A house light switch. A stereo with only one working speaker. And putting in a windshield that has a crack in it. Yeah that sounds about right. Awesome I'm in. ✌👍
You should do something with that beautiful station wagon sitting next to the parts truck. It would go along with one of the reasons I enjoy your channel so much...variety. You do so much; from chainsaws to tractors, heating coils and programming PLC’s.
Old vehicles can sure be frustrating at times and then you get a day when things go right and it makes you feel so much better! I always enjoy your videos because you show the good, bad and ugly. Thanks
Ya done something to be proud of maybe as you made me smile an wonder just what could make you do this type of heart attack risking bits of stress to yourself... hell no one lives forever but your a fun to watch fellow who said do something. Since I am glued to the chair, I at least cleaned the dogs ears... he is a lot happier fellow himself now since we are both senior citizens.. its a toss which one goes first.
Being a dodge guy I can tell you that truck is kind of a Frankenstein of different trucks. The dash and cab were for a 72-74 truck. The grill is a 77-78. Not sure on the driveline but appears it could be 72-74 also. I know I would be aggravated just the same as you if I took on a GM project due to not being familiar with how it works but like you say, the challenge of figuring out how it works is a lot of the fun of it, but beings the truck has been conglomerated together by someone else in the past doesn’t make things any easier. This series is how I found your channel, I am now subscribed and watch all of your vids. Great content!
Brother ! You are such a AWESOME !! Mechanic. You have thought me ALLOT !! & yes, I would have gone to the auto parts for that starter. But not know more. Thanks to you, I really think that I can repair my own starter.as well as many others problems I happen to come across. Bottom line brother. I TRULY appreciate you ALLOT!!
You might consider the windshield installation a fail, but at least you learned with an already damaged piece. Now you know what you have to do to get it right. I had a Ranger that smelled like bad gas for three or four tanks before I could not smell it any more. Nice video.
Exactly! The know it all’s shut up! I used to love taking them old dodge trucks out of the woods as a kid and get them running and do what it takes to get them on the road again. I still do that today with whatever trucks I can find
I work on starters and alternators and carburetors I put windshields in but not the same way you do I think I have a little better luck I put the gasket on the windshield then set the windshield in the truck is a rope around it to pull it in with a lot of soap you're making a lot of good content keep up the good work it's all fun
Glad to see people still try and rebuild or fix things like starters but as a heads up you can get a better starter for that truck. Late model Dodge, starters, like from a 90’s truck will fit the older small block engines. They’re gear reduction so they have higher torque and they’re smaller than the 70’s style starters so it’s easier to clear headers.
I like that the truck, despite its age, is still functional and you can fix it with recycled parts from others. I work in a Dodge subsidiary in Mexico and we manufacture many club cab chassis and I can assure you that they are leak-proof.
I'm really glad I found your channel. You keep it real and that's what I like. I'm really enjoying your videos and your entertaining dialog. Good video!
I'm new to your videos but I have a lot of fun watching especially about the old dodge flat bed they're a nightmare mopars mostly old parts and rust I always enjoy the videos keep them coming 😉
Hello Chad, this is Chris from the UK. Im no good with electrics, but a little bit of help when taking windscreens out, or putting them in, if you are taking them out, take the trim off on the outside, and screwdriver the seal to the other side of the lip from the inside from the inside. you dont need to be heavy handed, just go nice and steady! When you have the windscreen out, and you want to refit it in another vehicle, clean the windshield with wire wool, check the seal has no broken pieces of glass in it, and take it off the windshield, put it in a pan of boiling water, and let it soften before reinstalling it to the glass. Sit the bottom edge on the metal lip of the screen surround, and SLOWLY feed the rubber seal back over the lip, either by hand, or using a screwdriver, go all the way round to the other side. This works for me, and I'm a tight Yorkshireman! Keep up doing what you are doing, and tell the Nay sayers to leave you alone (VERY polite way of saying F**K O*F! All the best for your channel, Chris
You are a wealth of knowledge and entertaining as well sir..On those old windshields like those might i suggest looking up the ole rope installation method..been around for years and works like a charm on those gasket styles. Guarantee you will use it from now on and wish you would have on the ole dodge. Keep up the great content!!!
