Where do you find the user manual for the modem that explains all the physical features? Telstra only provides 'Getting started on the NBN' which isn't a proper manual
Please note that this video is not doing a fair comparision at one point, all the modems Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3 is compared with at 1:56 are Wifi 5 modems, Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3 is a Wifi 6 modem.
hum just joined Telstra and got one of these. I live in a unit FTTP box in 1 bedroom and tv in the lounge struggles and nonstop buffering. My friend lives across the road on Optus and I can pick his up NP. Lucky for me I have an 11000 Tplink and had to hook it up to the Telstra box and now the tv has NP.:( Maybe I need to change setting or somethings but can;t find any guides.
If speed is so important why did they pick a modem that downgrades USB from 3 on gen 2 back down to USB 2 on Gen 3? The reality is the Gen 2 was plenty fast even for streaming 4k.
I work in the telecommunications, and this is known as a low-grade product. This generation 3 version WiFi has faster speeds, but Telstra downgraded the USB port to USB 2.0, and tests show it also has high latency. It also has a high failure rate with product dying randomly - likely due to poor quality build. The user interface is really locked down so it's very difficult to tune it. If you are unhappy with the Smart Modem 3 look at the Netgear Nighthawk range.

And who wants to spend 500 on a new modem on top of the plan they already have?
I notice you didn't review the software that comes with the modem to configure it. Have you tried using it? It's a completely unusable shit show.
