I AM 71 YEARS OLD AND MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY 4 yrs and 5 mos. AGO. WE NEARLY MADE IT TO OUR 49 th. ANNIVERSARY. I HAVE BEEN JUST TOTALLY DISINTERESTED IN ANYTHING. SO FINALLY I DECIDED TO TRY MY HAND AT DRAWING & PAINTING AGAIN, I WAS ALWAYS FAIRLY GOOD IN ART. HOWEVER A LOT HAS CHANGED SINCE I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, PRODUCTS SUCH AS PAPER/PENCILS, ETC.. I DID LEARN SOME THINGS WHILE I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO TODAY, BECAUSE TRYING TO USE COLORED PENCILS HAS ABOUT STRESSED ME OUT TRYING TO GET THEM TO BLEND. THANK YOU FOR SHARING. GOD BLESS YOU. 😄 SHIRLEY FROM TEXAS, USA.🗽🌊🌹🌸 HELLO FROM MY 2 CATS ALSO😹🐾😻🐾🐾🌸
Sorry to hear about your husband Shirley. I'm glad to know you're getting back into art and my videos are helping. I have only been to Texas once, in the airport only waiting for a connecting flight. I'd love to visit properly someday, maybe when I win the lotto! ❤️
shirley a bolton I’m sorry to hear about your husband. I can only imagine how hard that must be. Sending lots of love to you! Hope you’re enjoying your drawing.
49 years!!! You know you could have got out of it. I'm joking, that is such an accomplishment that is fading in the horizon of the future of our YUTES these days. Sorry to hear about your best friend just remember it's not forever, it's just good-bye.
I've watched a few "blending" videos out of curiosity as I'm new to colored pencils, but have 70 years of experience with art. I was doing my second mandala the other day and found myself doing the burnishing technique because that is how I learned to blend paint. I really liked the results and thought, "But, that's not how the videos told me to do it." Thanks. This is very helpful.
This is one of the most informative and useful video I've ever watched. I've been colouring for years, but watching this made me realise I knew nothing 😂 Honestly this is gonna up my game so much. Thank you so much! I appreciate your time, knowledge, and experience.
Polychromos aren't the most vivid colours out there, however if you use the right paper and the right technic, you can get great finished results, that will hide that issue!
First off, this is probably one of the best tutorials on blending that I have seen. I tend to blend with all methods, though I will sometimes use my lightest color in the blend in place of the white. It really depends on what I am coloring. Another thing that I do, when blending with white/lightest color, is to color a light layer over the area to brighten up the color. I learned that from another UA-camr. I thank you for this tutorial & look forward to more!
Thank you for this very helpful explanation on blending wax pencils and blending oil pencils. You didn't rush! You explained each step and I am finally able to understand WHY the need for wax and oil pencils. I love it! I can better understand what and why when looking at other colorists' art. I can experiment on my own with these techniques and I'm more likely to get the look I want. Thank you for. Opening the door for me!
My favorite is burnishing. I absolutely love that technique, but now I understand the difference between the Prismacolors and Polychromos. You made it so simple. I also use a blender pencil and Vasaline. I experiment a lot and have been coloring for about a year, and my pages are getting better and better.
I’m glad you did this video as my fingers dislocate every day due to my genetic condition, so it’s good to see I can use other ways to colour on those days 😊 Thank you for this and I love your channel, it’s good for me to get lost colouring and watching your videos as a distraction to the pain 😊👍🏻
Shini Kami I’m so sorry your condition is so painful. My neuropathy affects my mobility in trying to walk (and sometimes coloring), but blessed that it’s mainly numbness and not pain. I won’t complain ( even silently) about having to use my trekking poles for balance today. You’re a good influence👍
SherieK unfortunately I know how you feel as all of my joints dislocate so I use a wheelchair or crutches. I’m sorry you have difficulty too (I know how bad it can make you feel). Everyone has valid issues and everyone deals with it differently, I just try to do my best with what I’ve been given (as I’m sure you do too). I can’t imagine what you go through but Complain away about using you’re poles, if that’s what you want to do (we are all entitled to our complaints especially about health issues lol) I hope that you’re having a good day today though 😊
Thank you so much for going through that entire process, Claire. So very helpful for me as a novice, but very much wannabe. Especially helpful was learning to use that light touch to such remarkable effect. Looking forward to learning much from you! 🌸🌺🌼
Hi. I have just watched this video and found it very useful. I have recently got into colouring and my efforts looked like a 4 year old. I have have a few mental health issues and recently discovered that colouring in is a great way to relax and find peace. I have watched a few videos and still found myself lost. This video was very informative a d has given me hope. I am still, confused with the wax pencils and oil ones but I suppose that will come. Tha is for explaining in easy to following steps as my illness struggles at time. I am on a very strict budget and your advice is very helpful. Thanks for helping me in finding out how to colour in with dignity.
