    Excellent and practical explanation. Mine got forged pistons and will get more supporting mods before making more power.

    Im very late to this video Steve but thank you for this. Im a bit more in depth than the typical "Stage 2 bro" Subaru guy but I love doubling down on my knowledge and I can always appreciate someone who takes time out their lives to dish out more knowledge to the community for anyone that needs it.

    My knowledge of Subaru is limited. So I’m loving this material. And I’m a technician also.

    Thank you for explaining this like I’m 12.
    Not bashing, actually a compliment. I understand what I’m looking at but there’s a lot of lingo I don’t keep up with and you did a great job dumbing it right down for me. I have a very good understanding of what this looks like now, thank you much!

    My guess is the cam timing was wrong on the bad side? (Besides a bad tune, vacuum or boost leaks, etc.)

    Hey, you said upgrade the turbo? Wouldnt that increase the probability of detonation? Sorry im not an expert.

    Don’t sti’s have knock sensors? Doesn’t sound like they are doing there job.

    • @stevetuned
      @stevetuned  4 роки тому +2

      The problem becomes when the tune is modified to aggressively where the knock sensor can’t pull enough timing fast enough , this is actually the case with pretty much any car not just the sti

    Great video. I was wondering what exactly ringland was. I mean I kind of knew but had never really seen it like that. I owned/drove a stage 3 speed6 that took all the punishment I could give it but was worried about the subbie because everyone says ringland right away.

    Great info, this is not just a Subaru issue either, go watch cleetus McFarland he got to spicy on Timing on his corvette and fried multiple pistons, literally melted on of the pistons......so this goes for any car on the market, poor tuning+aggressive driving = boom

    That's something I think people over look. Just going with a bigger turbo and fuel upgrade, and shooting for the same HP is alot better. Nothing is being stressed and over worked.

    You mean a vf39 at 25+ psi isnt gonna be efficient and keep the air cool?? Lol this video was super informative, interesting to be able to see how it was detonating and the affects of that on the bearings...

    You got the cyl numbers wrong.
    LH side is cyl 2&4
    RH side is cyl 1&3

    • @stevetuned
      @stevetuned  4 роки тому +1

      You are correct, however the pistons in the video were not layed out next to each hole they actually came out of which is where the confusion is , sorry about that I should of clarified that in the video
