Being a retired "maintenance mechanic" I have really enjoyed your video's more than you can ever imagine. The first thing I do when I see a new post from your site is hit the thumbs up because I know I'm in for a great video. Keep up the good work , you make my day with your wit and knowledge of the "mechanical monsters" from the woods. Good luck with your channel, and I hope that you and yours have a blessed new year.
I hope you don't give up on the w300 it's a cool truck being 4wd and 4sp club cab. But it doesn't matter what your working on all your videos are entertaining to watch and educational.
That's a frustrating truck for sure. Sometimes a project needs to be passed on to a new owner. I'm sure you could fix all the problems but if you lost your like for it, it will never be worth it. Thanks for dropping a video this weekend. I hope you and your family have a Happy New Year!
Of all my Lube-Tube subscriptions This N That Garage is by far the most anticipated online time of the week where I get to sit back and relate to what Chad has in store for us this time. Got some cold liquid snacks 🍺 and a few slabs of 🍕🍕🍕🍕 and the phone is unplugged. Augh--Ya ! "Let's Go Do Somethin" Tennessee Style ⌚ Back after watching. Wow, what an episode.. There were a lot of up's & downs in this video, and just when I thought this rags to riches Cinderella story was going to the Ball, it looks like we have to take her behind the barn and do the right thing. This evil truck has nothing on "Christine," or "The Car" The ol timers fix tickled my heart. Happy New Year ✝👑 🙏
I was out in the garage for this cold making videos too and I'm ready for spring. Was expecting actual snow from that "blizzard" and instead got an inch tops and the sub zero temps everybody in the mid west got. Stay safe and stay warm.
Its been an enjoyable series, definitely a learning experience. Something simple that just worked wouldn't have given us the same entertainment or troubleshooting tricks so thanks for sticking at it and putting it altogether! I'm also someone who doesn't like to be beat so I get your drive to keep going through the cold, rain, snow etc along with the overthinking of what it could be while lying in bed 😅
I know your struggles with that Dodge. The company I worked for in the early 80s had two Dodge vans that shared an issue. They would run fine for various amounts of time and turn themselves off while driving, usually on the highway. After 20 to 30 minutes they would restart. Our mechanics couldn't figure them out because when they were in the shop they never acted up. One eventually got wrecked and the other blew it's trans and got sold.
i admire your time and patience on that truck and in the end you did figure out the miss ... so if nothing else you learned some thing new that most people didnt know... have a great new year !!
Oh also, If you by chance read this one.. I am curious (only 14 minutes in, but seen all the videos so far) i've wondered if it's just a worn out motor. She's just seen her best days and is time to go to pasture.. : ) One other thing, the shaking and all, maybe bad worn motor and transmission mounts?? Worn body mounts? Dunno it's tough but I hope you resolve this one.. I'm going crazy over here watching you go crazy of this truck!!! edit: well, at 20:00 in, clearly that's not it *not the motor mounts or any of that at least.. man this motor!! OH MY
Thanks for sharing your older friend wisdom. I wish younger folks would respect the older generation’s. I also agree with your choice to let the old box of bolts to rust into oblivion !!!!
Just changed the valve stem seals on my 03 ram 1500 4x4 with 5.7 hemi Perseverance does pay off Keep up the great work Happy New Year looking forward to seeing your videos in 2023 May Gods Blessings shine upon you always
The thing I enjoy about watching you is I thought I was the only one that all of what you go through is the story of my fixing things lately. Your persistence keeps me going.
My father had a truck like this one in the 70s, he bought it new, about 3 years after he bought it it developed the random misfires, it was horrible, he still ran it for about a year, Dad always said: if it starts go. It always started immediately. He ran into a mechanic friend and he told him of the issue, his friend told him: bring it in, I'll have it fixed in an hour. His friend had already listened to the truck, when my Dad arrived he immediately replaced the electronic ignition module and the truck ran better than ever. The old timer told you it's ignition and the one part you didn't replace was the module...... I think I'd get a new one at this point. Great videos!
Your patience, Chad, is epic! I’ve had vehicles like this, where no matter how much work you pour in, they just beg for more and more and more and give nothing back. I wound up giving mine away. That said, don’t feel too badly for not winning. It was an entertaining episode and an instructional one. Your troubleshooting methodology is very educational. Thanks for sharing it with us!!
I know the struggle as well bud on a stubborn vehicle. I have two of them down right now. Especially my 1995 Ford Taurus SHO. I actually like these long series you have on the struggles because you and we learn new things along the way. Keep it up bud I love this stuff! 😂