Hot pressed watercolor paper, 100% cotton, and Strathmore 500 series Bristol Vellum are both excellent surfaces for colored pencil. A,so, Canson Mi-Teintes pastel paper, on the smoother of the two sides is great for pencil.
Fabriano Artistico Hotpressed watercolour (Extra White) : Best for Polychromos and Legion Stonehenge Hotpressed watercolour paper: As a second choice, (if you can't get the Fabriano Artistico) These 2 papers are the BEST! Next, for people who like more vivid colours, doing some comics maybe? Then the Arches Hotpress Aquarelle is another grea quality paper. I'd risk to add the Winsor & Newton and why not the Hahnemuhle paper, but I haven't personaly tried these, both great quality though!
yes techniques are explained very clearly ..and the fact that you are not promoting any products /brands or techniques over others is refreshing ...excellent
There are a lot of technique videos out there, but for me personally this is perfect for my current needs. I've been coloring for a while but don't grab for my pencils too often. This is a great refresher for me on the different methods and techniques for each type of pencil.
I'm new to adult coloring and was a bit overwhelmed by the difference on how to blend oil vs wax. This video was so very helpful and easy to follow that I am actually starting to color rather than collect art supplies. It was so very informative! Keep up.the amazing job and thank you for all of the hard work and dedication that you place into your wonderful channel. It is greatly appreciated! 🎨💕🐱
As someone who knows next to nothing about coloring with pencils, this video was so helpful! Thank you for taking the time to explain how this works. I've been trying to incorporate colored pencils with my Zentangles and have been kind of frustrated with the results, but now I have a better idea of how to approach things for the result I'm trying to achieve.
I’ve got the pablo pencils from Caran d’Ache and I just learned that they are oil based pencils. Thanks to your vid I now know that I was doing my colouring wrong all the time! Layering is the thing to get the colours deeper! Thank you so much for sharing!
I am a newbie 😌 thank you. I started doing coloring in adult books. I was doing it as a child. Well thank everyone for the videos. I am saving the ones I really like. I can't believe how I have improved. Yours is one I saved and subscribed to. Thank you
I learned so much from you. I am 76 years old, and in August 22,2022, I fell in my home. I had a brain bleed and had surgery. I am recovering. My physical therapist suggests coloring in adult coloring books. It has been very exciting and helpful in my using my hands. I am so happy I watched your lesson. I am going to try the Oil Based pencils. I have the wax Prismacolor premier and do not like them. I want my coloring to have somewhat of a professional look. Again thank you
@ColourwithClaire I have only one question today? When you first start with laying down your colors, do you go from the first lightest to the medium color, to the darkest color, then blend
I know this is over a year old but i am so glad that i was able to find this. I am 52 and i guess a very late comer to the world of adult colouring /drawing etc. I was lucky enough to get a swet of polychromos a couple of years ago , I have only used them on and off doing * gems* as i am too frightened of using them in a adult colouring book for fear of * making a mistake* and ruining the book. After watching how you blend the poly i now know how to do it better than what i was doing it before. I guess because my gems were small i was just using a blender pencil and that worked wonders but i am now going to try and just do it using the layering. Also i need to find better paper as well hehehe. Thanks again this help newcommers like me soo much
So glad I found this video! I am that person who was trying to follow a Prismacolor tutorial using Polychromos pencils and struggling to understand why they weren’t blending in the same way. Now I know ☺️ Thank you so much ♥️
Thank you , Claire, this tutorial is very helpful in blending correctly. I appreciate your clear use of the methods for blending. Thanks so much, Claire.
