Good reaction, Gents. Loving the all Deftones videos. I take the song as him or both being really depressed and thinking about suicide. Really difficult to interpret Chino's lyrics.
And Chi Cheng had his car accident, he wasn't wearing his seatbelt and injected resulting in severe brain trama. He was in a semi conscious state for those yearsnand he never came out but pneumonia got him. R.I.P. Chi Cheng
Thank you for your input.
Cherry Waves is a must
it's about Heavens gate cult mass suicide and the Haley-bopp comet
Chi was in a coma/vegetative state for al those years. To me this is a departure song...somebody who died. But thats just the vibe it gives me.
So when I interpret the song and “feel” it, which it has huge feels for me, Xerces is the name of the comet (Sounds like something NASA would name it right?) and picture an old soul indifferent to dying, and even after death being so tired of it all you didn’t care to come back if given the choice. He’s welcoming death, and whatever release it brings. Imagine being so ready to die you’d gladly walk straight into the comet while waving goodbye. That’s my take, i feel ya Chino
The band has a tendency to just come up with names for songs just to sound cool. Also Xerxes is a king from the Persian empire, and the main take away is a reflective song about depression.
One of my all time favorite songs along with cherry waves.
