@@tonkinjeezus6626 the reason we play as the villain is to show the duality of the story. Revenge arcs arent cut and dry and this puts that into sharp relief. Abby's motivations for killing Joel, while they put her at odds with what we want, is basically the same revenge arc we embark on in order to avenge somebody. Then Ellie, Tommy, and Jesse kill all her friends and the people that were close to her. Taking up the role as antagonist is a divisive storytelling device, but it keeps this from being a dime a dozen revenge arc that we've seen hundreds of times throughout various media.
It's not supposed to make you feel happy or bad. It gives you another view of what happened. To show you that everyone is right from their own perspective. If you can't notice and appreciate it, you don't deserve to play this game.

He went to Seattle purely out of the need for revenge, just as Ellie did. All the things they both end up losing is a result of the destructive path revenge takes a person on, showing that it is a depressing way to move forward that will leave you worse off than before

Or of joel didn't die in the beginning but in the middle as both sides start to realize. But all we got was fans wanting to finish off the antagonist but left not doing that

Okay everyone let’s regroup here. Ellie lived in Jackson with Joel and they never went on patrol that day because of the storm. Abby and friends tried to get into Jackson but failed greatly. They now are all dead. They are all happily ever after.

The scene makes more sense when you think of it that way.

They shouldve killed Tommy at the beginning instead of Joel. Joel still gets shot in the leg but someone stops Abby from fully killing him. Then its Joel and Ellie hunting Abby down throughout the game. At the end they kill Abby but Joel gets fatally injured and dies too. A fitting death. Thats how it should have been.

The fact that I had to try and kill Ellie while playing Abby broke me. I didn’t want to do it. While fighting Ellie, I just wanted her to kill me to get Abby killed and over and done with, but the game won’t let you do that. It was heartbreaking that I was forced to fight her. Ellie means to much to me and that fight shattered me and I hated that.

I seriously don't understand how people think you're supposed to root for Abby in this game. Just because you play as a character doesn't mean you have to be on their side. In fact the scene where you run after Ellie makes this very clear bc it's obvious in the gameplay that the game knows you don't want to do it

I'd say the opposite is true to the point you're trying to make. Nobody expects any forgiveness because it's a revenge arc on both ends, but that is what ends up happening and the endless number of people whining about it just don't get why it's poignant or realistic.

surprisingly enough, a lot of people tend to survive headshots, the skull is stronger than you think, he was shot with a Berreta M9 which uses 9mm bullets, and the bullet came at an angle, which could have had it easily bounce off. I mean, he still got pretty damn lucky that he was only semi-paralyzed afterwards, but it's very possible. Some of the enemies in the game can actually randomly survive a headshot from smaller calibers

ITS A GAME you shouldnt just leave players unsatisfied after killing their favorite characters. imagine in rdr 2 you have to play as micah for the epilouge and kill john and sadie adler and then you finnaly play as john you beat micah and you just let micah go..... the whole thing is then for nothing.
My favorite part was when they had the least liked character kill two of the most liked characters and then the game forces you to play as the least liked character to hunt one of the last good characters, not awful at all.

the gameplay is worth it, the story is actually decent if you sit through the entire thing, the problem is the pacing of the Abby story, they make you play as her for 14 hours straight right after a cliffhanger. if the story was structured differently the game would be an 9/10 for me, now it's like a 7
There's something major everyone is missing here. It's what the creator said too; "the first part was about love. The second is going to be about hate." Death isn't glorious. Joel went the way people go. The rampage Ellie goes on, and how she finally escapes it at the end- that's what the game shows- that Joel raised Ellie to be better than that. The game isn't bad; its just that its not easy.

How the hell did tommy survive this head shot? He was severely wounded, how did he make it back to Jackson in this condition??? I don't think Ellie just called an ambulance to save Tommy. He would have bled to death.
I don’t understand how Tommy is still alive after all his injuries, man got shot in the head and he can still think and do things properly. He also got an arrow to the leg, and got his eye smashed up. If a part 3 comes out, he will most likely be fully recovered. If he can manage all that, he’s definitely Joel’s brother. His durability just might even be higher then Joel’s, even though Joel got a medal bar through his stomach although it’s debatable.
what bothered me is that ellie went against dina’s wishes & ruined their relationship, all to find abby & then NOT keep the promise she made to tommy? so in this ending, she literally ruins every single relationship she had while not even gaining the slightest bit of closure, she doesn’t kill abby, she loses everyone, & abby bit her fingers so she can’t even play her & joels guitar part properly. i understand what the devs were trying to do with emotions in this game & how not every ending is perfect but god damn, everything about ellie’s decisions & how the choices progress is horrible. like the whole “revenge is bad” plot point is thrown out the window once you remember that ellie ran through a whole army to get to abby & abby did malicious ass activities the whole game, especially responding “good.” in reaction to almost murdering a PREGNANT WOMAN. this game could’ve been special, but i feel like it shot its darts at the wall & not the board.