Hi Claire 💖 I am lucky enough to have been in this community for many years, watching your videos. I have learned so much from you and others but your blending method is my favorite, using mineral spirits or o.m.s. It’s just so much easier on my hands and it’s quicker. Whenever your older blending videos pop up I have to watch them because it’s kind of like magic to watch! So thank you very much for not only your blending tutorials but all of your stunning tutorials! I am sorry for rambling, I am so tired! 💖
Oh thank god!! After nearly thirty years using water colour pencils I accidentally bought a very inexpensive set of one hundred and sixty oil pencils!! Ive never used them before & have discovered they have totally different qualities to water colours & I seem unable to blend them as I am accustomed. I found this tutorial so informative & educational!! THANKYOU! Now I know it is a more laborious, time consuming exercise that requires patience & a gentle, persistent touch. I shall uitlise everything you showed. I'm so grateful! Also now understand that using water colour paper is not right & I'll have to go explore at the local art shop.
My favorite is burnishing. I love my Polychromos. Then again, I love all my pencils. Each brand has its own personality, and depending what I color, I will choose one brand over another. Thank you for this video, Claire!
@@linesymons9488 I bought those Holbein pastels last December in Japan. They're the same consistency as the Polychromos so it takes a while to blend but man, they're a marvel to look at.
I am so glad to have found your channel. I have been puzzled as to why I was not getting success with my colored pencils and you have solved my problems. Thank you for this video.
I have only 2 days of experience with colored pencils! I am so lucky to have found this video! EXCELLENT!!!!!!! I am so excited about trying these blending techniques!!!!
I’m new to colored pencils and coloring books as an adult. I am trying to quit smoking and thought this (Adult coloring) would be perfect for keeping my hands busy. I’ve played around with gel pens and although I love it and can blend a little I think colored pencils are the way to go for my skill level (or lack there of lol). I have watched many many many videos on blending but….I have found your video to be the absolute best at least for beginners like me! I am about to go practice right now. I’m so excited!
One of the best tutorials I have come across. In other video they talking as if u know what certain things are but you don't you explain for very new beginners like me who don't know these words etc. Thank u u have helped me massively ❤
Thank you I needed this information for my high school senior portfolio, currently working on a Bouquet of flowers drawing and I knew little to nothing about how colored pencils worked, it wasn’t really my strongest skill in art but not anymore thanks to you Claire ! 💜💐
I'll tell you what's been done: you dissolved the wax with the mineral spirits and the pigment fell to the bottom. Your second layer of pencil is skating across a layer of clear wax that has flattened itself. The wax only dissolved and melted a bit with the solvent but it didn't actually get rid of the wax. Your second layer is "painted" over that clear wax layer. Using that transparent layer to your advantage means you can really make your colours pop; especially if you varnish with a top clear layer (varnish, resin, glass, whatever). Any unevaporated spirit left on the first layer will pull more colour off your pencil too. Having said this, I see why it works but I haven't used this method yet so thank you for the video. I look forward to trying a colour pop effect with it. 😁
Wow! Thank you very much for this tutorial 😊! I am not an artist but I love scrapbooking and crafting. I've been wanting to start coloring stamped images with colored pencils. This is absolutely wonderful and I hope I can follow your tips and achieve nice blended colors. Thanks again. 😊
I was really excited watching your video: I have both prismas and polys as the most often colored pencils In my stash. I’ve watched many, many UA-cam videos, and your video is the absolute best teaching video for blending that I’ve seen ... I can’t wait to experiment. I very rarely blend to this degree in the detailed coloring books that I prefer. There’s not enough payback between time effort, and effect for me. Maybe a 3 color blend in my Johanna Bassford books here and there. But that’s about it. I haven’t seen anyone mention the Walnut Hollow oil based pencils. I bought them several years ago for coloring on wood, but they do a nice job on coloring book paper too. Perhaps, they aren’t available any more. Also, I wonder how the Verithin Prismas wii work compared to the regular Prismas in small areas of coloring bookks. A little dab of color and a dab of OMS applied with is small paintbrush in the tiny areas sounds like great fun. Thank you for your wonderful video! I learned a lot, and I Will be using my OMS for the first time. 🤗
First time watching Claire and I am so very happy I did! I was a Prismacolor junkie (and nowhere near expert but did like the tortillion/oderless blender method) and had no idea one could achieve these different seamless colour blends...WOW! I now have a set of Polychromos pencils which I have been struggling with, your video could not have been more timely LOL I am inspired, thank you Claire 👏 Liked and subscribed ❤️
I am a beginner colourist and found your blending techniques very useful. You have also made me want to try the faber castelles that we can also get as open stock form our local hobbycraft store as I have found out today. But seeing the way you built up the layers has made me very much want to try them out and hopefully they will be the pencils I want to use as I learn to draw and design my own designs. Thank you Claire so far I am loving everything that you show us.
