    Great video! Three questions. 1) What happens if I create an iCloud shared photo album but remove a subscriber. Will their photos be deleted or kept? 2) If I unsubscribe to a shared iCloud photo album will my photos be deleted from it? 3) How can I easily save photos from a shared album without accidentally saving my own contributed photos again? Thank you!

    Joel. loved the video on shared albums but have one important question. If I share with someone and they want to use the iCloud link because they are on android/windows, how do they download all the photos to their computer. Not just one or two...more like 100 or more. Performing a right-click on each one is not practical.

    One question : I really dont understand the diffrence with "My Albums" then ?
    What is the difference between "My Album" and "Shared Album" if you can just create "Shared Album" that are not shared ?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  4 місяці тому

      You're welcome very much @Arthur_Marie!
      So "My Albums" is your own personal organization of photos just for you. They reference the high quality original files from your Photo Library. The "Shared Albums" are designed to share selective photos with anyone and everyone if they don't have an Apple Device. Another big difference is that Apple will scale the quality down of the files put in a Shared Album.
      The other option that you'll see is a shared library, which allows you to share your entire library automatically or manually if you want with someone else. I have another video on this that I'll link for reference:
      iCloud Shared Libraries - Understanding what they are and how they work!

    I have an issue. I have a shared album with my gf. We both added photos to it. I would like to import photos that she added without importing mine. Built in system that warns about duplicated doesn't work when you import photos from shared album, it just makes a copy of your own photo. Then I thought that I can use a filter that shows me only her photos but I couldn't fint it. Does anyone knows how to do it properly on Mac?
    I did my best with my English, Thanks for help :)

    Joel, I am struggling to find out how to download an entire album so if the "owner" deletes it one day, I will not lose the pictures. Is there a simple way to download and save an entire album?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  Рік тому

      Hi @Lara Oakley!
      I can relate to your struggle as it's not the easiest thing to figure out!
      So the most important question is, what devices do you have and what device you're doing it on.
      On a Mac, you can access the Shared Album within Apple Photos and then select the Shared Album on the left side. Then select all photos within that shared album, and you can "Right Click" and choose "Import". This will download and import all the photos from that shared album to your Mac.
      If you're on an iPhone or iPad, you can navigate to the same Shared Album within the Photos App. Then touch "Select" in the top right. From there you should see a "Select All" option in the top right. Then after all files are selected, you can touch the share button (the square with the upward arrow) in the bottom left and scroll down through the options and choose "Save XX Items".
      This will download and save the photos from the cloud to your device.
      I hope that helps! Maybe this may be a good topic for a video! Thanks so much for watching!

      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому

      Hey @Ray Ebersole, thanks so much for the kind words!
      Are you wondering about the Photos program i'm using? The Photos program demoed here would be the native Apple Photos Application that is only available on an Apple Computer. Even though there is some integration with iCloud Photos on a Windows computer, it's only with the files and not the actual software.
      I know Windows has it's own built in Photos Program that is designed to organize and edit your pictures, but i'm not sure how well it works or much about it to suggest a recommendation.

    I have my Google folder pictures but I want to put them in my apple photos albums & folders what are the steps to do this

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  10 місяців тому

      Hi @sebriwill54!
      There could be a few different ways to do this. When you say Google Folder Pictures, are the photos in Google Photos, or are they in a folder within Google Drive?
      Also what kind of devices do you have? Mac, iPhone, iPad, PC?
      Are you using iCloud Photos?
      Depending on what you're using and where the photos in Google are specifically, the process could be different.
      If you're using a computer, the main goal is to get all the files to it. Either by downloading from Google's website or syncing via OneDrive, or even exporting from Google Takeout.
      Once you have the files exported and saved, you can then import into Apple Photos which would then allow you to put into Albums and Shared Albums.
      Thank you for your continued support! I appreciate you more than you know!

