here is an idea, every tasty sandwich that scores above 7, should go into a playlist. that way, i ... and a lot of other people will have a sure fire way of making a quick meal throughout the week. Your channel is a goldmine as is, but this is my suggestion to ... plus it up a little bit.
Oh my LORD... this seems absolutely divine. I feel like there's so much versatility with it too, like instead of tahini sauce you could add a bit of heat to it - or heck, if you're feeling bold, then maybe some horseradish sauce. (Not prepared - the sauce is the stuff with mayo and other things in it)
I've been, VERY slowly but surely, been making a dish from every African country over the past few months. Made the hawawshi not long ago, but I made the outer dough from scratch. Gosh it was so good. I sprinkled the top of the dough with sesame seeds and black cumin seeds.
Love the way this channel introduces me to sandwiches that I've never heard of, and I now crave desperately. This one looks so simple too. Going to have to make it. Keep up the excellent videos :)
WOW THAT'S A GENIUS IDEA!!!! I never thought of putting in the mince in the bread then cooking it all together in the oven. I will definitely try this once things get a better!!!
I'd imagine that some of the locals spread a little tahini on that sandwich as well - probably several different kinds of condiments. -Knew this one was going to be yummy.
I knew this one was going to be good with increasing confidence at each ingredient, and you know even more that the sandwich is a winner when all you do to plus it up is add a single tasty sauce. After the nightmare from Jan 2 it's nice to have a solid 10 on the board already too!
I’ve never had this but I LOVE Egyptian cuisine. The spices they use makes their food so flavorful. I think the only plus up I would do with this ( depending on the flavor) is just a tiny bit of sliced onion.
That excess moisture from the ground onion, peppers, and parsley is packed with flavor and would be really, really good mixed with tomato juice for a little afternoon pick-me-up. Also would be good in a lot of ground beef recipes, like meatloaf or stuffed cabbage.
I know you've done a version of a crisp sandwich from New Zealand, but you need to have a crisp sandwich from Ireland. Tayto Cheese and Onion Crisps, Irish butter and white bread. That's it. Simple and Glorious! You can also spice things up by putting a slice of ham in there too. It's a true Irish delicacy
I'm vegan but I make this with vegan mince (sometimes beyond meat, sometimes another brand but similar). It's such a great party slider. I got the idea from the channel MiddleEats which is great for all kinds of dishes from the region.
Also, my father (my whole family is white Dutch but I grew up in a multicultural urban neighbourhood) used to make this for parties when I was a kid and it was always my favourite
Isn’t that almost exactly the same as the Lebanese arayes? There’s a few more spices in the version of arayes that I’ve made, but otherwise, it’s the same. I use the recipe created by Obi on the YT channel MiddleEats, so I’m sure he could answer any questions you may have on the origins of his recipe. Regardless, the sandwich is delicious.
Not too long if what you’re looking for is really crisp pita bread. If you want soft pita, maybe cook the filling first? It will probably be great either way.
@@SandwichesofHistory my point is pitta cooks very quickly, 5 minutes at the most, after 20 minutes it turns to dust, cooking the meat separately is the answer

Just today I was looking for a list like that.
I see what you did there. Nice. And I do love that idea. Maybe after I turn in my cookbook on the 15th I'll fire that up.
I have been to Egypt twice and sandwich culture is alive. I had a number of pita sandwiches and I will 100% try the Hawawshi.
It is so rare to see a food vid where the host is eating it at the 1:30 mark. I'll be making this for tea tonight, cheers!

That look you got after biting into the sandwich says it all.
This puts the "waw" in Hawawshi! Those inhalations after the first bite told me all I needed to know.

10! 10! 10! My NEW favourite sandwich! I'm making this right now!
The sounds that followed after taking that initial bite certainly had me believing it is a keeper lol

Seeing it go into the oven you just know its going to be amazing

Oh yeah... brilliant idea of cooking the meat INSIDE the pita...will wonders never cease~
Nice to see you make something that doesn't make you gag every once in a while!
Reminds me of tacos dorados where you put raw seasoned meat into a tortilla then fry. Meat + bread is a universal good meal.

The crunch alone, sold me.
Ill be making these as burgers on the grill this Saturday. Wow!
Pretty tasty looking hamburger-ish sandwich!Have to give this one a go!

I like the way you think. Doing that next time.
Looks like a great pita Thx for the video
Brilliant plus up and the sandwich on its own sounds delicious, too!
Whoa I am going to make this!
I sincerely hope this is included in your cookbook, that I have preordered. If not I see another on the horizon.
Alas, it did make this one. Hopefully there will be a Sandwiches of History 2: This time it's personal lol
Woooowwwwww!!! Looks awesome!
For a plus-up, I would actually borrow something from north a bit - I bet a slather of cooling tzatziki would be great too!
Beautimous!! Both options look delish! I'll be trying them both.

@@SandwichesofHistory Hahaha fantastic!
Looks tasty
I swapped ‘Impossible Meat’ for the lamb (and added more oil), it was great!
Nice!
This looks amazing! 😋
this looks incredible. once again, the International Sandwiches win! your plus-up sounds perfect.
That sounds really good!
Pair with a Lager?
I mean, yes!
I would absolutely destroy this, it looks SO good.
But the big question would you make this again? It looks and sounds delish, but a lot of steps.
I would, for sure. It wasn't that bad, step-wise tbh.
That looks great - reminds me of a lamacun in a way. I'd love to try that
delish
being vegan, I make a variation of this with mushrooms, walnuts, and chickpeas, in place of the meat. It's an absolute FAVE.

Me, spacing out at the beginning: Wait, jalapenos? In Egypt? Oh, 1971, right.
Is a pita bread a sandwich? Always considered It to be it's own thing e.g. is a bagel a sandwich?
You just had to close that drawer before launching into this. 😂
But sandwich looks delish.

U plused it up withtaziki
no...tahini sauce ua-cam.com/video/9N0W1MEYXAM/v-deo.html . Tatziki would be tasty though.
I would make that for dinner but mister stomach already has his sites set on the olive cheese 😂
ohhh yes tahini...
I recommend middle east eats UA-cam channel
Where’s the salt?
Didn't need it. And I like my salt.
plus up with sour cream
Egyptians love their jalapenos
SIEVE WATCH: INTERNATIONAL
20 minutes is way too long for pitta bread,
Not too long if what you’re looking for is really crisp pita bread. If you want soft pita, maybe cook the filling first? It will probably be great either way.
Not sure I understand your comment. The meat inside the pita needs to cook fully. And in process, the pita crisped up nicely.