Thank you sooooooooooo much for this video❣❣❣❣❣❣❣❣ I have spent 2 days looking for this comparison before I buy a big set of either. I'm a painter, but colored pencils have intrigued me lately. So thank you for this explanation! Your the best😘
Really thorough tutorial, thank you!! I've got a bit of arthritis and carpal tunnel so have steered away from my beloved colored pencils lately. Your demo of oms gave me an aha! Much less pressure so less pain!! Additionally, you are right again-on the oil based pencils. Just never could understand what the draw was. Now I can dig them out and have another go, bearing in mind "light touch + layers". Many thanks.🧡🧡🧡
Outstanding lesson, tips and examples!! I was using my Soho pencils, a hard wax version from Austria. I avoided using them for years until I learned about different surfaces, pressures and techniques. Same with watercolor pencils, and inktense, each has a learning curve, and using them together amps up the results. Brilliant explanation and demonstration. I use opt with a blending stump and a bit of sandpaper or a nail file smooth grit to clean it for blending a new area. I really like the blender pencils as well. My current paper fave is Borden & Riley #234 paper for pens, as I use more pens for zentamgle tiles, and the smoother surface is easier on fine nibs and felt nib brush pens. And, layering on virtually 'toothless' paper limits my pencil coloring results enough that I had to quit being frustrated. Using more traditional 140# cold press tiles ruined nibs so fast even as the pencils results improved. I compromise with 140# hot press paper and even the inktense half pan palettes results are brighter. So much to learn, and your reminder to look for a la carte pieces and experiment to feel and find what is most pleasing is spot on. I'm so thrilled i found your channel.
Thank you so much for showing the 2nd method and mentioning that it's easier for people with limited hand/pressure ability! My hands are paralyzed (left hand I had surgery on to get limited pinch/grip/extension and right hand is no functioning pinch/grip/extension). I was always dominant right hand but after surgery on left I became ambidextrous but I've had to learn over the past few years how to color, draw, etc with both because the splint I used to hold pens/pencils etc for over 20 years of paralysis was discontinued and mine broke where it holds the pens/pencils. Certain times I didn't use the splint but when I needed hard lines or pressure I always used the splint in my dominant right hand. Now I've been using left hand more than ever. Not as challenging as I thought it would be. But this is the first aid only video I've ever seen to mention about ability in hands. I've taught myself to do alot on my own but recently bought oil pencils and I've looking for videos on blending. My first oil pencil coloring didn't blend well. Although I've gotten better in the few weeks of using them. I'm still looking for guidance on blending colors because I'm about to do a deer which has colors from yellow to browns with a few hints of reddish brown, orange brown etc. I just don't want to mess up because it's a Christmas gift for my brother
This has been a very informative video for me. Although I've been into art off and on most of my life, I never knew these techniques. I love to draw but have never bonded with colored pencils as a exciting medium. With these simple techniques their is a lot of room for playing .
I'm very new to adult colouring and to be honest, blending has been a bit of an enigma. But you've explained it all so clearly, with such a concise demonstration, that I don't feel so bamboozled now. This is by far the best video I've watched about blending and for the first time, I really understand what to do.