I’ve worked on a lot of 60-80’s MOPARS for 45 years. I’ve never had a dash voltage limiter fail on me but yes I’ve seen guys on the net complain. I guess as time marches on they will. 5 Dodge owned now & they are all still working. With the moisture that truck was exposed to i figured that was your problem & glad you found that out. As for the windshield. I usually call a glass shop & the way you installed it is how they do it. When I do one however I use sealer to hold the gasket on the glass. Wrap a strong thin string around it. Sit the glass in with the loose ends of the string inside. Have someone apply light pressure to the outside of the glass & pull one string to a corner then the other. And just slowly work around. The string will pull the gasket in. Pretty easy. Close the doors with the windows open & make sure it looks flush. Yea that’s a cool old truck. Tough as nails but it’s been neglected. As for the printed circuit board. I actually like those. Way less wiring & very easy to wire aftermarket gauges right to it. Take some time to get that roof true & have a glass guy come out with a new windshield. You can reuse that gasket. Great project
Love the truck, and the channel! I’m into building anything 60s-early 80s! Learning some new things to use from your experiences, I really like how you rarely buy new parts and reuse and fix the originals. I always assume they’re too far rusted or corroded 😅 keep at it! I’ll be watchin!
You are such an inspiration. makes me want to work on my old projects. This video sure made me not regret selling my 1986 fist gen dodge tho. Electrical nightmare for sure.
I wish i had an inch of ur energy u make it look real easy and i know it aint…u have a beautiful paridise land guess id be very happy like u living the country life what a living ur very blessed brother…🤠👈🏾
A lot of the time on drivers door swaps on those older dodge truck are becuase of the title. At least thats why I swap them doors cuase the vin is on the drivers doors. Great vid!! I watch everyone as your pretty dang handy at fixin things.
I take everything apart before I buy another. Doesn't matter if it's a window motor or a dishwasher. i'm 52 and have been a mechanic since I was 14 and while working at shops for 35 years I had to replace parts but when I had time I would take the old ones apart and see what caused it to fail. Most of the time it was something simple. So on my own stuff I always take it apart before buying and have saved a ton of money over the decades. But we are a dying breed. I was happy to see someone else saving a bunch of money. Money saved is money earned.
In 65 years, I have only purchased one rebuilt starter, and that was because I was in a hurry and needed the starter immediately, and the rotor shaft had broken. I feel bad for you, that the Dodge is having so many issues, but I see the potential in the truck. I have owned lots of GM and Ford trucks, but never a Dodge.
You can save it it can be done I had an oak tree fall across my 98 Dodge 4x4 somebody was in a hurry to cut a tree down it was in the wrong spot note I did not park it there it was my friend's ex son-in-law but it could not be fixed but it fixed other trucks and became Parts truck enjoy your show keep up the great work John from San Jose California
Keep that old truck. Lots of uses for it. You can add handy things to it as things come up. Besides, you got too much work in to it. Good video. Cheers !!
Damn I am really sorry that happened to this truck. I luv old Dodges. I bought a 94 short bed 4x4. I get what u saying about Dodge. Still like them but they have issues. About those gauges. I seen people just round those holes out and just replace with aftermarket gauges and get rid of all that mess. I know we on a budget but just a thought. Wish we could find a decent cab. Al in all keep up the good work buddy.
I'm currently working on a 97 Dodge, I once had a 74 Dodge, the 74 Dodge was an electronic nightmare and so is the current one. Got them both because they were dirt cheap. When everything is working they're great. As a rule all I work on is Chevy and GMCs and I should stick for that rule 😂 I admire your persistence and tenacity. Thanks for sharing your awesome videos and keep up the good work 👍☮️🇺🇲
Bud i tell ya knee pads work great !! Before each job where i have to get down and jack up a car i put them on and it saves that crushing pain they really help !!!
I like your channel man. You give the common man hope. lol. I owned a 69 D200 camper special. Mint green white roof. 318. Needed a oil tanker following me. Got to luv the old Dodge pick up. Good show man. Have a good day. English man looking from Sweden.
Great video and keep up the great content and I like to fix everything too as cheep as possible.. keep it real.. Like your saying " little bit at a time.. Cheers.
