Well to be fair it's just a junk that was made by someone famous. An LV that was made recently like 5-10 years ago, sold out, loved and used much more because of its beautiful design would cost much more. Because it's practical piece of art. Not like this ugly squary thing.
@@jaywoods4066 omg I’m so sorry I never saw your question! Now I can’t even remember how much it was but it was a great price. I didn’t see this until the guy below you replied. Sorry 😞
I think we all thought it would be worth more. But at the end of the day, it is merely a wooden box. It is not a finely crafted item like a watch or automaton. Also you need lots of space for this box in your home. So I do see that it isn't super valuable unless you need it for your motif.
I’ve noticed a lot of the appraisers on the USA Antiques roadshow are British, I wonder why that is? I’m an avid fan of the UK show and have rarely missed a show in its 30+ year history, it’s such an educating and interesting series.
Saw one of these at the LV store in Newport Beach, CA. They had it in its own case and said it was "priceless" and said it was worth the most in the whole store. Kinda weird since he let us hold (without gloves too) two purses worth $53k EACH!!!
1) What condition was it in 2) Was it significant in any way the first of its series or once owned by someone of historical importance These play a major role in determining the value of these items

It's funny that guy works at an antique store in Lambertville, about 25 years ago I saw an LV trunk in a store there. Wasn't near as expensive & I don't like the check bags.
130 years old Louis Vuitton trunk still with the original labels in and outside in remarkably good condition for 10k? I am not specialist but isnt that a bit low estimate?
I can spot a Louis Vuitton a mile away. The only designer I indulge in. I have picked up a few battered pieces in thrift stores and sent them off to a repair shop in New Jersey who restores designer pieces.

These are more common than you'd think. Steamer trunks were really built to last, so unless you really abuse them they don't fall apart. People tend to keep them around because they're useful. Most people who could afford Louis Vuitton back in ye olde day had very large suites of them as well. Mostly trunks like this are desirable as coffee tables.
I think the “low” price is because of the size of the trunk (besides its condition of course). Nobody has space for such items anymore but if it was standard size luggage the price would be a lot higher.
I'm not sure it is about such space anymore. We have easier options to send clothes and possessions by delivery or in our cars. Back then it was horses and actual ships for travel. There were trains, but there was no easy call to have things shipped as it is now. We likely need that much space. It is simply spread out differently for us.
I used to do visual merchandising for a store here in Denver and they had an old LV trunk with a striped canvas exterior. Unfortunately, it was in really sorry shape. The wood braces were rotting and split and the interior was in complete shambles but hey, it's still LV! It also had the large interior label, too. I should've just taken it when I had the chance. That store was eventually closed and God only knows what happened to that ol relic. Hopefully someone snagged it. Regardless of it's condition, I just can't picture putting it in the trash. 🗑️ When I retire, imma go work in a lv shop somewhere.
I think the antique market of collectibles is weird in ways, because on one hand people in the market say something un-restored is better calling it a Survivor then other times restored is more valuable I guess it's a hit or miss thing