I was having trouble going from Prismas to Polychromos. Now I know that I was using them wrong. Thank you for your explanation and demonstration. I think coloring will be fun again. ✌🏼️🖍 ♥️
amazing video , i finally have my answers ! i know was i was frustrated with oil based pencil ,i made too much presure , i wasn't patient and hardly understand how to use correctly blender, i think i might begin or at least try wax based pencil but i know that oil pencils aren't bad at all ! and i'm finally aware that they are oil and what it means !! i'm really gratefull for this video only wish i would find it earlier ... thank you so much !
I studied art in college (Illustration and Graphic Design) but the instructors were so brutal that I’ve hardly drawn in 40 years. Very sad, as I was always sketching before. Anyways, I’m retiring soon (I ended up working in finance) and have decided to finally start again. I was always great with graphite or pen and ink but not colour. So I’ve bought some colouring books to practice - particularly flesh tones as I love portraiture. Once I feel I’m ready, I’ll begin filling the sketchbooks I’ve bought. I decided to buy oil-based pencil crayons because I’ve never used them (and I liked the thought of the challenge) and because I read that once you’ve the hang of them, they’re better. Thanks very much for illustrating the difference as most of the videos I’ve watched only cover wax-based pencils, so they’re useless to me. So far, I think the oil suits my style as I’ve always liked to layer with a softer texture - so we’ll see how things progress! Again, thanks very much. Excellent video.
I am so sorry those instructors were so brutal. Don’t they understand that you have to start somewhere. No one can be perfect overnight and each person has a different style.
This is a wonderful tutorial on coloured pencils. I did learn that one of my pinks is darker than the other. The colours look very much the same when holding them in the hand. I might need to do a test blend before the actual project in future. Thank you for this tutorial.❤
I loved this tutorial! I didn't know you could go back over Zest It! Awesome! I don't like the prisma blender pencil because it always leaves that wax bloom! I like your fav method too!!
This has been a great help! I'm a beginner and have been using Marco Raffine along with a Prismacolor colourless blender. Even when I spend ages layering, I still don't feel that the colours are vibrant enough. The blender works but doesn't get rid of the tooth, leaving a grainy texture...now I know why! I've just joined your FB group, today and mentioned that I'm hanging out for a set of Prismacolor...(waiting for a price drop 🤞🏻) I can see more than ever now, that they are going to suit me better. Loving your channel...learning loads. Thank you.
Thank you so much for showing us the difference between oil-based and wax-based colored pencils and the difference in how to use them. I especially appreciated your showing us that your strokes in the oil-based pencils were actually very small ovals and not just back and forth as they appeared on the video. I don't know of any budget pencils that sell open stock. Prismacolor Premieres are still working out their problems and are a bit higher than some of us can afford, but they may have to come down a bit if any of the budget pencil companies who are working hard on quality control decide to go open stock themselves. I have been watching Prisma and their changes in ownership for a good many years and still hope to be able to get some in the future.
I love what you do, I tried the burnish blending but with arthritis in my hands, it's a no-no. I do use OMS, with brushes or stumps. I really need a lot of practice, I follow your videos, I love your voice, shoothing for one with chronic pain who get lost in the coloring moment and forget about everything else. Thank you.
Mimi I have chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy in my hands as well as my feet and legs, but like you I can be heavy handed on occasion to exercise more control over my coloring. After watching this video, I’ll be hunting down my OMS which I’ve owned for years and only tried once (unsuccessfully) with a paper stump. By the way, I’m having a terrible time trying to use the brush nibs on my alcohol pens. Have you found them useful? Have a blessed day!
@@sheriek2777 I do not have alcohol brush pens. I bought a while ago "Real watercolor brush pens " because I do watercolor sometimes. I did not like these, they are not w/c but some kind of dye ink, that is my only experience with brush pens. OMS works wonderfully for me and I can add more layers after, without using a lot of pressure. I do not think that I will achieve her technique but enough for my pleasure. Be kind for yourself because no one else will be.
Thank you Claire! I'm Julio from Argentina and I love colouring with colour pencils, its so relaxing and good for mental health. This video helped me a lot!!! I will watch the rest of your videos :)). Take care :D
Very thorough and interesting video, Thanks so much for making it. I just bought myself a set of Polychromos pencils because I love the smooth feel of them against the paper but I wasn't aware of how different they are for blending. You have saved me some frustration, so thank you, subscribed :)
Me too... and brand new to pencils and art. I started using watercolor but looking for a break to just relax with coloring preprinted pictures... COLOR BOOKS! HA! God bless you!
