In this video, Brian and Brian tackle a very difficult topic: how leave well when it's time to transition away from a leadership role in a church.
Above all, we want to communicate that we love the church and believe it is the hope of the world. And if you are in a place where you are thinking of leaving, seek advice and counsel from people you trust.

So encouraging to see anointed, non-GQ, balding middle aged men worship leaders. God is good!

I wish I had this type of advice before I left my first church in 2016. I was going through a tough time with my family and then my mother got sick. I was feeling so alone and isolated at the time. My attendance to rehearsals was poor due to me being at the hospital that the worship leader decided to “release” me. But instead of face to face she did it through email. I ended up leaving the church without a word and haven’t talked to any them since. Thankfully I’m at a new church and doing very well. I do wish I didn’t burn my bridges like that but I was in a really dark place.

Thanks for such a great video! After 15 years, I gave 5 months notice to the pastor and worship coordinator. However, they were left with great upgrades that will do the church for years to come.

This has been so good. I am a youth worship leader for one of our campuses for my church, and I am in the process of leaving to go to college to study worship leading, and this series has been so good. If you're going to leave, leave looking like Jesus. So good guys. I really appreciate this all.

Thanks for another good video with a lot of good points. I'm right now in the process of leaving a church I've been at almost 6 years. It's not at all due to any hostility, but more just a different season for my family. I have instinctively followed a lot of this advice, mainly because I really love many people there and am on a very small but tight knit team. If anything, the hardest part for me has been feeling I was letting them down or hurting the church by leaving. In praying through it, I think the Holy Spirit helped me realize that although I played a large role, no one person is essential for God's work through that church, and also some of the emotional guilt I was feeling was taking on burdens that aren't mine. I've since come to peace and been communicating to people. Still tough, but I honestly wish them the best and for someone to rise up in my absence. I also gave them more than 60 days to help with planning and have offered to help behind the scenes where I can after I'm gone. The key is to cherish the good relationships you have at a place, as they are important, no matter why you leave.

Great advice to take your time and that's great advice in so many more situations than just leaving. We've had a season of transition in our team-that involved our previous Worship Director not leaving well-and it has taken up so much mental bandwidth for my husband and I being involved as leaders. The best advice my husband gave me at one point was simply to give it week, just take some time to see how things play out before further action or discussion. He was so right and I am learning that time is SO valuable and Christ's intent for us is never to rush into anything brashly. We've talked a lot about the difference between being reactive vs proactive...so important!

Consider giving a word of encouragement to those of us who are left behind to pick up the pieces. Recently, several of my church’s leaders (including the worship leader) left... not in a good way. A lot of people got hurt in the process. As a body, we are still hurting. And yet we have to keep going, working for the One worthy of all praise.
    You are a blessing, guys.

I have to put my resignation letter and say I'm leaving. since they did not listen to me and above all they did not respect my position. Especially my superiors. They put people to Sing and play that they knew clearly they could not be part of the ministry or to participate in front of the congregation. The only reason for this is because they were skillful. But there fruits are not the fruit of the spirit.
When I am going to talk to my superior they still saying that I am wrong. God had to reveal some people on the congregation that I am living an the reasons that my superior understand that I am living, and the reasons need to change.

I agree. A couple in leadership at our church was hurt by the lead pastor and took it upon themselves to write a book including the whole process and every little thing they were "abused" by. I have struggled with understanding this as both parties have been very influential in my life. This helps and I am hurting for the couple that left, as they are lost in selfishness and pain from the church.

I'm thinking to Leave my Worship team too Real Soon.
I'm the Main vocalist in the team and The Acoustic guitar player as well .
The problem is they never practice and comes when we gather for rehearsal. Only after we gather they're like - What are the Songs? What are the Chords?
And they play so much unnecessary other ROCK Songs like Metallica , ACDC, IRON maiden etc 😅 I've talked with them about this but they don't listen . I'm leaving

What if you have left the leadership position, but then the person who's in charge now is missing few important things that i see. I've tried to tell in generally, but still he does nothing about it, well he does something but not quite effective. How to tell the team or him?
