- I was recently researching ingredients found in many colored pencils and came across paraffin. This got me thinking…can you blend colored pencils with it? So I decided to give it a try! Watch me compare several different solvents and mediums to paraffin oil to see which one is the best at blending colored pencils. I compare it to Odorless Mineral Spirits, Rubbing Alcohol, Petroleum Jelly and Baby Oil.

Just to inform you that reporting these scammers does no good at all. I have been doing this and it takes mere SECONDS for them to be kicked back out to your comments section.
I think our only option is if they stop getting ANY takers of their bait. Hopefully as the word gets around, eventually, they'll finally move on.
But I'm sure they'll just start some other scam.

These people are scum!!!
Thank you for giving us a "heads up" on these "individuals"
Happy New Year!
❤Thanks for this very informative video
I learned so much. Thanks again!!
Thank you.
This thorough, side-by-side evaluation of blending media for pencils was fascinating! We asked one of our art materials information specialists about using paraffin oil with colored pencils, and they said that non-drying oils similar to paraffin oil impart permanent softness essential to oil pastel, and they thought adding paraffin oil to colored pencil would functionally convert the pencil lead into something more like oil pastel. They thought this technique would work best on a heavy paper or absorbent board, so that the oil could be absorbed and the medium could firm up and solidify, since it wouldn't "cure' like oil paint. They suggested using glassine paper between drawings in storage to prevent transferring oil stains to other artwork.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights. They were very valuable and informative. FYI…I was pleased to find that after a few days, the paraffin oil test swatches dried well. I plan to do a follow up video where I can do even more in-depth tests. I will be sure to keep in mind your recommendations. Thanks again.
@@ColoringBliss Our pleasure! If you test these techniques on different papers, we'd love to know which ones worked best!
@@ColoringBliss that was one of my questions, how well did it dry, how long it took, etc
Mineral oil and paraffin is the same, the active ingredient of baby oil. And they are the liquid form of vaseline. But, in the beauty industry is another ingredient that works like oil (oil-disolve-oil) and like mineral spirits, who works and then evaporate. Is cyclomethicone silicone. Is light and volatile. When dries, left nothing behind. I keep a jar (with a sponge inside, so I can control the amount) saturated with cyclomethicone and I use either q tip or brush. I, even, make a blender marker with this. I hope that helps someone. ( Here,in Greece, I bought it for about 5 euros/100ml). Happy coloring.
So nice of you to take the time to show all these products! Thank you!
This is so helpful. Love seeing your precious pooch join you on your videos, both seen and heard!
Thank you for such a thorough and precise demonstration! I learned so much
You can get mineral oil at the laxative section, so it won't have perfumes or additives added, unlike baby oil.
I really enjoy your experiments and reviews on products and techniques. Thank you!
Thank you so much for doing this. 💗 I appreciate your tutorial videos. Keep doing what you do!
Such an informative video. I love product comparisons. Your tests were great. I’ll be watching many more of your videos.
Wow eye opening techniques here…….. can’t wait to try!!!! Thank so much Jennifer 😊
Thank you so much for demonstrating the different blending solutions. Truly amazing.
Really nice demo. What kind of pencils are those?
I'm glad you're willing to experiment. It's so helpful!
This is awesome! I've never thought or hear of using liquid blenders, I've only ever know the little colorless blend pencil. I'm gonna have to try this next time. Thank you!
Thanks for trialing all these! I am just getting into colouring
This was an awesome demo, even for us novice colored pencil artists. Please keep the good information coming!
Thank you for the demonstration. Enjoyed your tutorial.
Beautiful. So many options
Wow. Thanks for showing this. I have never seen this done before
Thank you so much for all your videos, they help us a great deal.
Awesome! Always love learning new stuff
This is a fantastic comparison, thank you so much for sharing!
Great info! I had no idea about this so I am excited to try it. Thanks!
Langridge’s Solvent 75 is an alternative to Gamsol lowest toxicity. Your application of the Gamsol would have been better if you dipped the paper stump a bit longer before using it
WOW! That was a great demonstration.
Thank you
I have always stated, that every informational video you post I learn something new. Thank you so much. Hugs from Chicago!!
Thanks for such an informative video! My granddaughter and I love to color together and we will experiment with some of these options. Would love to see another video using some of the other "blender" choices you mentioned!
very thorough in your testing Jennifer, I love this!
That was a great idea!!! 😮❤ I am going to try some of these out! Thank you!!
Great comparison and wow I would of never thought to use paraffin I really like it when you put it down first then color over it. It looks so smooth thank you for doing this.
Thank you for the great info. It looks promising. I've been playing with different mediums but always come back to colored pencils. Love your videos Jennifer.
Great. Just great! Thanks.
Very thorough testing chart, thank you
Those are all great ideas. I've wanted to blend better than just the pencil blender. I'm very excited to try these. Jennifer thank you very much for the great info. I've enjoyed watching your videos for a long time.
Thank you! The video is very well organized and presented!😊
I've always used Gamsol with a blending stump which works much better than a brush, but I'm going to try the Paraffin Oil. I really like the results you got with that. Never would I use baby oil because the smell (just like baby powder) reminds me of changing dirty diapers (LOL). It's important to note that Gamsol is an ARTIST grade odorless mineral spirit, not the type you buy at Home Depot. Thanks for the research & testing. Saves us a lot of time when you do it for us!
I've used Gambol before - as well as blender pens and pencils - but you've now gotten me very interested in other possibilities, Jennifer. Maybe the most intriguing possibility is pre-treating the paper! Hours of experimentation to follow. Thank you!!!
Thank you for the lesson. I appreciate the science behind the art. 😊🎨
Very interesting . Thanks for trying these for blending.

