apply the products u want for it to be absorbed. Then apply sealant
That'll be my next big project! gotta figure out an outdoor area I can take it to first.
Hey Kirsten, I can imagine how you feel about your coffee table that sucks but it can be fixed. I loove your bench and the artwork looks good. Enjoy the rest of your week❤
Yes definitely fixable! I might try paint :)
Oh man the coffee table accident sucks, hope you find something that works. Love the new art work over the electrical box. Mine is in my hallway between my bathroom and bedroom and the wall space was big so to cover up I used a floor length mirror. Loving the bench as well so cute. Yes, you reminded me to change my shower curtain liner. Thank you, 😂.
Ah I know! Theres always something crazy going on in my home haha
Glad you liked it all! love the idea of a mirror to cover up the unsightly things.
I am sorry about your table and I love the vase and the beautiful art to cover the box. Congrads an the sale of your beautiful art and wish you an amazing day and week.
Thank you! I'm going to try to recover the coffee table but definitely happy with the other changes happening around the apartment 😊
@@kirstenashley2864 You are very welcome and yes you did an amazing job and I appreciate the reply.
Kirrrrrrrsssstttennnn! 🤦♀️ 🤦♀️
on the one hand I'm glad it's not just me who has hideous (but avoidable) accidents with stuff. I'm sure the table is savageable, possibly with expert advice/work but gaaaaaaaah!!
Well done on the art work though 😊
It's never ending over here!! But yes, I'm hoping to figure out a way to get it looking good as new - might have to ask the experts as you said. Thanks for the tips!!
The other option is covering it up with coffee table books.
Yes, I've been using coasters to cover it! haha
Oh my goodness. I did the same thing to my mothers dining table a couple years back. I was doing acrylics at home. Thank God she had insurance. It did take an entire six months for the new one and chairs to come in though. And we donated the old one with the 4 matching chairs to a mom in need 🥰 it was a STUNNING set. And the ring was only the size of a quarter 😅
Aw man. Happy you were able to replace it and find a good home for the old one!!
Gosto muito do teu apartamento ,é muito aconchegante ,❤❤❤🌺
That’s something that definitely could happen to me 😅 love your vídeos and you are soooo inspiring 😍😍
Haha it happens to the best of us! So glad you're enjoying the vlogs.
When u need to do your nails or paint just go to the dollar tree first and purchase a table cloth or drop cloth so that your table or rugs won't get stained or messed up. Always lay something down. 😳👍👍👍🧡🧡🧡
Trust me, I've learned my lesson 😅
Oh nooo, sorry about your table and I love that bench and artwork, When I saw that you had it on your couch 👀 I had to gasp.
Thank you! I keep a throw blanket on my couch so no worries haha
The stool is so cute! Wow the table tho 😢
I know🥲 so disappointing. Let's see if I can get it fixed!
after your last experience I would cover the floor and sofa before I applied any stainer to anything!
Haha I know I'm being reckless
HI Kirsten, I'm not sure if you know this or not, but you can buy cloth shower curtain liners now a days and just put them right in your washing machine with your cloth shower curtain. they come out just like new and with half the work!! FYI. If it makes you feel any better I also spilt nail polish remover all over my dinning room table after only having it for one week!! I cried every time I looked at it. Trust me you are not alone.
Yes, thank you! I plan on purchasing cloth liners when I get through my stash of plastic liners. Ugh nail polish remover is the worst - definitely learned my lesson!
Your best option is sanding it at this point. Make sure you sand it lightly. Also, you can get double sided shower curtain rings which makes it so much easier to change out the liner. Target and Amazon sells them .
Thank you! Yes, sanding seems to be the way to go.
I hate changing the shower liners too but I found one on Amazon that snaps on/off at the mid point of the curtain and it is washable! It’s called Waffle Weave Shower Curtain with Snap-in Fabric Liner
I also paired it with shower hooks that look sort of like hanger hooks. It’s a breeze to remove!!
That's awesome!! I'll have to check it out, thank you 😊
Great video Kirsten!! It’s crazy what happened to your coffee table I actually did the same thing a couple months ago to a folding table in my living room with acetone😂 I just left it as is but I think I may try the markers you used and see how it works ❤
Ah I know, i was so sad!! The markers definitely helped, try it out!
