Fun fact: Brenden Fraser who played Rick O Connell was left unconscious after filming the hanging scene. The film crew eventually got him back on his feet, so ironically Fraser was resurrected.

Brendan Fraser actually injured his back during the hanging scene which affects him to this day. Rachel Weise is also in Constatine and Black Widow films...One thing I always thought was strange is O'Connel's gun bag which seems to be able to float in water.

The second Mummy movie is just as good.

The Mummy with Tom Cruise isn't terrible - it's just _not good._
The Mummy (1999) is a reimagining of the original 1930s version, which was a thriller instead of an adventure. They also had reboots in the 1950s and 1970s, but the 1999 version has been the most popular.
The Tom Cruise version was going to be the start of a "Dark Universe," bringing together all of Universal's famous monsters in an MCU-style franchise series. Its failure caused the cancellation of multiple films.

18:43 This scene still cracks me up to this day. Carrying all those amulets suits Beni well, being a deceitful and untrustworthy character. The reason the mummy spares Beni when he speak Hebrew is because he recognized it as the language of the slaves, so he offered him to be his servant

The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evelyn described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): The embalmers used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie.
    Side trivia:
    1. In the scene introducing her as Ankh-su-namun, model/actress Patricia Velásquez was completely naked with the exception of a loin cloth, a few pieces of jewelry, pasties & body paint (body paint took four hours to apply).
    2. Brendan Fraser revealed on a recent episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that he had a near-death experience during a stunt gone wrong while filming “The Mummy.” The Oscar winner said he was “choked out accidentally” during the scene in which he had to be hanged from the gallows in the Egyptian prison, which resulted in him being resuscitated by on-set medical personnel.
    3. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster (on flat land), but camels are adapted to life in the desert. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move.
    4. After Evelyn unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading The Book Of The Dead (which is actually a funerary scroll in real life) and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts crawling on the Egyptologist are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish. On a similar note, the scarabs in real life were merely dung beetles, not vicious flesh eaters.

@@donaldball3245 Yup. It was used in a ritual to determine a spirit's worthiness to enter the afterlife. In the weighing of the heart rite, the heart of the deceased is weighed in the scale against the feather of the goddess Maat, who personifies order, truth, and what is right. If the scales balanced, Osiris accepted the deceased into his company and granted him eternal life. If not, the heart would be eaten by the monster Ammut (the Devourer), shown as a hippopotamus with a crocodile head, and the person would die forever.

To answer your question about him shooting the beetles, he's using a pump action shotgun and like any other shotgun it shoots pellets that spread out once fired to hit the intended target with more force and power. Being that the pellets spread once fired he shot at the beetles intending for the pellets to spread and hit some of them (he wasn't trying to kill all the beetles tho he was trying to slow them down with the shotgun blasts so they could get away)

"The Mummy" is a delightful treasure of a movie that has everything that any film fanatic could ever desire; a fascinating and exciting adventure film in ancient Egypt, and a dynamic genre hybrid at that; it is a raucous horror movie, a rousing adventure, an intriguing fantasy film, a witty comedy, and a good-natured romantic story all wrapped up into one. Throughout it's breezy two-hour running time, Stephen Sommers (director/writer) delivered rollicking fun from start to finish with brilliant craftsmanship.

Fun fact: The scene involving the toppling of the bookshelves, which I just noticed that you left out, took only one take. Fortunate for them, I would say. It definitely saved time, not having to clean up and reshoot the scene.
The scene started with a stunt man (in drag) starting the reaction. The camera followed the shelves, with the actress kneeling just below the camera. At the precise moment, she just had to rise up for the camera to see her.

Dude! If you're looking for shows involving Egyptian Mythology the very best one is called Stargate SG1. There's a move but the series is much better.

Actually 10. 6 films in the Universal Classic Monsters series of films, 3 in the Stephen Sommers series (of which this is the first one), and the first (and only) Dark Universe film.@@ryancheney6841

The "original" from 1932 was by far the best in my opinion.

This is a good movie, it is entertaining and is what movies are supposed to be. The actors are great, the story cool, and a splash of action with romance. You guys are really good reactors and also make a super cute couple.
