    My frustration is, ALL of the photos STAYING in the main library, instead of ‘just moving them,’ so I’d visibly SEE, which photos I have left to sort! ARRGH Apple, just ARRGH!

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  3 роки тому +3

      Oh, @Matrix Unravelling, I hear you! It does take some time getting used to it, and for sure could be improved!
      I think Apple is trying to make it easy to have everything in the main Library and sort it all by date and then have users like you and me sort manually by albums.
      A quick tip if you're looking to easily manually organize all of you photos into albums...although this will only work if you have a Mac...
      Create a "Smart Album" on in Photos on your Mac and tell it to find every photo that is NOT in an album, then you can organize based off of that Smart Album vs the Main Library and then you know what photos you haven't manually organized yet!
      Hope this helps and thanks so much for watching! I appreciate the support!

      @@Learnwithjoel, ‘YES!” And “thank you” so much. I was going to also add, before reading your solution, I could literally make a separate folder containing a duplicate of ALL photos, which would give me the freedom to delete, as I sort - but new photos wouldn’t be added to that folder, by default. “Thanks again!” P.S. I have the new iPad Pro.

    Just watching this vid, even tho 2 yrs old ... because Albums v Folders is always a mystery that I come back to from time-to-time. Wanted to share a little hack I recently learned about ... since many people (like me) find it frustrating that pics that are set to Albums **STILL LIVE IN LIBRARY** (aka for OGs ... Camera Roll). The hack is to create a Smart Folder which has THREE criteria: [1) Photo is not hidden; 2) Album is not Any; 3) Photo is not video] ... this results in a Smart Folder where what you will see pics that dont otherwise live in an Album. I find this VERY USEFUL:)

      Excellent suggestion on the Smart Album @chumbawumba3617!
      I did the same thing, except I didn't exclude videos! I shall add that to the criteria!
      Now if only @Apple would sync Smart Albums with the photos inside among iCloud Photos. That would be an excellent improvement!

A folder in a folder also possible ) OK-go back to the Photo app-delete the photos you just used- (also the bin!) the photos are now in folders

  • @SteveInSunnyCA

    You left out critical information. Using your example, would it have been necessary to rename every shop photo something like “shop-001”, “shop-002”, “shop-003” in order to be able to find them with the search tool, OR is the app smart enough to recognize the images by the content?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  3 роки тому

      Hi @Steve Hines! Great observation! I probably could have expanded more on the search as that could probably be a whole video on it's own!
      It is not necessary to rename every shop photo or really any photo, however the search doesn't always find what you're looking for.
      The Photos app certainly has gotten better with time using it's algorithms to recognize content like: food, dogs, beaches, trees, flowers and simple concepts like that, but it's still not 100% accurate.
      My workflow for me personally is that I use Capture One as my primary editing tool and then I export all of the photos out of there to then import into Apple Photos so everything is accessible on all of my devices.

    My problem is adding picture from the Recent album to another album. But after doing that, those pictures are still in the Recent. Now i’m confused if I already added those pictures to an album. I don’t want to see the pictures that I already added to another album in the Recent folder. I can’t just delete the pictures in the Recent folder, because it will delete that copy even on other albums and that is dangerous.

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  3 роки тому +1

      Hi @Pinoy Mukbang Pro! I totally agree that it could be a little more simple with the relationship of albums to recents and library in such.
      I think of it pretty much this way. Any photo that is not in an album will be deleted from all locations and devices. When you add a photo to a regular album, it's just referencing it as a shortcut to the actual photo that lives in the Library, Recents, Imports, People and Places.
      When you add a photo to an album you can freely delete it from the album and it will remain in all other locations. But if you delete that photo from the library, recents, imports, people, or places, it will removed from everywhere! So be careful! :-)
      Maybe they'll change this concept in upcoming software updates, but for now, this is how it is. Hope this helps clarify a little! Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the support!

    How do you make an Album “Private”, needing a Password to view?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  3 роки тому +1

      Hi @ Suzie Cruz!
      This would be a nice addition for Apple to add, as I think they sometimes think everyone in the world uses Apple and has an Apple ID account...
      As of the moment, there is no way currently that i'm aware of to be able to password protect and share a private album.
      The current alternatives are using Shared Albums in iCloud Photos. I'll link a video below that talks about them. Shared albums gives you the ability to share privately with someone by their email address, but it needs to be an Apple ID. There is also an option to share an album via a link to view, however anyone that gets the link would be able to see all of the photos.