I would sand it down on the top only and try to stain the entire top all over again so the color is seamless. Try to match it to the original stain color. If that works get a piece of glass cut to cover the top, then you don't have to worry about stains. Since you are doing this in your apartment keep a vacuum handy to clean up the sanding as you go.
Love love love that stool. I may copy you....
Please do!
Hi Kirsten,
Love ur new stool and I agree that u could use a larger rug. I think u should raise ur picture so its above the tree. For ur table how about covering the damage with a doily? The cover for ur electrical box looks great ur so talented. 😍
Thanks for the tips!
The old shower curtain could've been used as a tarp to protect your floor/ rug while working on your art projects :)
Lol yes, lord knows I needed it with my track record 😅
@@kirstenashley2864 YES!!
Maybe hire one of those task guys to fix the table? Or a pretty fabric (with hanging tassels?) running down the center (vertically) as decor to cover the spot?
Yes, I'm going to try to sand it down and see if I can re-stain or paint it myself. That's definite an option if it doesn't work out though!
Hi! You can try sanding the entire table top down, prime it and then spray paint it. You might need to do it outside, spray paint smells really bad.
Thank you! i'll see what I can do 😊
Lowes sells the picture frame molding too
Thanks!
Maybe paint the top of the table with a light taupe, leaving the bottom as is. It would be one a kind conversation piece. Seal it with a clear coat.
It looks like that might be wood veneer. If you decide to sand the top down, be careful not to go too deep. You can also lightly sand down the stained area, prime the entire top and then use a foam roller to apply black chalk paint (which is very easy to work with). Wishing you all the best🤞
Thank you for the recommendations! I will absolutely try this. Hoping to preserve the brown wood finish, but if not I think black paint would be the way to go like you said.
use the acetone to strip the table in random spots to a create design?
I would take it to furniture refinisher to have them do it.
I might just do that!
Cover the table with wood grain peel and stick or a marble look peel and stick wallpaper
Thanks for the idea! II think it could be tricky to get a clean look with contact paper on the table since it's such an odd shape. But if all else fails, I could paint it!
The apt. is beautiful! It has a visionary vibe. You must work in design.
Thank you 😊 I don't currently, but maybe in the future!
The only way to fix the table...imo...is...sand the top then stain...or...paint the top with maybe a cream color...hugs
I'm going to try sanding and then a black paint if all else fails. Thanks!
That coffee table actually came back in stock recently. Pre-order though :( I've had my eye on it...
Oh my gosh, thank you! I'll be on the lookout if I can't fix mine.
You can wash (machine wash)your plastic shower liners FYI
Oo okay!
The stool is cute! I love your can do attitude. If the table means a lot to you, take it to a professional who does furniture restoration. They should be able to get as good as before. The table is not too big and hopefully it would be reasonable in price.
Thank you! Yes, I really like the shape and how it has a very slim profile - it works well in my space. Might see if I make the investment in it.
@@kirstenashley2864 a French Polisher may be pricey but worth it if they can rescue the damaged area rather than the entire table top!
I recently saw someone on tic tok use oven cleaner on a piece of wood furniture to remove the finish back to original wood (dont know about sanding) but perhaps you could search and see if you can find it ... Then just straight, restain your table. Wishing you the best result, sorry this happened to you. I had a daughter have the same thing happen to her nightstand.
Woah thats a new one! Might have to try it, thank you!
Hello Kristen Ashley 😊 I love your videos. Your designs are beautiful. Sorry for your coffee table. Like the other person who comment earlier, you would have to sand the whole table and stain it. By the way I Love your hair🌷😊
Thank you! Yes i'm going to try that 😌
A French polisher would probably be able to repair the damage to your coffee table. They are so expert in repairing wood finishes. Not cheap, but they're absolute pros.
Oo okay. I'll, see if sanding it does the trick. Otherwise, I'll definitely see if I can find somebody!!
All you had to do was just a little light sanding of that area and then put the matching wood stain. You have made it worse just take it somewhere and have it stripped. There are plenty videos on UA-cam showing you how to strip it. I’m sorry I can’t help you, I’m in California 😊. You are brave painting on top of the table like that without covering it. Hopefully you get it fixed. Good luck
You can try the sand the table completely n re-stain it.
Yes - that's going to be the next step! Thank you 😊
How did the stain happen?
That has happen to my table twice.