Thank you for demonstrating these products so throughly. Can't wait to get back to my pencils ! I've used Gambol in the past, but I just ordered the Paraffin oil.

Thanks for your value classes. I enjoyed to much your video,
Amazing! Thank you Jennifer for doing the hard work. I’ve used coconut oil to blend but it really didn’t have that much of difference between the vaseline and baby oil. It did make my page smell yummy.😋 😂
What about oil stain on paper?
Thank you, Jennifer! I will try the paraffin oil, and coconut oil. Great tips.
I love how much time you and Steve put into your research. I have only tried Gamasol and that was years ago. Lately I have been using a colorless alcohol marker.
I have been using alcohol marker also to blend prismas works a little for sure.
I am so excited that I came across your youtube page. I have joined and look so forward to learning much more about colored pencils. I love the way they look and have not used any for a long time, but it has been on my mind to find someone on youtube, so my wish was answered. 😀

I love your style of teaching! Subbed right away.
Thank you for sharing your input, I like the alcohol because of the fast drying. Thank you again it was a nice outlook to different products.
I learned a lot from this video. I especially like how your voice comes across in the video. So many times the presenter has an accent that is difficult understand or the person talks too fast. Thank You.
I love this! You've given me some great ideas.
Thank you - I'm liking the unscented element. I am surprised at the alcohol outcome. Thank you for for taking time to make and present this info.
I’ve resisted solvent and oils because I work mostly in books and didn’t want to ruin them. But for Christmas I got papers to try that would feed through my printer and purchased downloaded art off Etsy as I wanted to work in more mediums. Now I will breakdown and give the parison oil a try as well! Thanks for the info!!!
Very interest demonstration. I’ll have to pull out my ol’ stash of colored pencils and give this a try!!
I have been watching your videos for at least 5 years now. I have learned so much! Now I just need to learn how to create more time to color and destress. 🙂
This has been so informative. Thank you so much. I am new to using color pencils and I am hooked! I have subscribed and will be thoroughly checking out your channel. Again, thanks so much for your time and effort. I’m going to try out the coconut oil and olive oil myself. I don’t have really good pencils so I’m hoping to see some improvements on the paper!
Great information. Thanks for sharing.