Thank you so much for this lesson. Like Shirley I am at a certain age and have been looking for something different to do. I decided to make my own greetings cards and thought I would use stamps. I hit on the idea of using coloured pencils and have Polychromos. Blending has been difficult, but after watching Claire, I think I may have been given the boost needed.
Thank you for your tutorial, I have the 3 different colour pencils, Prismacolour, Polychromos and Carandache, and I appreciate your demonstration of blending, I love doing portraits , and I find so challenged to do all the different methods, but as you said we need to practice and find for ourself, but your video was a wonderful help 😊 ❤
Hi Claire, Thank you so much for this very informative video and for sharing your knowledge. It’s very appreciated and kind. I recently discovered your channel and have subscribed. Very grateful for all your thoughtfulness. Blessings to you and family.
OMG! Are you psychic ?? Spent all day lookin for an answer and was on my last legs when I came upon this vid. I was questioning my color book! And how to know quality. But you hit the nail on the head. I am new to pencils and my first set was the 120 set of Prismas. Very recently I wanted to see what all the talk about Polychromos was. Got a decent price?on a set of 60. Havent been able to figure out what/why I couldn't get them to blend. Never thought there'd be a different technique for oil based as opposed to wax based. In the middle ofnthe vid, I pulled out my pencils and my first try on leaves and flowers shocked me !! How easy it was to just keep thinkin layers. Many many thanks !! I subscribed and tomorrow goin to start watchin all your vids !!
First off, thank you for the information and demonstration. Secondly, I use one of those Colored Pencil Blender Pens. It says for wax based but it works well with oil based also. This has been very helpful. I need to use my smoother paper and practice that burnish blend of yours. Thank you again 👍
Thank you! I've been away from my coloring for nearly a year & was having problems with blending - seems I forgot some things! This was VERY helpful for me, so I really appreciate it.
Hello I am fairly new to finding and using higher quality pencils, with so many to choose from, I get a bit confused but I really think your video has cleared up a lot for me. I KNOW that I don’t want to spend the time that it would take with all that layering work for Oil based pencils to blend well. I also know that I am naturally heavier handed in my coloring. From what you have demonstrated, I think the blending technique without all the layering work, is a much better fit for me, that being said, I will most likely invest in the Prisma Color Wax base pencil and try to improve my burnishing technique, which is already my favorite style. THANK YOU!
As a. newbie to he world of colored pencils, thanks so much for your breaking down the use & visual differences between the wax vs the oil-based colored pencils!
Thank you so much for the tips. I have used Prismas for years and love them but recently got the Polychromos for a birthday gift and wasn't sure about the blend but now I will just do a couple more layers. Thanks for the tips. Love your channel.
Thank God for your video I didn't know what I was doing ,I tried 3 color pencils never 5 different pencils. Blending was hard but now I understand more now, I appreciate your patience for making this video and explaining in detail step by step
Hello Claire! I found this so so helpful! I have bought myself Gold Faber colour pencils and I was layering it like oil pencils. Haha. It didn't achieve the effect that I wanted. I didn't know there are different techniques! Thank you so much for the video!
Great video. Very informative. I have both Prisma and Polychromos. Oil based pencil takes longer to work on, but the result is so realistic. It’s really nice. Whereas Prisma, it’s a lot easier to work with, because it’s softer and creamier. It also produces great result. I love them both. Yes, you are right by saying they are being worked differently. Polychromos stays sharper longer, Prisma doesn’t. You sharpen Prisma more often. Price point of both pencils is high, but worth it. Thank you for the video. Enjoyed watching it.
I have used mostly a blender pencil at this point and have been satisfied. I find mineral spirits work well for me when I want a more vibrant look. I am looking for tips on how to combine wax based and oil based pencils together in my coloring.
Brilliant video Claire! I found it really useful, especially as I’m quite a newbie. I had heard of OMS but not seen it demonstrated before. Great to have all the methods in one video. Saved to my favourites 🙂

Oh, I am sorry for your loss.