That multi-pin connector on the circuit board of the instrument cluster is likely the intermittent connection. With the chassis wire harness plug removed the individual pins can be re-soldered to the copper trace of the circuit board. DO NOT USE Plumbing solder and flux!!! Get some electronic rosin core 60-40 lead tin solder and about a 30-45 watt soldering iron. Solder each pin at it base to the copper traces. Avoid solder bridges between pins. This should solve your intermittent instrument cluster issues. I did this repair on the dash of my son's Little Red Express truck years ago and it is still going strong. Some of the dash lamps go bad and you could have one or two of those that are burned out. Some use plug-in 12V lamps that push into plastic sockets that twist-lock into the circuit board. Those have small contacts that are spring loaded to contact the copper traces of the circuit board. Make sure those make good contact.
I recently bought a 77 F 250 4x4 4 speed someone put together years ago with a 390 in it. Pretty solid decent lookin ole rig and it runs awesome but it sat for at least 7 years and all the electrical gremlins and other little things that go wrong when things sit had me pullin what little hair I have left out! Lol. I feel your pain! But it was worth it. It’s a cool old rig and I love driving it. And I managed to squeeze 12.5 mpg out of it to boot! Lol. Keep up the good work. Love the channel! Love the variety as well. We work on all the same type of things!
hahaha i was a mechanic at the school and them buses have right at 3 miles of wiring down them, every time i had electrical issues, the dang head light switch every time, them international plastic switch housing melt and send the whole system into the twilight zone
If you had any paracord it would of been a great help to you installing the windscreen. Oh I felt your pain and frustration Chad all anyone can ever do is their best. I like and respect your determination great video and as always keep her lit
One of the things that I absolutely love about Chads channel is how frugal and resourceful he is at repurposing and using whats on hand often being second hand parts etc. Chad would be a very valuable asset during a post apocalyptic situation or god forbid a socialist or communist tyranny the likes they are trying to pull off. Back to part 2, I'm only 7 min. into it... Thumbs up already ! More singing feller. 😄 💯%
@@ThisNThatGarage May not have to wait much longer under the tyranny we're experiencing. Being from Canada, we're already suffering due to that rainbow sock wearing, fake feminist, tootie fruity pixie-boi , commie sell-out in Ottawa. :)
Windscreen repair kit seals cracks. For proper stability, there should be a capacitor on both the input and output of the voltage regulator. A series input diode should be added for reverse polarity protection.
This old truck makes me wanna get the ole flatbed I got up and going again. I’m a Chevy guy but I got a 72 ford F350 flatbed has the 360FE in it. It lost all oil pressure suddenly and it needs brake work
I bought a 68 Chevy c10 bout 6 months ago very nice truck but been sitting for bout 3 years with new motor I had to change fuel pump and all the fuel lines while I was at it and blow all old gas out of tank before I could get it to stop smoking and smell of ol gas it had new tank put on it when guy parked it with bout half tank gas in it so I filled it up with fresh gas hopefully thinking I could burn it all out but did not go as planned lol 😀 😅. Just got little smoke now hopefully it clear up on my and ur truck great video enjoying them very much thank u
As an old Chrysler technician from 1979-a984, I feel your pain. But,,,, you shouldn't blame all that crazy stuff on MOPAR design since that truck was butchered bad when you got it from a junkyard. The shop rarely had any truck problems under warranty except now and then one of those crazy instrument panel voltage regulators would fail. You are very good at what you do, keep it up.
I learned a long time ago 'bout putting a small dia. rope in the windshield channel. As you pull the rope out 90 deg. starting at the bottom. The glass will magically settle down in the rubber.
To make the windshield fit you need to belt sand it to fit first I learned after braking 3 and called the auto glass guy then he had us put the rubber in hot water so it would move easy 😉 good luck
Great job pops. I know what it like to work by yourself. But keep up the great work and keep doing what you're doing. Might be broken busted or your disgusted. But it works. It's a mechanics way.
Your videos are always extremely entertaining! I am from the deep south, and I assume you are as well, and I can definitely understand your extensive vocabulary. You might want to do a short video, for your other viewers that might not be from the deep south, on the origins of your vocabulary, cause it is too darn funny! 🤣I love it! Thank you for great video's.
Dodges of that era had stout drive trains but everything else was junk and would fall apart around you as you drove along. The light in the radio is probably a burned out incandescent. Many times I have pulled out the burned out lamp and installed an LED with resistor for 12 volts connected to that lamp base. With all the different colors available today you have lots of options including LEDs with the correct resistor built in. I have a big bus and the marker lamps are burning out. Plenty of room inside that lens to solder a correctly colored LED with resistor across the original lamp base then never change that lamp again or pay for expensive hard to find antique lamps.