I've driven many miles in Dodge medium duty trucks in the late 70's early 80's and I've seen many weird problems . 318 with brand new distributer cap , one day later it's cross firing inside the cap , all the terminals were cooked . Another time ,pull up to gas pump , shut off 318 , won't restart . Camshaft gear split in two . Another , screen inside gas tank collapses after 5 minutes of driving , keeps running but can only go 30 mph . We also had a 1978 D350 with a 400c.i. and 4 speed , that truck never failed but sometimes after a couple hour drive the exhaust manifolds would be glowing cherry red . The manifolds never cracked tho. Also had a D600 with a 361 c.i. , that thing was so cold blooded , you had to pump the gas pedal 20 times , with the choke pulled out , before it would fire up .
I have to say even though that truck has been tough you did stick with it and you diagnostic on the truck we're very informative and spot on I give you 5 stars for great content
Lots of patience, Chad! We had a saying when I was young, if you have a lemon of a vehicle, jack up the radiator cap and slide a new one under it! Happy New Year!
I hope you and mama had an amazing Christmas together, hopefully with other family members too. I'm sure that you ate way too much excellent southern cooking!!!(That's a given, right?!!! Lol!!!) Anywhooo, your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorite!!!! Your knowledge of motors and vehicle related stuff is pretty impressive!!! Plus, you're a pretty darn funny guy!!! Thanks for bringing us along on these vehicle adventures, Chad!!!! Here's to This and That Garage growing by leaps and bounds in 2023!!!!! Happy New Year to you and yours!!!!
Oi M8! Yeah it's summertime for you guys. What part of Oz are you in? I've got many friends all over AU, from Adelaide, Sydney.... just everywhere! 💙🇦🇺💙
Chad, I was disappointed to learn that you were still having a problem with the miss on the Dodge. I am happy to learn that the problem is solved. Happy New Year.
Wow Chadd what a ....... mid 70s Dodge .no this series has helped more people than you will know. You have demonstrated the testing and reasoning for that testing, that in itself just opend a few doors and turned on a light, thank you Central California watching
Sometimes they're in the junkyard cuz that's the best place for them. You gave it your best and then some. No shame in cutting your loses. Happy holidays.
So glad you got it sorted I was waiting for this video. It's hot here in the Phillipines it's where I stay in the UK winter before gong back in the spring. Happy new year, cheers for the video.
I like this truck. It has spent so many years being jury rigged that now it needs to be truly fixed. Once you get everything fixed, i bet it will be a descent truck.
I e been driving my 1974 Dodge W-100 since 1976 to high school in the US Army for 27 years and still working to this day best truck I’ve ever owned retired US Army Sargent Major Gamsby
Your patience is admirable Chad. But I think I know exactly what it needs. Take the radiator cap off of it, drive something else up under it, and put the cap back on. That thing is jinxed. 🥺
Great video. Learned a lot about diagnosing problems. I know it might be frustrating for you to go through all these issues, but it makes for great content. If you had no issues, you’d have no channel (or at least, a channel that wasn’t very interesting). So… keep finding these trucks with their gremlins! Happy New Year!
I put a tiny bit of grease on the keepers to keep them from twisting and falling.. I know you dab Vaseline on there, probably does the same if it's on the valve stem, but I'd definitely go CRAZY without my little magnet
Pull that motor and git’er fixed. You’re a smart fella. I thought you’d already pulled it by now. May GOD Bless you, your family and friends. Happy NEW Year brother!
Bubba for some reason i feel like its that ignition box and resister block grounding off and on . i would put new ones on and go from there . Happy and safe New Years !!!
I did a ground up build on a 73 Dodge w200, and it fought me every step of the way. I would fix one thing, and I’d move on just to find something else broken. I did that for a damn year. That said, my truck, much like yours, was abused and neglected for decades. Don’t get too mad at that old pickup, she’s playing the hand she was dealt. Them old tin grills are pretty tough. A cab swap, new wiring and a rebuild on that tired 360 would be cool, but you gotta love the truck to want to invest that kind of time in it… which is what I did. And it was brutal, but I think worth it.
As always.....Woo hoo!!! Last Fri of 2022 & best thing we could have is a video from Chad to round out my roller coaster year! Happy New Year everyone! 💙🙏🏼💙 P.S. They're justly named when they chose to call em "Dodge" cause, although that's the founder's surname, Dodge -ing those things are why you should do! What day is your young friend's birthday on? I'll be half a century on the 25th of January myself, Good Lord willing. Oh yeah..... I ordered me a t-shirt! 😉
Or, they should've called them "Dodgey". Actually, I had a '99 Dodge Ram 4x4 with a V-10. Passed everything but a gas station. 4 inch lift kit with 33's. It was a nice truck. Till the gas prices took off.