Shirley, sorry for your loss. My cat says hello to your little fur babies 😻😺
I really liked the results and thought, "But, that's not how the videos told me to do it." Thanks. This is very helpful.
You are so welcome!
One of the best tutorial on colour pencils. Brief and precisely explained, and demonstrated. Thank you.
Not brief.
This is one of the most informative and useful video I've ever watched. I've been colouring for years, but watching this made me realise I knew nothing 😂 Honestly this is gonna up my game so much. Thank you so much! I appreciate your time, knowledge, and experience.
I'm so glad!
Even for seasoned colored pencil artists this is an excellent instructional video and very true.
I love my Polychromos, but always wanted more vivid colours and now I realise I’m not layering enough! Thank you so much for this really great video 😊
Polychromos aren't the most vivid colours out there, however if you use the right paper and the right technic, you can get great finished results, that will hide that issue!
The same here I did it wrong - now I learned how to do 😊
First off, this is probably one of the best tutorials on blending that I have seen.
That's brilliant 😁
Very good and easy to understand, I didn’t know anything about all of these techniques and materials. Very appreciative for your guidance.
Glad it was helpful!
My favorite is burnishing. I absolutely love that technique, but now I understand the difference between the Prismacolors and Polychromos. You made it so simple. I also use a blender pencil and Vasaline. I experiment a lot and have been coloring for about a year, and my pages are getting better and better.
How do you utilize Vaseline with colored pencils? Are the pencils wax or oil based? Newbie here.
I’m glad you did this video as my fingers dislocate every day due to my genetic condition, so it’s good to see I can use other ways to colour on those days 😊
Thank you for this and I love your channel, it’s good for me to get lost colouring and watching your videos as a distraction to the pain 😊👍🏻
Thank you for explaining blending in real time. I’ve watched videos that sped it up. I needed to see it in real time to actually learn the technique.
Thank you for your lovely comment, I’m glad this video helped you x
This is one of the best videos on UA-cam about colour pencils! Thank you so much!!!!
Wow, thank you!
Again thank you
Hi Susan, I’m so sorry to hear about your accident. Glad to hear you are recovering and enjoying colouring xx
Aw Keni, you’re too kind. I hope everything is well xx
@@ColourwithClaire Thank you Claire, everything is well. I hope you and yours are well. xx
I agree. I thought I'd only need one brand of pencils but I find each brand caters to different purposes. Time to buy more pencils 😉
Yes, time to buy more pencils. I have my eyes on those Holbein pastel colored pencils, but they are so expensive.
@@linesymons9488 I bought those Holbein pastels last December in Japan. They're the same consistency as the Polychromos so it takes a while to blend but man, they're a marvel to look at.
Now you are convincing me to buy the whole set. 👍🏻
Outstanding video! I love how you showed each step in real time💕
This really helped me! I did not know this about the Fabre castellated pencils. I just bought some. Thank you so much!
I am so glad to have found your channel. I have been puzzled as to why I was not getting success with my colored pencils and you have solved my problems. Thank you for this video.
You are so welcome!
You're very welcome!
Thank you
I needed this information for my high school senior portfolio, currently working on a Bouquet of flowers drawing and I knew little to nothing about how colored pencils worked, it wasn’t really my strongest skill in art but not anymore thanks to you Claire !
Thank you so much for drawing out what tooth looks like and this entire demonstration. I helped me tremendously.
I'm a total novice ...... only started last year with art ...... brilliant tutorial, just makes sense ...... thank you 🤘🏻🌹
Claire that was really useful. Can I say, you are so easy to listen to. A lovely tutorial. researching
Excellent video. Thanks so much. 😊
Excellent demonstration of blending! Thank you!
Wonderful video. Thanks for having made it - just what I needed. Liked & subscribed!
Really helpful advice especially on the different types of pencils and specific techniques for each type. Thanks.
Loved your demonstration. Comments are to the point and clear. Thsnk you.
I’ve just ordered 12 polychromos to try out ... can’t wait to try your blending technique. Thank you so much.
Great to hear!
Luv your effort in demonstrating how different techniques and applications work!!! Thank you so much, 🙏
My dear girl i cant imagine what has jappened to your hands but you are a real hero to make these videos. Much love❤❤❤❤
What about my hands?
they looked good to me ...practical and agile .
