    This is the best m54 to m50 manifold video.

    E36 m3 euro 3.5” intake boot works perfectly as well as 2001 Volvo S80 injectors they flow just over stock b30 injectors but have the correct spray pattern

    • @buildabeemer

      @@wannabezhp we have tuned the ECU. But it’s hard to say what the effect would be with JUST the intake manifold. We have a lot of mods (CAI, M50 intake, different injectors, S50 branches, custom exhaust), so tuning was a must.

      does b30 injectors have unsymetrical spray pattern?

    • @buildabeemer
      @buildabeemer  3 роки тому

      @@patrykkowalski6 yes, they do, due to the design of the intake and the angle of the injectors relative to the ports. But the di still seem to run fine in an M50 manifold.

      So the E36 M3 euro intake boot works to connect the factory E46 M54 airbox to the M50 manifold with M54 throttle body?

    The M50 manifold swap is famous for easy gains on the M52 motors, but thats because they share the same cylinder head, so the M52 heads were port matched perfectly to the M50 manifold! Hence you could gain 20-30hp from the swap. Im curious as to how well this works because, while the manifold is clearly much larger, the head ports on the M54 are matched to the much smaller M54 manifold, so it's sort of creating the exact opposite scenario as with the M52. The bottle neck is then the cylinder head its self (unless you get it ported).

    • @buildabeemer
      @buildabeemer  3 роки тому

      The port matching is less significant in the overall scheme of things, as the M50 manifold allows far less restriction to airflow at high rpm than the M54. You are however correct that the M54 head is extremely flow limited, and you cannot realise any gains unless you tweat Vanos timing as well as fuel and ignition.

    One thing that isn't clear in any swap M50 intake on M54 videos is that isn't explained where the vacuum hose exactly need to be attched. M50 has FRP pipe directly in the intake. M54 have the FRP pipe that comes from fuel filter into an "F" plastic between throttle and MAF. So totally different vacuum behaivour. So where is the correct location of FRP pipe on this intake swap?

    Awesome video very helpful! Did you make a video on what to do with the rest of the vacuum lines and purge valve etc that’s under the m54 manifold that won’t be used? I’m doing the conversion and I’m pretty stuck there.

    • @buildabeemer
      @buildabeemer  4 роки тому +2

      I’ll try and do a video. In short, the only lines you are going to use are the fuel pressure regulator line (connects onto the small nipple at the back of the M50 manifold), the brake booster vacuum line (connects to big nipple to the right of the throttle body) and the ICV (plugs into the hole on the underside). The vacuum line from the ICV connects to the TB boot on the underside. If you have 2 ports plug the 2nd one.

    You mentioned drive ability being slightly impaired with this conversion, can you give a detail on that? I want to do this for my daily 530i E60 which I know gas some sort of vacuum leak underneath, but I'd like for the car to just drive like it supposed to. I'm not even interested in increased power, just better that how it's driving now. Thanks

    So does the m50 cylinder head have bigger ports,
    If so wouldn't grinding the m54 head too match be an idea?,
    Is m50 duel vanos?
    what's stopping us putting m50 head on with the ports to match

  • @sr20dett1000

    If I don't want to do a catch can. I could route it like the s52 us spec do the conversion. Also the m50 does not use a ccv but a pcv.

    Ive got a question that maybe you can help with. I'm installing the M50 on my M52TUB28 E46. The throttle body is different from the M52 on the E36s and need to be mounted vertically up or down. I've searched high and low, but can't find where a good place would be to run the throttle cable. Thanks.

    hello and what to do with the disa valve? and as with flexibility in the lower revolutions?

    • @buildabeemer
      @buildabeemer  3 роки тому

      Disa valve goes on the shelf 🥸. For a race car you never have the engine speed below mid range, so we can afford to sacrifice some flexibility. But in reality the car is now about 400kg lighter than standard, and we don’t feel any lack of punch in the mid and low rpm range.

    Great Video! what did you do for the purge solenoid and all of the other vacuum lines??

    • @buildabeemer
      @buildabeemer  4 роки тому +4

      E46 Maniac - we removed the purge solenoid and “charcoal canister”. The only vacuum port that is still utilised is that for the brake booster. We programmed out the DTC’s related to the purge solenoid & DISA using RomRaider ECU Editor / TunerPro.

    • @soundseeker63
      @soundseeker63 3 роки тому

      No point on the B25, the stock manifold doesn't choke it at high revs so much as the 3.0L. Incidentally, you can "upgrade" to the M54B30 manifold but it's only a small improvement, maybe around 4 or 5hp, so probably not worth the effort.

    • @sr20dett1000

      I would say yes. If you want to keep your ccv it must be routed like the s52 us spec do the conversion. The loss in torque can be tune out. I have a later version m54 were my AIT sensor is built in the maf.

      Yup. The assumption that there is a significant drop in mid-range torque is not borne out by our dyno charts or our butt dyno. I do think there will be a fuel efficiency penalty though.

    Bonjour, pas besoin de reprogrammer l'ECU ?

    • @buildabeemer
      @buildabeemer  3 роки тому +1

      Salut, oui, vous devez reprogrammer pour obtenir la puissance accrue. Le collecteur M50 permettra à plus d'air de circuler à des régimes moteur élevés, nous devons donc ajouter plus de carburant et l'avance à l'allumage.
