Depends on how you prepare it. Ideally you want to have it fresh and not too ripe, take out all the seeds and the sort of paper-like tissue around the seeds (that's the most bitter), and the cook it the way you like it. Some people like it super well cooked, others like it just lightly cooked - also depends on the dish you're using it in. Make sure you add salt (or MSG) and have something else to go with the bitter melon. In Chinese cuisine you'd typically stir fry it with egg into an omelette or with some juicy beef strips. Some Southeast Asian cultures might put in a stew. Ideally the bitter melon comes out only slightly bitter with a hint of sweetness, and it's got a really nice texture between being firm and mushy (again depending on how you cook it). If your bitter melon was super bitter, either it wasn't prepared right, or your tongue is especially sensitive to the bitter compounds in the melon. Which is fine. It's not for everyone. But there's a chance that you just didn't have it prepared properly!

EXACTLY! ahahhahahahahaha...
Report tht man
The only one I missed was the horseradish because it honestly just looks like a root and without being able to smell it, it’s difficult to identify
I like that you guys added in the chef not just identifying the produce but explaining what they taste like and how they might be used.
Does anyone call bitter melon bittergourd instead?
I do
My family calls it "karela" (we're Bengali) but I call it nasty
I do, and the long beans I call string beans instead
I call it Cundeamor.
I do 🙋
Bitter Melon
Girl: "I think it's pre-historic cocumber"
Long Beans
Girl: "They are seaweed beans"
Oh c'mon!

I feel he did great. what he didn't know, seemed to think of ways to smartly cook or mix flavors.
the 50 format made so that he doesn't appear as much, so here we are.
Renan Issler i love how we all root for him
Shows the dragon fruit.
*"Guava."*
yo i deadass feel mad privileged to have someone who cooks for me and actually cares about what they cook for me ( my LOVELY grandmother ), because of her i knew every vegetable here besides the rambutans, but then again im asian and a lot of these are used in asian dishes
Came here expecting tomatoes and some grapes
Couldn’t recognize any of these
“This is the most disrespectful fruit in the world,” said the guy that disrespected the durian. 🙈 He cut all the way through the pods and seeds. 😂 Who elsewhere likes durian?
Here.
Hahaha.... unfortunate for them, it is their loss. =P Durians are great if you do learn to enjoy them. Chinese from China have been crazy about durians. The durians I have seen in some videos doesn't look delicious at all.
NOT ME
*Am I the only one who thinks that Durians don’t smell?*
Yes
No
No, many people thinks it's actually fragrant
No
A Person it's smell, but I loveee it
If you’re Filipino you should know all of this
Yass
👍
I got horseradish wrong. Huhuhu. Isusumpa ako ng lola ko. Lels.
I was ticked with the one who hacked the durian across, though. That's just so wrong. My Davaoeña heart is weeping TT^TT
LMAO YES!
Came here to say this. Every single one was a regular in my house 🤷🏻♀️
I love how these people have little to no idea of what these things are.
“This is a femur”😂
- Kunyit/Kunir (Turmeric) basic of our food and drink or Art
- Rambutan, Rambut = hair, Rambutan = hairful fruit
- Pare (Bittermelon) bitter taste but my fav vegetable
- Horse radish (never cook it)
- Kacang panjang. Kacang = bean, panjang = long (long bean)
- Durian a.k.a King of fruit
You have to test people with Durian, Nangka (Jack fruit), Cempedak, Kluwih, Sukun (Bread fruit), Buah merah (Red fruit)
- Buah Naga. Buah = fruit, Naga = Dragon. Cool guy but not my type 😂
The only one I didn't answer correctly was the horseradish. I thought it was taro root.
I thought it was tapioca 😂
Taro is more round like potato, cassava is like a long potato (rounded sweet potato looking) :P If you could smell it then it's an easy guess haha
thought it was cassava
I thought it was tapioca
Easy to mistake when only seeing it on video without a good close up.
I’m prounoncing lychee wrong....
I say lie-chee
Not lee-chee
Edit 10th March(australian time):I am Asian myself and I would say Lai-ci but there’s English here so I placed lie-chee
No, they are pronouncing it wrong.
Both are correct. Toh-mah-toh toh-may-toh.
Lie-chee is close to South East Asian pronunciation of laici while lee-chee is close to Chinese litchi.
@@boosay568 Except in Canto Chinese, it sounds like lay-chu.
@@arrgghh1555 IT IS LIE-CHEE !!!!!!!!!
I mean it really depends on the countey and dialect. There isn't really a "right" way to say it.
Please bring back this series!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
These are prominent Caribbean staples as well...just with different names
Yes, like we say Bora not long beans lol
Different name for everything except Saffron/Turmeric and dragon fruit
All the comments: Easy if you're aisian
Me from Trinidad: knows what all these are 😂
Most of them are natives to southeast Asia so it's only common if Asian knew these
These are common in suriname aswell
Literally went through these comments looking for another trini
Omg same lol
Lol 🇹🇹
Slightly bitter flavor? Is this guy for real? Slightly?
What's what my parents told me to get me to try it :(
That was the first scam for a kid
@@TheOomara i tried it and i regretted it instantly
THATS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT
1:20 I would poop my pants before I would try to whiten my teeth with turmeric
Don't dare try to correct me. I have already pooped my pants
mangosteen, jackfruit. they just naming fruits that sound tropical 🤣🤣
puberty litchi 😂 that video was hilarious
Litchi
Wtf is a litchi
1:06 so that guy knows what turmeric is but doesn't know what a kiwi is ?!
I immediately recognised them all from the thumbnail. All these ingredients in Bahasa Melayu (Malay language) are : kunyit hidup, peria katak, lobak putih, rambutan, kacang panjang, durian, buah naga. Commonly used in Southeast Asian cooking!
Next do people try common food items and guess the ingredients
procupine egg...ok im done here
Yeah, I almost choked when I heard that.
The older lady in the blue had me dead 😂
"GUAVA."
the confidence, the passion
Fruits from asian country 😂😂 durian, dragonfruit, rambutan 😍