I liked so much your dash!!! Looks very very good. Hola from Guadalajara, México. ( Sorry my English) i hope one day come your Town i bye some truck or car you repair. You aré very very good mecánico.(mecanic)
The freeze plugs in Dodge V-8s were horrible back in that time period. I’ve seen them rot out before the truck/van had 60K miles on them. Same for their door hinges. Open the door and it’d drop two inches because of shot hinges.
I FEEL your pain on the Dodge elec problems, back when I was a young man, going to college working 3 jobs and doing mechanic work out of my garage. Yes my tales of woe persist, a car dealer friend of mine (RIP) brought me a similar Dodge 1/2 ton. 74 or 75 that he had bought at the auction. IT HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD AN ELEC FIRE. I liked the guy but I screened the stuff he brought much closer. Wiring harnesses are no fun.
I know you were only playing around with the winch, but I just thought about an old trick a wrecker driver showed in one of his videos. Getcha an old 2x6, or 2x4. Cut you a notch on one end of your block. Cut your block to around 6in or 12in. When your winch load is close to the end of your flatbed grab your block and back your winch off until you have enough slack in your cable. Put your cable in the notched end of your block. Then put the block on the edge of your flatbed, and hold it in place as you slowly take the slack out of your cable enough where the block stays in place on it’s own. Then slowly continue winching in. As your hook snags the notch in the block it should cause the block to begin to go vertical helping the load clear the edge of the flatbed . After your load has made it over the edge the block is supposed to fall out of the way on it’s own. From what I understand the block is supposed to reduce the stress of both the cable and winch. Lowering the chance of snapping a cable, and the winch over heating. Well in theory anyway.
I had a 70 Chev truck and I put the windshield seal on the window first wrapped twine around the part that seals in the windshield frame about three times wrapped around and as you lay it and you unwind it and it sets the window into the metal frame that’s a good way to do it I did it alone to
I will preface by saying I have dozens of 72 -80 dodge trucks and I can say that as much as everyone thinks they are parts interchangeable they kinda aren't. I don't know what year that thing is but it's almost definitely not a 79. The driver's door might be but the rest is 74 or earlier. I still love it and I hate to see a guy get frustrated and blast dodge when obviously it's previous owners were complete butchers.
Easier to fit the rubber to the windscreen glass, put a piece of strong string (cord) around the grove and then place the screen in place and pull the string out of the rubber to seat it in place. Best to have a friend to apply gentle pressure on the screen during the operation👍👍🏴
I’m a GM guy too, although I’ve hauled a lot a stuff in in a Ford truck but my MOPAR experiences ain’t went so well. Electrical problems (including fires) and parts that don’t quite fit even though they look the same were the main problems. Not sure if the newer stuff is better but the older Dodge stuff can have ya cussin pretty quick.
Greetings from the British Channel islands Chad 🇯🇪 if you don't keep the Dodge truck at least keep the winch I reckon that little machine proved its worth if the truck didn't plus I am sure you could mount the winch to other trucks front or rear of the vehicle a winch can always be a handy thing to have especially if you need to pull stuff or other vehicles
Hi good to watch, he who never made a mistake as done nothing. Many thanks from Nr Liverpool UK.
You cod with cars
A house light switch. A stereo with only one working speaker. And putting in a windshield that has a crack in it. Yeah that sounds about right. Awesome I'm in. ✌👍

Hi Chad, its 9.30pm Saturday evening and your video has just come up to view - good work on the old dodge..... greetings from New Zealand
Very interesting to see the time difference. 0255 here in Pacific United States.
Greetings from South Korea. Love watch these videos

It's all fun to me except when it gets aggravating.
Bo Lambert is right. Rubber on the winshield first. Pull it in with a cord from inside the car.
Keep up the good content. Cheers from Australia.
Actually he's not. If it's a locking bead type of glass then you do exactly as I did. Well exactly except break the glass. 😂
Oh wow............ Great vid!!!! 👍👍

Ya know what'd let the frustration out is blasting those horns under the hood lol!
Love the hat!
John Deere is from my home town Moline Illinois
I would have done what you done and fixed the old one you are a real mechanic not just a parts changer
Never give up
Perseverance always pays off
You are an excellent mechanic
Preshate it.
A long way to go on the old girl but you’re making progress. Nice job!
Keep that old truck. Lots of uses for it. You can add handy things to it as things come up. Besides, you got too much work in to it.

