- 'IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS OF THE MORNING'
arranged by Roderick Dunk
Trombone: Carol Jarvis www.caroljarvis.com
Ensemble: NedSym Lite
Filmed for the Lätzsch Trombone Festival: www.trombonefestival.eu
Delizioso. Incantevole.
Beautiful arrangement and very soulful tromboning...
A sound similar to Tommy Dorsey, yes, but a phrasing all of her own. Thank you, Carol.
Very, very special.
I was the only girl back in school who played the trombone. Llayed it for only 7 years. I don't play it anymore, but I love it when I see other women playing such an amazing insturment. This is beautiful.
yeah i agree, pick up the trombone again! i couldn't imagine life without my horn.
Shouldn't you love a musicians ability regardless of their gender? Why women in specific? Maybe those women suck, there is no guarantee that being a certain gender also entails talent, ability, knowledge etc....
Lovely sound, lovely playing what a beautiful trombone player.
Thank you Edgar!
Carol Jarvis just gained another fan.
Beautiful phrasing with silken legato. And the entire ensemble is fabulous,, playing a masterful arrangement.
Tone is pure....a blend of flesh and brass.....what else can I say!
Add wind.
@@bradleybunk6463 Explain!?
Wunderschön!
Thank you Albert!
Legato playing that reminds me of Dick Nash. Beautiful.
Thank you Sam! 🙏🏻
Ah, Dick Nash - as I type this, he is 96 years old. He and his older brother Ted (saxophone) were both playing for Mancini way back in the 50s with John Williams (only age 92) on piano for Peter Gunn.
MEU DEUS QUE SOM DIVINO. QUANTA INSPIRAÇÃO E COMPETENCIA MUSICAL. PARABENS CAROL.
You are possibly today's best ballad player. I could listen to you all night.
Ahhhh that you so much! I am planning to record more ballads soon!
@@CarolJarvisMusic Can't wait! I hope you don't mind that I publicized your most recent up-load "in My Veins" over on the trombone forum. It seems to have gotten a good reaction there.
Ooh I’d like to see that - is there a link?
@@CarolJarvisMusic YT don't like off-site links in comments so I sent it to your email address. They are mostly discussing your podcast.
This is so good!
Thank you! 🙏
Terrific playing and a classy, smooth, warm tone.
Beautiful
clap clap clap clap
beautiful!
Enjoyed it. Very nice mood you establish.
When we did this song with your jazz band and the best part of the bone is bass
Lindo som . Suave , doce e apaixonante .
I am part of that generation that is called baby boomers...children of parents who lived the nightmare of WWII and the Korean War. This lullaby is what rocked us to sleep many nights. Thank you,
Oh wow! Thank you for listening 🙏
WOW
Thanks Bob!
BRAVOOOO
Stars and strips
What mouthpiece do you play on?
I play on a 6 and a half Faxx (which I believe is a copy of a Bach 6 and a half). It was just in the case when I bought the trombone!
Carol, My Favorite Trombonist The Late Legendary Tommy Dorsey Would Be So Proud Of You!!
That’s such a lovely thing to say, thank you!
At age 76, I have heard a lot of trombones. The purity of your tone is beyond anything I have heard. I always thought there was a territory between the trumpet and the trombone that has not been explored. You did it. Congratulations
In between a trumpet and a trombone is a french/ tenor horn
@@afloatingpineapple6170 MIght I disagree: French horn and ternorhorn belongs to the horn family of instruments, whereas trombone an trumpet belong to the trumpet family. The sound is completely different and her sound is fantastic, beyond my possibility of explanation
You may not have heard Don Lusher then? Try to look out his "I'll Close My Eyes", recorded with Ted Heath and his Music (on "The Instruments of the Dance Band" from 1960): ua-cam.com/video/SKx6vaWsgLg/v-deo.html
@@basilpeewit3350 there are many fine trombone players, Don Lusher and Carol of course are in this group. Bart van Lier, Jiggs Whigham, Mark Nightingale, just to name a few one who live in Europe.
Ahhh thank you so much!
What sensitivity you possess. A beautiful sound and style that is like tapping into a sweet memory that brings a tear to your eye. Just magnificent.
Well said!
Awww thank you so much Josh! That means so much 🙏🏻
Thank you Davhuf!
A very nice piece of music and thank you Carol Jarvis for playing this in a nice way.
Carol you are up there with the very best trombone players with out doubt.
Very fine playing. I would like to hear this with the Mic much closer. You're picking up the room, and I suspect your tone is even better than it sounds here.
WOW.......
I'm going into my second year as a jazz trombone major and I was really happy to find your videos tonight it's really inspiring to hear a really great solo trombonist like you and it makes me want to become the best player I can
I listen to this and "When I think of you" almost every night it's beautiful, it helps me sleep
Maria, thank you for such a lovely comment 😊
She's à player
Carol , I hope you are feeling well, you give me so much encouragement just by listening to you hun 😊 I love your tone , fantastic musicians backing you on this 👍maybe one day we will do a duet together i would feel privileged to be by your side playing , keep it up girl , Mr Rath and yourself do justice to each other, in seriously thinking of buying a Rath horn , they sound solid
Very nice ! I feel your heart is in every note you play !! Thank You :)
OH CAROL!!! QUE LINDO É OUVIR VC TOCANDO. MELODIA HARMONIOSA E SOM AVELUDADO. HAVIA PERDIDO SEU CONTATO NO UA-cam. HJ VOLTEI A ENCONTRA-LA.. PARABÉNS.
Absolutely beautiful! The arrangement, the players, and Carol's gorgeous sound. You've won yourself a fan.
It's one of the best version I heard from that tune and a special thumb up for Roderick Dunk!!!
So beautiful I cry every time I hear you begin to play. So grand and elegant i wish I could hear it live!!! Keep up the amazing work.