    Thanks Joel. Can you download photos that are shared with you to your personal Photos?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  3 роки тому

      Hi @Darren Fitzpatrick! Yes you can! So if you're on an iPhone or iPad, you can open the shared photo stream and select the photo, then touch the little upward arrow share button in the bottom left of the picture and there you'll have an option to "Save Image"
      If you're on a Mac and using Apple Photos, just open the shared photo stream and "right click" on the photo and select "import". That will also add it right to your own personal Photo library.
      Hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the support!

    Thanks Joel, very well done and very informative. I have a question, please. I have gone in and added info to many of the pictures in my shared album. I want to share my album with many different relatives. I do not know everyone in every picture or when or where the pictures were taken. All of the pictures were scanned so there is no metadata available. I labeled many of the pictures with the name UNKNOWN. Can any of my relatives who know people in the picture and or where and when they were taken, can they go into the info area and add that information so everyone would know? Thanks!!!

      Great question @Ron Lowe!
      There are certainly ways Apple could improve Shared Albums and this is one example. For your scenario, you can actually make comments on individual photos, but you can only do it from an iPhone or iPad. You can't do it from the web link, or within Apple Photos. It's quite silly actually.
      Say you shared an album with me... I would get an invite and it would show up in my Apple Photos under the Shared Albums. If I viewed a photo on my iPhone or iPad, I could swipe up and add comments to the photo of who, when, what, and where.
      I hope that helps! Thank you for your continued support!

      @Learnwithjoel  Рік тому

      Great question @jcramirez8!
      Apple is lacking in the control of permissions when sharing photos. I think their approach is that if you're sharing an album, you're wanting the viewer to be able to download and copy the photos to wherever they'd like.
      Even putting photos in iCloud, there is no "view-only" option.
      Your best bet is to use Google Drive, Dropbox or another Photo sharing platform that is designed specifically for this.

    When I share photos through Shared Albums, Apple basically cuts down the quality/resolution of my original photos (these photos appear just fine at full res in my own personal album) - is there a way to maintain the original quality of the photo when it goes to Shared Album (i.e. can I volunteer my own iCloud storage space if it means I'll get to maintain quality)? Also, I'm aware of Shared Libraries but I'm a bit disinclined to use this because (1) other participants of a Shared Library can also edit/modify my own photos, which I don't want because I spend a lot of time editing my photos in Adobe LR and I don't want others to further edit the photos I contribute, and (2) there are different shared sets of photos that I'd like to share with different combinations of people separately from the rest and I don't want all my Shared Library participants to be able to see everything every time. I realize there's probably limitations to both options and ultimately in the long run I may just have to find a non-Apple alternative for photo cataloging/selective album sharing. But yes, back to my question - is there any way or workaround possible to maintain original quality of the photos that go into Shared Albums?

      Shared albums are associated with your Apple ID, so as long as you have the setting turned on for Shared Albums, they'll automatically show up!

    Your vacation together comment is exactly what's up... how come if I make a shared folder or if I do air drop... and I see I've selected meta data... they aren't getting the date and location? I've checked my settings, I invited three people to my shared photo album, and then they disappear a few minutes later.

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому

      Hey @Victoria Wood!
      So a few questions and suggestions...
      What device are you sharing from? When you reference a shared folder, are you talking about a "Shared album"?
      What is disappearing a few minutes later? The album, the photos or the people who were invited to it?
      I know that whenever you share photos in a Shared Photo Album, the person invited needs to save the photo first to see the date and time and camera Meta Data. I agree that it's silly and it should just show it within the shared album, but it doesn't. Another item for Apple to add in upcoming updates!
      As far as AirDrop is concerned, there are some "options" that most people overlook when sharing photos via AirDrop and text. Let's say you're on your iPhone and you want to share some photos using AirDrop or iMessage...
      When you select the photos and touch the share button (the box with the upward arrorw), there's a button that says "options" at the very top in text. If you touch that it gives you an option to include "All Photo Data". I have not found a way yet to always have this feature turned on, as for privacy reasons, many people don't want to show location of photos and videos, but this is an option if some info is missing from photos that you share.
      I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching! I look forward to hearing from you! If you haven’t already, please support me by subscribing! It helps more than you know and is greatly appreciated!