We have all learned a lot with your help. Great job and content. Thanks

Perfect farm truck , possibly the nicest most luxurious farm truck ever.
Dodge has a distinctive sound when starting, not a bad job on the roof. Keep going on the truck i know i would
Great Perseverance!! like life that truck is a "Win some Lose Some" proposition! Great Work! Love watching your Vid's!

Great video and keep up the great content and I like to fix everything too as cheep as possible.. keep it real.. Like your saying " little bit at a time.. Cheers.
Sometimes you just have to work with what you have. That cab was pretty mashed. The fact it has a windshield at all is an accomplishment.
This is becoming my favorite channel

Excellent video Chad :) yes nightmare Dodge truck that is for and should be nickname too !
hahaha i was a mechanic at the school and them buses have right at 3 miles of wiring down them, every time i had electrical issues, the dang head light switch every time, them international plastic switch housing melt and send the whole system into the twilight zone
If you had any paracord it would of been a great help to you installing the windscreen. Oh I felt your pain and frustration Chad all anyone can ever do is their best. I like and respect your determination great video and as always keep her lit
mopars are awesome no better love them but to this day they are funky wired and test most a mechanics ability good job ty for the entertainment
Preshate it. I have sometimes "dreamed" of an apocalypse just so I could build crazy stuff! 🤣
@@ThisNThatGarage May not have to wait much longer under the tyranny we're experiencing. Being from Canada, we're already suffering due to that rainbow sock wearing, fake feminist, tootie fruity pixie-boi , commie sell-out in Ottawa. :)
I am saying a prayer for you
You have the patience of Job
Boy id love to know the history of that old pepsi chevy van!💗
👍Good video. Kinda the reason why I’ve always been a Chevy fan.
is that the intro to Bad Medicine by Bonjovi at the end of your video? btw great video. it was worth the wait.
Windscreen repair kit seals cracks.
For proper stability, there should be a capacitor on both the input and output of the voltage regulator. A series input diode should be added for reverse polarity protection.
I've seen ppl use a string to replace a windshield maybe you should've tried that. Awesome videos brother
This old truck makes me wanna get the ole flatbed I got up and going again. I’m a Chevy guy but I got a 72 ford F350 flatbed has the 360FE in it. It lost all oil pressure suddenly and it needs brake work
That makes sense you're right about fixing that starter
Remember " No pain No gain " you ll be alright . Semper Fi !!!
Pour superglue along the edges of cracks on the topside and it'll save the cracks from spreading
Thanks!
Preshate that! It means a lot!
I think you are to put the rubber around the window and use some small rope around the rubber to pull it into the window hole.
No that's not how you put this type of windshield in.
I like how you keep saying lord have mercy it's hot out here you're very very funny you really do not like the heat😂
I bet your health insurance providers cringe when they watch some of your videos.😂. I enjoy the videos. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Some jobs are for professionals 😂😂 I give you credit tho you are determined. Love the videos ❤
Interesting on the belt sander thing. I'll have to remember that.
This man is one strong dude
That grille looks nice & straight 👌
Good info to know. 👍
I had a 70 Chev truck and I put the windshield seal on the window first wrapped twine around the part that seals in the windshield frame about three times wrapped around and as you lay it and you unwind it and it sets the window into the metal frame that’s a good way to do it I did it alone to
That's not how you do it when it has a locking strip.
Put that bucket of bolts by the roadside with a FREE sign...youbhave waaaay more patients than I ever would
I will preface by saying I have dozens of 72 -80 dodge trucks and I can say that as much as everyone thinks they are parts interchangeable they kinda aren't. I don't know what year that thing is but it's almost definitely not a 79. The driver's door might be but the rest is 74 or earlier. I still love it and I hate to see a guy get frustrated and blast dodge when obviously it's previous owners were complete butchers.
Well all considering I think you're doing great that truck would have been just left in the woods for most people......
The windshield tool that you said looks like a weapon is for pulling the lockstrip into the windshield rubber gasket..
This should go on one of your merch t-shirts: “well! It’s the next day”
Greetings from the British Channel islands Chad 🇯🇪 if you don't keep the Dodge truck at least keep the winch I reckon that little machine proved its worth if the truck didn't plus I am sure you could mount the winch to other trucks front or rear of the vehicle a winch can always be a handy thing to have especially if you need to pull stuff or other vehicles