All This N That Garage content is really enjoyable. This episode made me start thinking about the rough idle on my Ranger. I just went out and pulled the EGR valve on that dude and clean the carbon out of it. Ranger runs smooth at idle again! So, thank you for the inspiration!
I suggest the best fix is a for sale sign on the windshield. Follows the old adage "sometimes the car/Truck wins". Apparently it was the trucks turn to win, good try though. Fun to watch the good effort.
Sometimes, we get the bear, and sometimes, the bear gets us. Anyone who's wrenched on cars has been their brother, and I think you're making the right call. Anything can conceivably be fixed but how much money and how much time do you have to spend.
I've enjoyed this series and I'm sorry it's been at your expense, I do admit That a part of me wants to see you conquer this POS, make it right and useable, happy New year to you and yours
Hey man glad you enjoyed your Christmas and good to hear an update on the shop Sorry I’m terribly with names please forgive but I’m going to say Chad nice video and I hope you and your family the very best PEACE ☮️
I have owned many 318"s starting in 1959. I ran into this situation a long time ago. I think that carb is not the right one for this engine. I think the vac advance needs a ported source and has instead an unported source that probably went to the air cleaner (like another comment mentioned). Carb was suspect in the first place with the weird blocking screws and all. Great video sequence sir! Thank you so much....
Smoke machine from Amazon. Less than $100. One of the best tools I've ever bought. Would have found that leak. No need to run the engine. Just hook up and watch where the smoke comes put. 😁👍
I had a old amd 586 computer like this once I went through so many hours and lost so much sanity trying to get it running I even swapped the motherboard and had another computer guy work on it. I officially declared it cursed and scrapped pretty much the whole thing
ill be dawgged hadnt heard of vacuum can leakin in 30 years but u know fuel injection took that away lol im sure glad u found it lord that brot back memories of when i was 13 years old workin on old ford comet sure brangs good memorys of the good ole days happy new year keepem commin
I had that same '77 dodge with 360ci engine in it years ago. I think you need a new distributor cap, since mine tended to get scale built up on the contacts from the arcing from the rotor. I'd replace both the rotor and cap before anything, just to make sure that's not the problem. The next place where problem could be is the electronic ignition module is failing. None of those are expensive parts to replace, just to be sure it's not the cause. I used to road set my timing for optimum performance at 70 mph. I also after leaded gas ended, just to put 1/2 to cup of oil into my gas tank to get rid of "ping" due to lower octane of newer fuel, that developed with the newer gasoline. I swapped to hotter spark plug, from the J14Y up to J15y to avoid burnt oil buildup on the spark plugs. I see you have the original old heater hose valve still on there. I decided to quit replacing it since it tended to rust and make it hard to use the on/off cable inside the cab. Instead I soldered 1/2" copper pipe onto a copper valve and put that to replace the old heater hose valve. I would in summer leave the valve open just a wee bit to allow some flow through the heater core, then in late fall and early spring I'd leave it about halfway open, and in winter open for full flow for plenty of inside cab heat. That was cheaper than replacing the standard heater hose valve and still lasting great for years till I finally sold it after it was 25 years old to someone who wanted a "vintage" tagged truck.
Thoroughly enjoyed the series on the truck Chad, how else do folks learn if it weren't for folks like yourself. I'd wager a small bet it'll get ya & you'll be back at it in the future🤣🤣 All the best for 2023 to you and your family.
I think your compression tester is leaking back the pressure in if it alternate between vaccum and compression too fast. Very weird engine failure for sure...
Excellent video Chad :) also did that intake have small hose near carb goes in air breather snorkel on for heat riser flapper like 350 Chevrolet V8 motor in truck or cars and does bet that cure problems on Backfire too ! Also yes that truck sure does puzzles me for 318 problems for sure 👍 and bet understand what Dodge name stands for Don't, Over, Do, Get , Easy that Mr. Doc Dodge a long-time friend tell me always he works his magic on Mopar always! Happy New Year 2023 Chad and hope have safe weekend too!
Now I don’t feel so bad when I work on my truck knowing I’m not the only one who goes one step forward and several steps backward. I have owned this truck for 7 years and I still haven’t been able to drive a full year without having to do some kind of mechanical work on it it in one way or another. I keep hoping though👍👍
Exactly the opposite Chad,I think we all watch you because you don’t give up! If they were all easy it would be boring.I’ve been around vehicles 50years,and your content is awesome man!Happy New Years
I am glad to see that people are interested in getting old trucks running the sound of old trucks running is music to my ears