      Hi @
      So Shared Albums won't actually show up on the iCloud website. If they're not appearing on the iPad, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID and that you make sure iCloud Photos is turned on.
      Also under the iCloud Photos section within settings there is a toggle switch for Shared Albums. Double check to see if that is on.

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  Рік тому

      I don't think there will be a fix as there is nothing broken @jorritvermoesen7063.
      Apple states:
      "When shared, photos are reduced to 2048 pixels on the long edge, except panoramic photos, which can be up to 5400 pixels wide."
      support.apple.com/en-us/HT202786
      Above is the support article from Apple where they list more detailed information about shared albums. Shared albums is a nice concept, but it will scale every photo resolution down.
      Depending on who you're sharing photos with, Library sharing is could be a better option.

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  3 роки тому

      Hi @ Blrd MP! So really there are only two ways to share the photos....physically with a flash drive/hard drive, or digitally.
      Obviously digital is the way to go, but with that said, you now need to choose a platform for the digital delivery. Apple, Google, Dropbox, Microsoft all have ways to share digital files like photos.
      I would say the easiest thing for you since you have an iPhone and others may or may not have accounts for Google, Microsoft, etc...I would just actually use Apple Shared Photo Albums and share the Public link.
      When you create a public link, it generates a website that viewers are able to look and download all the photos that you've put on the shared album.
      It would follow the steps in this video located at the chapter:
      09:21 | Creating Public Website for Shared Album

    Question from a Joel in Texas. I have created an empty shared album. I would like to import pictures from an existing regular album.. I have already done the work of finding the pictures and getting them sorted. Is it possible to import from an existing (non-shared) album?
    I am in the process of digitizing a table full of 35 mm slides. I have the first 200 or so done. Using these in Photos presents it own set of changes. Lack of time stamps is the first problem. I am using the Kodak Slide n Scan digitizer. it is possible to set a time, but its a pain, very time-consuming. In the Mac version of Photos, there is an option to sort by title, which seems to default to filename. This option is not present in the shared album screens. Since they all have the same time stamp by default, sorting is random. Manually setting time stamps is one way forward. Any ideas?

    Can i share a shared album with a contact on Messenger?

      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому

      Hi @Nathalie Attard! You certainly can share through messenger.
      Usually you would share to someone else's Apple ID, but if you want to send a link, you need to generate one first.
      If you go to the 8:53 minute marker in this same video it will talk about making a Public Website. When you check that box, you want to copy that link and send through messenger.
      ua-cam.com/video/vU0MRfm2utI/v-deo.html
      These public website links don't require the other person to have an Apple ID, so it makes it easy to share with anyone anywhere.
      I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching!

      Hi @Kotees Dupont!
      Videos for sure make it more challenging to share due to their size, but great news, they too can go into an iCloud Photo Shared Album!
      The workflow would be to export out of iMovie to desktop or where ever, and then bring them into Apple Photos and add them into a shared album. The great news is that once their in the shared album, they don't take up space within your iCloud!
      As far as other options, many people use UA-cam, but that gets more inconvenient if you want it to be private. You could do iCloud Drive or Google Drive as well, but iCloud Shared Albums will for sure work!
      Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate the support!

    When you make a shared album (and share only with yourself) and put a photo from the library into the shared album, further remove the photo from the library (also remove in recent deleted photos album) and looking in the shared album then you get the result: you still see the photo in the shared album. Or anyway, that is what people think. Of course people think that, logic…. But the reality is that the photo is a thumbnail. That doesn’t matter, but why Apple makes it so extremely difficult?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому +1

      Apple has a lot of improvement with the concept of sharing photos in my opinion @Patje Kluivert! They could take a few hints from Google in that respect.
      I'm not a fan that when photos are shared, they are reduced to 2048 pixels on the long edge, except panoramic photos, which can be up to 5400 pixels wide. So they're not thumbnails, but it's for sure not the full resolution file!
      I am curious on your workflow...Are you putting photos into shared albums to free up space from your main iCloud storage? or whats the reasoning for putting picture into Shared Photo Album and then deleting out of the library?
      If this is a question on previous comments, I have not gotten to it, but I will!
      Thanks for the continued support!