Ugh, it's awful! Let's see if sanding it down will do the trick.
Keep it simple.
Your a cutie 😘
Idk if it helps but my mom always used coffee or black tea for water marks on wood. It used to work pretty good.
Thank you!!
I heard ur supposed to use a rolling pin on the eucalyptus in order to release the scent of the oils.
Oh, never heard that! Might give it a try, thanks.
You may have to pint it a color. Would black work?
Yes, thats definitely a consideration if all else fails! Thank you!
You can just put a vase or some other home décor over it on top of it!
Yes, thank you!
You are aware that those markers that you ordered from Amazon they sell them at the dollar store. And have you ever thought about just going to Home Depot and buying spray paint?
I know, didn't have a dollar store by me that sold them.. and I wanted to preserve the look of the wood finish, so spray paint wasn't my first choice.
Hi Kirsten. Where is your gray sweatsuit from? Super cute.
Thank you! It's from Zara last season.
Please share the link for the stool. Thanks!
Added to the description!
Sanded very lightly don't put too much pressure. You don't wanna sand it down too deep. Do a tester first of the stain on a piece of wood that you don't use. Sand the area that's damaged then you should try to find a stain the same color as the table or you can just look on UA-cam and see if you can find a another way to try and fix it.
Girl you still painting on that table with no cover
Yes sanding seems to be the way to go, will do!
Lol i have to sand it down anyway to recover it so why not?
the fact the acetone did that to you're table is scary we put that on our hands nails gotta be very toxic hopefully you can fix it.
Absolutely! I try to use gentle polish removers but I guess they all have chemicals that aren't so great.
Awww - I know you had a fit boo 😢
Lolol traumatized forever.
Why don’t you try to turn table around and maybe cover the spot with decor? 😢 sorry this sucks
I might just do that, thanks!
I’ve don’t same ruined my desk with acetone.
Ugh, it's brutal 😭
Girl! 😩
I know 😭
Contact the store where u bought it for the manufacturer or take it to a furniture restore store
Thanks for the tips!
Nooooooooooooo no primer!!!!!!!! Primer is used before painting. It’s ruined. Just sand the whole piece to the wood and re-stain. I’ve redone furniture in several occasions. Before doing so, apply an oil based wood conditioner, if you’re using oil based stain. Then get minwax clear paste wax and buff to add protection and a light satin finish. U might mess up more using clear poly. It’s a skill. Anyway U
don’t ever prime before adding a stain!!!!!! If anything a wood conditioner!!!! Nooooo baby girl. If anything use a lint free rag to apply stain.
Note: if u decide to redo get citristrip to remove the finish. It’s a process for sure, but u will be happy.
Girl you have had alot of bad luck/ happy accidents since moving into that apartment...Get the sage back out!
I buy fabric shower curtain liners. I wash it in the machine every other month. I hate the smell of plastic.
Haha yes it happens! Love that - fabric curtain liners are so smart!
Sorry love this happen to you. I will put a nice decorative cloth over the table and try to take a deep breath!
Thank you! I'm trying not to sweat it
Please tell us how you can afford to ALWAYS shop, take vacations and live alone in expensive NEW YORK!!!! 😅😅😅 TELL US YOUR SECRETS!
You may hate this idea. On Amazon they have dark walnut contact paper. If you could do the top, it may look ok. I exploded ketchup on my new couch last year. It went everywhere and I did cry. I know how you feel. Here I am worried about my cat ruining it, and it's me.
Aw, ketchup on a couch is my worst nightmare! Hope you were able to get it cleaned somehow. I'm going to look into sanding the table down and if all else fails - paint or contact paper! Thanks for the tip 😊
I get teacher vibes from you. Are u an educator?
Sand it down and go from there
Thanks, will do that soon hopefully
I'm sorry to say this but maybe you should stop doing any DIY because obviously, nothing seems to really work. Sometimes, putting some money at the problem really helps and saves a lot of time :) My 2 cents....
I don't think giving up is the solution! I've done plenty of DIYs that turned out well. It's all about trial and error and I don't mind getting it wrong sometimes - that's how you learn :)
I’m not an expert but sanding and staining it will work. Maybe you can find someone that can do it for you in your area. Good luck. 🫶🏾🙏🏾😉
Thank you! Defin itely trying this next!
