Ice T did say that when he was invited to do his part, he received a tape of which song and when he would do his lyrics/bars. Although he didn’t pick the song, he knew what song and when his part would be ahead of the Grammys, to be prepared. So it’s not unreasonable to presume all artist featured would have received the same heads up, in order to make the collaboration, fluid and successful.
Another thing is, “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” is a GETO BOYS (group) song. Quest didn’t ask Ice T to perform a group (Body Count) song. So he was in no position to perform without Earnie C ( lead guitarist). I’m sure if there was a tribute to heavy metal bands, Ernie C would feel some type of way if Ice T performed (sang) a Body Count song without Ernie C or any other band member on stage with him. Willie D was part of the “BIG 3” members that are best known by most fans to be the GETO BOYS.
Quest know how the industry works. He so mainstream now he can’t see the trees through forest. He gonna do exactly what his money masters demand of him to stay in the “House”. Yeah, this info provides all the context needed. There's no "bad guy" between Willie and Face. Face could've been more upfront, and told Willie he was performing, not just attending the Grammys. That's more transparent. Hard to speak on this, because outside of doing that podcast, I don't know if Willie and Face are really friends like that.

It wouldn't have changed anything even if he did told him he was performing. They called Scarface and as far as he knew they wanted Scarface to perform his song. He didn't find out what he was performing until he got there.

I think Scarface should have called Willie they have done a podcast or YT channel together. Just a courtesy of a call. No matter what. If you ever been on stage, you know they'll switch up the play at any time. Face probably wouldn't perform if something else went on.