    For me the by far biggest wish: In the photo app moving photos to albums and folders instead of copying the photos. Now it is only possible to copy a photo to an album or folder and always there will be one in the library. Not one of the frustrations, it is THE BIGGEST FRUSTRATION.
    Why Apple don’t let you the choice •to move or to copy•?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому +2

      Hey @Patje Kluivert!
      I agree, it does get a little confusing!
      I would like to clarify a few things though. When you import photos into Apple Photos or take a picture with your iPhone or iPad, the original file gets saved to the "Library". Now if you add a photo to an album, it does not copy or move it. It's merely referencing the original photo that it's the library.
      Therefore if you try to delete a picture from an album it gives you two choices. 1: To remove the photo from just from that album. 2: To actually delete the photo from the album which would also delete it from the Library.
      If you delete a photo or video from the library or or any pretty much any other location like the categories under the "Media Types", it will delete that file from everywhere including the manual albums you created.
      So just know that if you put a photo/video into a manually created album, it does not duplicate, move, or copy the file. It's just referencing it to the original one in the library.
      I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching and the continued support! It helps more than you know and is greatly appreciated! If you know someone who may benefit from this video, feel free to share it along!

      @@Learnwithjoel Hey Joel, thanks a lot for the explanation. Very helpful. But there are two different albums. Shared albums and normal albums. Shared albums make a big difference. When you use shared albums and you share the shared album with nobody, it makes a clear difference compared to a ‘normal’ album. When i add a photo from the library in a shared album (share only with myself) then you have the same photo in the library and the shared album. Now the big difference. When i remove the photo from the library, the photo (or the reference, but that doesn’t matter) will only stay in the shared album.
      I try this different times and definetely this works.
      When you think about it, it is very strange. Because the photo, orginal in icloud, is deleted in the library but still in the shared album. The photo is an icloud photo. Add the photo to a shared album made the photo a non-icloud photo?

    I am an android user for past 10 - 12 yrs , this time I thought to upgrade to iPhone but after listening to all this hustle 😅 ( managing photos and videos ) , I am dropping my idea to buy iPhone, i think I should stick to Samsung only !!
    I am a person who keep 10000... of photos and videos in my device and keep moving them on my windows pc
    In switching from android to ios , I have to move many Albums from my pc to iPhone, I don't think that will be easy
    Can I move multiple albums ( photos and videos ) to iPhone from iTunes ?? Will it show the same arrangement in ios as same as in my pc ( like organized manner) or photos/videos organized in my pc ??

      Working with albums in the photo app is not very handy. When you put a photo from the photo library to an album, the photo will stay in the photo library and makes only a copy. Select the photo or photos and use the share button. Click on save in files, choose location and give the folder (where the photos will be) a name. When the photos are in the file app, delete the photos in the photo app. Also check the bin.

      @@Learnwithjoel there’s a way to bypass the limit - it only counts photos that you move into albums in the “Organized” section of the app. If you keep rotating and don’t keep 10k pix in a single album, it works pretty well

    My biggest beef is that Apple will not Alphabetize my 50+ albums. Sure I can spend hours doing g it manually but gee they somehow managed to alphabetize my contacts!!!🧐Apple can be so frustrating, and I don’t want to switch to Android I just want Apple to make more sense! (( and 3 yrs later, Apple still has not done this))

      I hear ya @123craftygal! It can be very annoying!
      Do you have a Mac by chance?! If you do you can actually sort your Albums within Apple Photos and it will sync to your iPad and iPhone!
      If this is the case, just "Right Click" on "My Albums" on the left side within Apple Photos and you will have three options to sort:
      By Name
      By Oldest First
      By Newest First
      I hope that helps!

    Hands down, Apple products encompass the least intuitive, most cumbersome and expensive bunch of proprietary nonsense I've ever dealt with in my life. If you'd enjoy having a car with a moving, hidden fuel tank cap that once located only accommodates one brand of gasoline, than Apple is for you.
    The worst tech purchasing decision of my life was buying an Apple product and it's one I won't make again.
