*Lyrics (and bloody hell will you love to sing this one!):* I thought to spend my early years accross the open sea with not a care but findin' all the wealth that I could keep. Our ship she stood tall with twenty-six sails a sight for all to see. Not three weeks in she took a good knock that sent her right down to the deep. And as the sky went dim I saw several fins guide myself and the company. To a port in the storm with an inn who's sign bore a star adorned in leaves. When the night is long and we're all full of dread oh where am I to go, for we're all good'n lost and we're missin' our beds oh lady take us home. When we've run through our stores and our takin' is high and we've nowhere left to roam, oh we'll keep our chins up and we'll look to the sky oh lady take us home! When I went to go pay the landlady my share I was struck by the sheen of her copper red hair. And she won't take our money but pointed us where we could find the main land so we hauled the boat there! When the night is long and we're all full of dread oh where am I to go, for we're all good'n lost and we're missin' our beds oh lady take us home! When we've run through our stores and our takin' is high and we've nowhere left to roam, oh we'll keep our chins up and we'll look to the sky oh lady take us home! When we'd found a new vessel no more than a year on the bow did we see that same lady appear. When our cook step before her a compass in hand and she led us to where we could get back to land.
I think signboar is "sign bore". I don' t think Niece is right but I don't know what is. I first heard "adorned with leaves" instead of "dawned in Niece". Like it was a heraldic description of a tavern sign or shield. Unlike all the other verses this one doesn't seem to rhyme and is harder to figure out. And as the sky went then I saw several fins guide myself and the company.
To a port in the storm with the nymph who sign bore' a star that dawned in Niece When I went to go pay the land lady my share I was struck by the sheen of her copper red hair. And she won't take our money but pointed us where we could find the main land so we hauled the boat there! When we'd found a new vessel no more than a year on the bow did we see that same lady appear. When our cook step before her a compass in hand and she led us to where we could get back to land

Colm! Stay with me here... This song by itself sounds like it's an advert for an upcoming seafaring adventure movie starring YOU, where you're known The Handsome Devil. You set sail with a crew, and the ship gets stuck out in the sea, and The Lady appears and leads you all back to land, guiding you away from harm. Years later, you sail on another journey (not sure what the story would be, but give me time and I'll give you a wonderful story to tell [I'm a fiction writer]). The Lady is your constant companion, and eventually leads you back to land and safety once your mission is complete. Years later, on your deathbed by the sea, The Lady appears again and takes your hand. She tells you it's time to go home, and off you go Home. I'd love to see something like this starring you. Stay handsome, Colm.

For some reason the idea of a condemned man, slumped against the wall of his cell with his hands and bare feet shackled, singing this song seems like a really good idea for a film scene.