Thank you for showing the blending method. I didn’t know there was different kinds of color pencils!👍🏽
Finally I found a video that shows how to blend the easy way. I am new to this so I've been searching for just this type of video❣️
Thanks
Liz
Glad it was helpful!
I'm very new to adult colouring and to be honest, blending has been a bit of an enigma. But you've explained it all so clearly, with such a concise demonstration, that I don't feel so bamboozled now. This is by far the best video I've watched about blending and for the first time, I really understand what to do.
Glad it helped you! X
That was very clear and instructive. I’m a newbie at colouring and I learned so much. I didn’t realise there was so much to it.. thank you.
Thank you...I think I just worked out why I was having trouble with my colouring.
I was having trouble going from Prismas to Polychromos. Now I know that I was using them wrong. Thank you for your explanation and demonstration. I think coloring will be fun again. ✌🏼️🖍 ♥️
This is the best and most helpful video I have seen on that topic. Thank you very much, that helped me a lot!!!
amazing video , i finally have my answers ! i know was i was frustrated with oil based pencil ,i made too much presure , i wasn't patient and hardly understand how to use correctly blender, i think i might begin or at least try wax based pencil but i know that oil pencils aren't bad at all ! and i'm finally aware that they are oil and what it means !! i'm really gratefull for this video only wish i would find it earlier ... thank you so much !
Thank you.
Thank you for the tips on blending liquids especially. I have arthritis and have avoided pencils, but I’m going to try!
Thanks Claire! Invaluable info for this marker girl brushing up on pencils.
Arteza is selling open stock now
Thank you for letting me know!
Needed to see this , been so frustrated trying to learn this technique, thank you so much!!
Thank you.
Awesome video I learned so much can't wait to try thank you
Mimi I have chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy in my hands as well as my feet and legs, but like you I can be heavy handed on occasion to exercise more control over my coloring.
I also have chemotherapy induced nerve damage and am thankful for this help in blending
Welcome!
Me too... and brand new to pencils and art. I started using watercolor but looking for a break to just relax with coloring preprinted pictures... COLOR BOOKS! HA! God bless you!
The very best explanation of blending I’ve seen!! Thank you so much for taking the time to help others!
You are so welcome!
In the middle ofnthe vid, I pulled out my pencils and
my first try on leaves and flowers shocked me !! How easy it was to just keep thinkin layers. Many many thanks !! I subscribed and tomorrow goin to start watchin all your vids !!
That's great to hear!
THANK YOU!
Thank you, this is one of the best videos I’ve watched. I’ve learned so much.
I didn't realise the difference between wax and oil pencils, I was given oil pencils and have struggled to use them. Now I know why, thank you!
Great video, thanks! I have Polys and prismas and did not know the difference for blending them! Very helpful!
You explained everything really well. Just got a set of pencils to try a different medium. This is very helpful! Thank you!
As a. newbie to he world of colored pencils, thanks so much for your breaking down the use & visual differences between the wax vs the oil-based colored pencils!
Excellent information! Thanks so much for this clarification!🙏
Thank you for this video Claire this has helped as I'm still learning 😊😊
Hello Claire! I found this so so helpful! I have bought myself Gold Faber colour pencils and I was layering it like oil pencils. Haha. It didn't achieve the effect that I wanted. I didn't know there are different techniques! Thank you so much for the video!
Outsatanding demonstration! Learned so much-thank you!
I've been looking for a more current Video I must say You explain so Well. Love your work!! THANKS!!
Thank you so much for this video, very helpful. You are super talented. 🙂
I am new to colored pencils and your video was very helpful!!! Thanks so much for sharing
I have used mostly a blender pencil at this point and have been satisfied. I find mineral spirits work well for me when I want a more vibrant look. I am looking for tips on how to combine wax based and oil based pencils together in my coloring.
I use layers of polychromos and my last layer I burnish with prismacolor
Brilliant video Claire! I found it really useful, especially as I’m quite a newbie. I had heard of OMS but not seen it demonstrated before. Great to have all the methods in one video. Saved to my favourites 🙂