I hope you don't give up on it. I would keep it! Happy New Year everyone!

Dont be so down on yourself, Life is not just rainbows and waterfalls! you did your best, and thats allways enough. well done.
No failure here. Just hours of good old entertainment!

That truck is haunted. Oh the next time you struggle like you have on this pos call the wise young man! 👊😂 Enjoyed all of this. 🙏🇺🇸
Short piece of water hose is best thing I’ve found to listen for noises on the engine, works great too!
Your patience is admirable Chad. But I think I know exactly what it needs. Take the radiator cap off of it, drive something else up under it, and put the cap back on. That thing is jinxed. 🥺

I put a tiny bit of grease on the keepers to keep them from twisting and falling.. I know you dab Vaseline on there, probably does the same if it's on the valve stem, but I'd definitely go CRAZY without my little magnet

My daddy used to say. There comes a time the time has come. R. I. P. Old truck. Lol. Thanks for sharing. God bless.

Buddy, I feel you on that cold
It got down to -10 degrees here in Putnam County Christmas weekend going into it.
Have a Happy & Safe New Year

I'd wager a small bet it'll get ya & you'll be back at it in the future🤣🤣
All the best for 2023 to you and your family.
Enjoyed watching ... you had a lot more patience than I would have! ... Time to go back to a Chevy!
I think u should call the old dodge breaker box always breaking and the wiring issues lol always something appreciate you making videos
I think your compression tester is leaking back the pressure in if it alternate between vaccum and compression too fast.
Very weird engine failure for sure...
my legs my legs i cant feel my legs .MERRY XMAS MATE safe and healthy 2023 never change your sense of humor and your attitude
Well now you know to check vacuum canisters when troubleshooting future problems 😂
Put a for sale sign on it
Ran good when parked 😂
Sounds like you need to buy it!
The youtuber Dylan Mccool would buy that in a heart beat. He is a dodge man through and through and he lives in tennesee. He loves his dodges.
Great Effort, I know that feeling of doubt when you try everything.
Great content love it hope this year you get to 1/4 million subscribers happy new year to you and family
I feel your pain….Dodge doing dodge things!
It may give you a hard time but by god does it ever make for great content 🤣
I figured everybody is sick of seeing the pile of bolts!
Exactly the opposite Chad,I think we all watch you because you don’t give up! If they were all easy it would be boring.I’ve been around vehicles 50years,and your content is awesome man!Happy New Years
Actually I have really enjoyed the series. Thank you for taking the time to post.