      @@Learnwithjoel One of the problems is that it seems Apple has forgot something about icloud.
      Apple works with a synchronize icloud system. That is ok. But there are things people can’t do, for example easily remove a photo or different photos from one device, when you do this then (‘caused’ by synchronisation ) the photo will also removed from the other device(s).
      I want work in the photo app in such a way that the photos in the library can be moved to albums. Well-organised. Also the storage will be less when you put photos in shared albums and that can be handy. I have an iphone with 16 GB, so than it is definetely great. Maybe the photo quality is not so good, but i think that difference doesn’t make much sense for many people. You have to look serious to see the difference in quality.
      One of the options people can do is work with different Apple ID’s. One Apple ID per device. Then you can delete a photo easily and also copy or move photos from one device to another.
      Not everybody want work from the library. Most of the people will organize their photos, for example in albums. And sometimes it happened that people want remove different photos. Just a normal thing to do. And then some people don’t want think all the time: oh yeah, the photo shall remove from all the devices.
      When Apple add the possibility to choose for a different system compared to the current system, then people can make a choice that they really want.
      I will always use the Apple photo app, i never use it from Google.
      But i am extremely disappointed in Apple’s way to do the photo management in the photo app.

      Hmmm...so when you're in Photos on your device (I presume iPhone) when you go to the "shared album" section you only see what you post and she only sees what she posts?
      When you're in the shared album itself and you touch the little person icon in the top right, does it show both of you in the settings of the shared album?

    How does the person who received the shared album save the album/photo? What does it look like on their end?

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  3 роки тому

      Hi @Carolyn Wefsenmoe! So on the receiving end of a getting a Shared Photo album, the user will get a notification on their device. If they miss the notification, they will find the invite/request under the "For You" category at the bottom of the Photos App.
      Once you've subscribed and accepted the shared album, you can open the shared photo stream on an iPhone or iPad and select the photo, then touch the little upward arrow share button in the bottom left of the picture and there you'll have an option to "Save Image"
      If you're on a Mac and using Apple Photos, just open the shared photo stream and "right click" on the photo and select "import". That will also add it right to your own personal Photo library.
      Hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the support!

    Thanks for making this video. Do you know how we share the entire contents of a library? We have a child that takes photos and we just want access to them all shared to us in real time. The way you are describing it the albums are all static - if you take additional photos they are not automatically shared and you have to manually add to a shared album. We did turn on icloud storage for their device but even in iCloud I do no see an easy way just to share everything (photos and video) in real time as new photos are taken.

    • @Learnwithjoel
      @Learnwithjoel  2 роки тому

      You're very welcome @Bob Ray! Unfortunately as of right now, there is no way to share the entire library per your scenario. I'm really hoping that Apple introduces some type of Family sharing that allows family and friends to do sharing in real time like Google does, but it's not here. Fingers crossed for next big macOS!
      These shared photo albums are a step in the right direction for Apple, but for sure has room for improvement!
      Now if you wanted to incorporate another service like Google Photos, you could do that, but depending on what devices you're syncing and how much storage you need, this may or may not work. I actually have another video that describes and shows examples of how all they could work together. I'll link below for reference:

    I can create shared albums but my friends did not receive the invitations. I’m not sure if the issue is my iCloud account or my backup.
    My iPhone is working well because I used mom’s iCloud account in my phone and shared albums work

      Hi @Arturo Velez! I have seen weird things like that where the invitation don't show up for a day or two. There never seems to be a rhyme or reason to it either.
      So I'd for sure sign out of your mom's iCloud on your device and sign back in with your account...
      What happens if you send an invite to your mom's account? Do she get it?
      Are you sending the invites to the actual iCloud/Apple ID account or are you sending it to the cell phone number associated with it? The invites usually show up in the "For You" section in the Photos App on an Apple device. Double check everyone has the "Shared Albums" turned on in the photo settings.
      I know that's probably not the best answer, but let me know if you've checked all that!