Lots of brash, fast playing Trombonists flooding UA-cam right now, this is what the Trombone was designed for, beautiful, smooth and lyrical music Looks like I'm 5 years late to the party!!
Bless you Peter! Better late than never ;-)
I 100 percent agree. I love hearing the note linger before the vibrato. Carol has such a mastery of the high range. During my playing days, I would feel my embouchure tiring. This caused pinching off the high register leaving a forced strained sound. I enjoy hearing the control thru the entirety of the note. Well done.
Thank you so much! I love the high register - I’m definitely most comfortable up there 😊 I was on bass trombone for 2 weeks of gigs recently and properly had to practise for that stuff!!
AWESOME!
Magnifique de justesse, de sobriété, d'émotion ... de vérité ...
Muito bem. Arranjo especial
It´s not easy to find a lady that plays the trombone as you play. Very amazing and nice. Thank you for this gift to my ears. Luis from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Ive been listening to this periodically since it came out. It still gives me goosebumps. Absolutely love this.
Ahhhhhh thank you for returning again and again…. Glad you like it!
Умница ,тембр напоминает Билла Ватроуса...браво!!! Красноярск.
Thank you!!
what apure sound & such a simple uncomplicated arrangemaent
Sometimes, simple is best 😊
Very Nice.
Beautiful!
I am a amateur trombone player myself. I admire the beauty that you play with. You are where I want to be.
What trombone do you play on
Sounds very nice
This is a Rath R1
Carol that sounds so incredibly good ! Reminds me of jj johnson. Remember him with Kai Winding ?
Still listen and watch! Merry Christmas
Fantásticaaa!!!
Touching, beautiful, sensitive, warm, flowing, dreamy. Thank you, Carol!!!!!
Perfect klang and vibrato som Tommy Dorsy.
fantastic is the only word............
Beautiful
A channel for a wonderful trombone player full of lovely comments. How refreshing. The tone is sublime.
Dear Carol: I am an amateur trombone player. The beauty of your playing is what I long for but have yet to achieve. Keep putting out video for the amateur players like me to listen to and aspire to be like. You must be doing something right, since over 53K people have listened to this song.
... Genau so muss das klingen, und nicht anders...
Thank you for inspiring me very much!!! I am the only female trombonist in my school, most of the trombonists in Singapore are dudes :( But, you are a role model to me. So, thank you :D
Sexy solo. So smooth and lyrical.
Carol is an impeccable trombone player, and her rendition of this piece is absolutly superb, and she definately gets my vote!
OMG Carol Jarvis! Time has not withered you!
Beautiful rendition Ms Jarvis

thanks you so much for publishing this great song. I play it an octave lower and never imagined myself ever playing it up. Thanks to your inspiration, I am begining to work on it now.
Superb
Lovely! Both, the melody and the lady...
Your performances are SO beautiful, so expressive- more than any other player and instrument I've ever listened to-I teared up! Thank you for all that you do, truly❤
Ahhh, thank you so much for your kind words!
Carol thank you for the advice.I find you playing and personality very positive and uplifting.Thank you so much for the work and support for cancer patients.
I play for tuba for a hobby not the best when it comes too the fast parts so i prefer these lovely melodies. Your playing is so beautiful the sweet sound .
Hi Carol I am enjoying the way you are handling that monster my band players are learning a lot out of that.
You remind me so much of Watrous, awesome.
Pleasure to hear you play. Thanks for making your performance public!
I’m a female trombone player and i’m so glad i’m not the only one that gets a ring around my lips, haha! Also, she sounded lovely.
Haha! It means we’re playing well 😉
Carol Jarvis yes it does haha!
Que dulzura y sonido más bonito, Enhorabuena.
Top
Thanks Remo!
Gosto muito da sua técnica, quando vc atinge as notas agudas, é perfeita. Parabéns
What a wonderful trombone sound, very nice to hear, just wonderful
Thanks so much 😊
Heavenly!
wow, no words, just feelings. great song and fantastic trombone.
The music you play is just fantastic! Also performed amazingly!
Amazing, just Amazing. You have such a wonderful tone and it sounds so smooth. I female Tommy Dorsey i would say, or a female Jack Jenny. I will listnen and try to get the same crispy sound. Lovley"
Jack Jenney....
Carol, have you considered arranging the Sammy Cahn/Jimmy Van Heusen song "Only the Lonely"? It's such a haunting, lovely melody. I think you would do a beautiful job of playing this. I thought of you listening to Frank Sinatra's version, especially with your string/piano/drums folks.
I’ve actually arranged this too... I just need a bit of money to pay musicians and video crew to do some more videos like this! Hopefully be able to do that one day 👍🏻
I look forward to it. I'm already 64, so don't wait too long, LOL!
Wow amazing tone bravo love it I wish I can this amazing tone someday
Thanks a lot!
Wunderschön!!!
Beautifully played.
Belíssima interpretação, com alma feminina!
congratulation.
Beautiful!
Exquisite music!! Your trombone sound is like velvet and the instrumental ensemble is nothing but great. Congratulations!!!
Thank you!
Bravo!
Wonderful musicianship all round and a very tasteful arrangement. Lovely rendition of a sentimental classic.
Thanks Warren.. very kind of you 🙏🏻
impressive, any tips on high range endurance?
Hi Kame, I always say "air speed" to my students. High diaphragm, solid chops, but don't press on. If you've got fast air speed and the support, then your stamina will get better and better up there.
Carol, you were great. Have you split from Bones Apart? Please let us know. Thanks.
Shbzmakhxs wtf, never seen trombone playing soooo smooth
Bless you Logan! Have you seen my other ballad video too? ‘I Think Of You’ ? I’m planning to record lots more soon too 😊
