Great video. My hometown , visited Point Park many times and learned new history each time. A very moving and interesting place to learn about the Civil War.
Hi Debi, I have done 8 videos so far on the attractions in your town, but this one was a passion to do. You have a unique Placa in your home town, I wish we had the time to visit all the trails all the way down to the Carter home.I have been to many civil war museums and memorials, the one that moved me the most was Gettysburg until now. Point Park memorial moved me in a deeply different way, because of the memorial that recognizes the sacrifice of the simple soldiers shaking hands sent chills up my spine. I never seen that anywhere I visited. I really hope they conserve this historic place. BTW, your hometown is very nice to say the least, people are down to earth and actually take the time to talk to you. Thank you for commenting on this video and wish your future generations much prosperity.
Amazing view from up there. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of those cannons. Can you imagine the effort to get them up there. Great job on this and thanks for the lesson John
Love the look of the old cannons, incredible the distance 3 1/2 miles is no joke, impact would have been devastating...love the monuments, especially the peace monument...pretty cool they have a small museum as well...the painting of the battle above the clouds is amazing...
Those cannons can do some damage for sure and the range was unbelievable for that era. The Peace monument is the only civil war memorial dedicated to both sides into one. Interesting story about that painting, The schetch drawn by the artist was stored in a barn for years until it was found and turned into a painting. Unfortunately the battles were not above the clouds but below. It kind of misrepresents what happens there but it does look epic. Thanks for your great comment my friend. Have a good weekend.
Watching and enjoying this excellent video again of your tour of Point Park and all the historical Civil War sites. I continue to make my journey through your "RV TRIPS - Sceneries and Events" playlist. Thank you for sharing my friend.
Great video! Thanks for taking us along with you in the history of the Civil War and sharing the information. Love that kind of stories. The music helps to put us in the mood Thumbs up and wish you a wonderful weekend!
Thanks for your great comment Sorin. I love these kind of stories as well, especially the ones that had a major impact on our history, and yes, the right music always helps putting you in the mood you want to relate or what you are feeling at that moment and time..
The top of the mountain was mainly just the cannons shooting at the army below but at the bottom of that mountain and a few miles around it there numerous battles that cost the lives of 35,000 men. Thanks for the visit and comment Max.
Living here & knowing how far Missionary Ridge is from there, I'm always amazed at the range of those cannons. Thank you for your excellent videos of our town!
Out of all the points of interest in your town this one moved me. As I mentioned to another local Debi Jeffries 1 day ago. This is a unique treasure in your home town, many civil war museums and memorials have statues, one other that moved me was Gettysburg, until I seen the New York Memorial here at Point Park , because this memorial recognizes the sacrifice of the simple soldiers, shaking hands sent chills up my spine. (One Memorial dedicated to both sides) I never seen that anywhere I visited. I hope this place is conserved for future generations. The stupidity of the politicians caused this war and Not hatred between the common people. Let it be a reminder. Sorry for the rant.:) Thank you again Susan.
John C RV I found it very poignant that it is said the soldiers on opposing sides would talk to each other about their families in the dark on the mountainside between skirmishes
I heard that in the museum and that's sad. The next day they were back shooting each other. My wife simplified it all, she said they should have all gone home. That would have been something.
Great video thanks brother. I definitely like the history. I can just imagine what it was like. Thanks brother keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again
Thanks for your kind comment my friend. It's an honor spreading and reminding people of the sacrifice a regular soldier makes. Tired of hearing of just the generals. Have a great weekend.
AMAZING!!!! American Civil War history is ALWAYS very popular! There are whole magazines devoted to it. You would think that the subject would have been exhausted by now, but the fascination with this era of history remains. Great Video!!! #Like51
Never forget so it will never happen again. Can you believe the politicians convinced the people to shoot down his own brother? People who want us to forget are people who want to suppress our history lessons so they can happen again. Just my 2 cents.
Really good video, I have been to Chattanooga several years ago I think I want to make a return trip next spring or early summer thanks for a really good video
We took the Incline Train up there and wish we could have walked the trails around there but the kids could not make it. Tennessee has a lot of history, I wish I could spend more time there. Thank you for your comment. Have a good Sunday.
The views from there are so great! Its amazing that the cannons should shoot as far as they did. I liked that they had a good museum where you could learn about the area and the battle if you weren't already familiar with the history. Wonderful trip.
The museum was really good.the memorial park does commemorate all the battles fought around the area of Chattanooga but most of all it commemorates both sides which is very unusual. The main monument is for both sides and that’s what makes it unique.
So you can ride the incline up, walk over to Pointe Park and then take the incline down? This seems a better option than trying to drive up and find parking. Do you agree? Thanks for the videos they have been helpful in planning my trip.
great entry, I pictured all the troops doing their routines while you where describing each scene there. very interesting place full of historical stuff, take care and best wishes
Wow, they built a really great memorial. This would be a spooky one for me to visit so I'm glad you went there for me lol. Ground with that much blood spilled is a powerful place. Great job taking us through it & you filmed some great views! ~Safe travels always
simplified version....ahh the cause was the abolishment of slavery and the fact that southern landowners were against it because who would pick their cotton if it was ..hence war
Good opinion but that sounds too simple, it cant be what started the war if Abolishment of slavery came into play during the war. But may be it is that simple. Just find it hard to believe that an estimated 620,000 men, lost their lives in the line of duty. That has not been equaled since by any other American conflict.
@@JohnCRV yep...The American Civil War was fought between the United States of America and the Confederate States of America, a collection of eleven southern states that left the Union in 1860 and 1861. The conflict began primarily as a result of the long-standing disagreement over the institution of slavery..by the way i was at chattanooga in 1990
@@jefo4213 First I want to say, I really appreciate this civil conversation that we are having in which it's very rare these days. I know what's written in books and thought in schools today. But according to many American and foreign historians, slavery was definitely one of the issues but not "primarily" why 13 states broke away from the Union and consequentially 620,000 men lost their life to primarily free slaves? I agree landowners were against it because who would pick their cotton and northern slave owners were also against it just because..... There was also a long list of State Rights that were being taken away just like the fed gov keeps trying till this day...... Another important thing not mentioned, Many of these historians felt that slavery was going away all by itself within a decade. This was also for many reasons... Simplified version; -Many Southerners knew it was not right to keep another human as property. -Too expensive to buy slaves. -Too expensive to keep them. What shocks me is during the civil war the north still had slaves and it continued for a long time.

I was a little surprised myself on the distance but being so high the precipitation gives it a longer range I think. Thanks for your comment Josh.