@@tonkinjeezus6626 the reason we play as the villain is to show the duality of the story. Revenge arcs arent cut and dry and this puts that into sharp relief. Abby's motivations for killing Joel, while they put her at odds with what we want, is basically the same revenge arc we embark on in order to avenge somebody. Then Ellie, Tommy, and Jesse kill all her friends and the people that were close to her. Taking up the role as antagonist is a divisive storytelling device, but it keeps this from being a dime a dozen revenge arc that we've seen hundreds of times throughout various media.
The point is there isn’t a “villain” and a “hero” - everyone in the game is a fucking monster - but it’s justified for all of them.
It's not supposed to make you feel happy or bad. It gives you another view of what happened. To show you that everyone is right from their own perspective. If you can't notice and appreciate it, you don't deserve to play this game.
Someone tried to tell me tommy was the selfish one in this game. I'm like, so we really gonna ignore that tommy was left crippled state and lost his wife because he didn't want ellie to take all of this alone by herself. Gosh this game doesn't make sense

Or of joel didn't die in the beginning but in the middle as both sides start to realize. But all we got was fans wanting to finish off the antagonist but left not doing that

Then its Joel and Ellie hunting Abby down throughout the game.
At the end they kill Abby but Joel gets fatally injured and dies too. A fitting death.

The fact that I had to try and kill Ellie while playing Abby broke me. I didn’t want to do it. While fighting Ellie, I just wanted her to kill me to get Abby killed and over and done with, but the game won’t let you do that. It was heartbreaking that I was forced to fight her. Ellie means to much to me and that fight shattered me and I hated that.

I seriously don't understand how people think you're supposed to root for Abby in this game. Just because you play as a character doesn't mean you have to be on their side. In fact the scene where you run after Ellie makes this very clear bc it's obvious in the gameplay that the game knows you don't want to do it

Bruh you really expect Ellie to let her go and live with that after that? Completely unrealistic and dumb. Everyone “wishes” people were forgiving yes, but that’s not always what realistically happens with humans, especially in these circumstances.

I don't like how it happened either, but you can't say that Abby didn't have her own revenge arc going. Also Abby spares Ellie twice, a pregnant Dina once (big assist from Lev in that but she's still alive regardless) and spares Tommy twice, once on purpose once by accident. I'd say the opposite is true to the point you're trying to make. Nobody expects any forgiveness because it's a revenge arc on both ends, but that is what ends up happening and the endless number of people whining about it just don't get why it's poignant or realistic.

I think people are sleeping on the fact that it was Lev that stayed Abby's hand when she was going to kill Dina. Ellie remembers that and doesn't want to leave her with nobody because she saved Dina and that's all killing Abby would ultimately accomplish.

I have absolutely no idea how Tommy got shot point blank in the face and ended up surviving that baffled me
surprisingly enough, a lot of people tend to survive headshots, the skull is stronger than you think, he was shot with a Berreta M9 which uses 9mm bullets, and the bullet came at an angle, which could have had it easily bounce off.
I mean, he still got pretty damn lucky that he was only semi-paralyzed afterwards, but it's very possible. Some of the enemies in the game can actually randomly survive a headshot from smaller calibers

I don't understand how people are mad at these deathscenes. It's realistic and makes it unsettling. Jesse's abrupt death and Abby straight up shooting Tommy in the back of the head is crazy heart breaking.

ITS A GAME you shouldnt just leave players unsatisfied after killing their favorite characters. imagine in rdr 2 you have to play as micah for the epilouge and kill john and sadie adler and then you finnaly play as john you beat micah and you just let micah go..... the whole thing is then for nothing.

My favorite part was when they had the least liked character kill two of the most liked characters and then the game forces you to play as the least liked character to hunt one of the last good characters, not awful at all.
They should of had something like Detroit Become Human, you get to choose to play as Abby or Ellie and kill whoever you want.

the gameplay is worth it, the story is actually decent if you sit through the entire thing, the problem is the pacing of the Abby story, they make you play as her for 14 hours straight right after a cliffhanger. if the story was structured differently the game would be an 9/10 for me, now it's like a 7

I don’t understand how Tommy is still alive after all his injuries, man got shot in the head and he can still think and do things properly. He also got an arrow to the leg, and got his eye smashed up. If a part 3 comes out, he will most likely be fully recovered. If he can manage all that, he’s definitely Joel’s brother. His durability just might even be higher then Joel’s, even though Joel got a medal bar through his stomach although it’s debatable.
what bothered me is that ellie went against dina’s wishes & ruined their relationship, all to find abby & then NOT keep the promise she made to tommy?
so in this ending, she literally ruins every single relationship she had while not even gaining the slightest bit of closure, she doesn’t kill abby, she loses everyone, & abby bit her fingers so she can’t even play her & joels guitar part properly.
i understand what the devs were trying to do with emotions in this game & how not every ending is perfect but god damn, everything about ellie’s decisions & how the choices progress is horrible.
like the whole “revenge is bad” plot point is thrown out the window once you remember that ellie ran through a whole army to get to abby & abby did malicious ass activities the whole game, especially responding “good.” in reaction to almost murdering a PREGNANT WOMAN.
