Here are some stats from this game. At the end of the game, this is how much mana the players had used on spells and abilities: Josh: 30 Jimmy: 60 Prof: 39 Melissa: 135* Josh, despite playing a 5 color deck, when paying for colored mana used 7 blue mana, 1 red, 3 white, 0 green and 0 black. Melissa, meanwhile, despite her deck being 54% white and 46% green, spent 20 Green mana and 31 White mana to pay for colored mana pips. Prof and Jimmy were more balanced in their use of mana. At the end of turn 8, Jimmy has spent 43 mana, Melissa, 52, setting the difference at 9. Two turns later, Jimmy has spent 52 mana, Melissa has spent precisely 100. The game ended on turn 12. Jimmy's only instant speed interaction was a turn 0 "smack talk" that later got him killed. Prof, famously, Ninjitsued out Kaseto so he could recast him. This was his only instant speed interaction. Josh responded twice to Melissa, on turn 9 and 11. Melissa played something at instant speed 4 times, on turn 7, 8, 9, and 11. At the end of the game, the total amount of mana used was: 264* White: 34 Blue: 22 Black: 0 Red: 13 Green: 40 Generic mana: 153 *(We were never shown how much mana went into the Chord of Calling, i estimated 6 total mana) And finally, the deck's value, ranked from most to least expensive, using Card Kingdom high-prices: Josh: 7565 dollars Jimmy: 2794 dollars Melissa: 1642 dollars (Josh's tropical island: 654 dollars) Prof: 481 dollars These prices will, naturally, have changed since the release of the video, but it is unlikely that the order of the decks have changed a lot. So even though Melissa had the most explosive start, her deck was far from the most expensive. Josh, who had the most expensive deck by a long shot, was also the least influential player in the game, his fevered vision notwithstanding. All in all, this is one of my favorite episodes, and I just wanted to look at its stats.

I love how Melissa's skill actually shone through here with the quality of the deck, her unexpected play of destroying her own enchantment to not get blown out and her bluff
It's even better than it seems, because she definitely had that planned from the start of the turn. She had Sterling Grove, which gave all her enchantments shroud, so if that was still on the battlefield she wouldn't have been able to blow up the Starfield of Nyx. So before she played the Starfield, which would instantly open her up to creature removal, she sacrificed the Sterling Grove to tutor a completely irrelevant enchantment, which I'm 90% sure was just so she could blow up the Starfield if creature removal happened. Which was a safe bet, because Josh had been stuck with cards in hand for a while, and there had never been a previous turn where there was a threatening enough board to use a creature based board wipe. Turns out Melissa's actually pretty good at this.

Sorry it’s a bit of a read! I’ve found that usually by turn 2 I can play Sythis, and get that ramp. And with 4 ways to ramp its easy to get into more cards that allow me to play more lands. Last time I played (last Thursday) I was super happy. Ended up with just about the same starting hand as her. Glacial chasm is fine to play since I can use the acidic slime to break that land, it’s allowed me to build a board and keep controlling my opponents with some of my enchants. I have to keep discarding since I draw so many, but I have lands to play most of what I get, so having wheel of sun and moon allows me to keep myself from milling out, and even if I don’t have that, it’s not hard to dig until I get an enchantment I need or want, play it then discard into my deck. It’s pretty sweet

At 18:00 when Jimmy copied the dragon and attacked with the copy it would had triggered twice, once for each Utvara Hellkite getting two dragon tokens instead. Mistake on him, but everyone else kept their mouth shut!
JuQmadrid fortunately my mistake didn't end up mattering, it's tough to keep track of every little thing when you're responsible for producing and the filming of the episodes as you play a complex game of Edh! -jimmy
ThePowerJack ya only one dragon but utvara says whenever a dragon atks get a 6/6 token. So when he made a copy they both had that effect so 2 tokens are made with one atk.
He made an Utvara copy with Kiki, so there were two on board when the token swung. The trigger in question here is Utvara's, nothing to do with the damage dealt. As stated above, he should have made two 6/6 dragon tokens instead of just one when it swung, since both the original Utvara and the copy would trigger. But no, it would not have effected the game that much as it happens. It's only a little bewildering since it looked like that was the point in doing it in the first place, but I guess he was just thinking more about the attack damage instead.
Those are the go-to sleeves used at Wizards of the Coast. I first noticed them when playing Magic against the Wizards R&D team at PAX East 2015. I had the same reaction you did when I first saw them. They literally have supply lockers in their offices that include tons of these sleeves.
I had never watched a commander game before. I have watched many youtube magic games but they are all static and really hard to follow and somewhat dull. This felt like a mixture of watching a reality show and a yugioh anime episode, and I mean it in a good sense; You can follow the game without having to know everything about it, you dont need to stop and amplify the video to see what a card does and you get each player's insight in real time. This is a series that we can not let go since it has achieved a level of production and editing that rivals and maybe surpasses professional productions. My congratulations to The Command Zone, please keep up the entertaining guests.
The way y’all edited the video made it much more interesting to watch than other MtG gameplay videos. I also loved how y’all each explained your strategies as y’all played your cards. Love it. Keep it up!
@@williamb29348 You don't have to attack with both to get the triggers. It says that whenever a dragon attacks, and there was only one attacker but a trigger from each hellkite
This was a great episode! Good to finally see the Professor on the show! Melissa is a highly skilled player in every regard. The deals enabled multiple players to stay in the game when they would otherwise be dead. I thought Josh was gonna get there but Dromoka hoses control. Well done guys!
I watch a lot of commander on UA-cam and this is honestly the best way to watch it. I can't believe I only just discovered this show after being subscribed for so long.
It was great to see Melissa in a casual setting. She has one of the best poker faces in Magic but it's nice to see her crack a smile. Prof is also a big deal, great content maker and personality.
Reminds me of the time where Vinny board wiped with a yahenni deck and Josh just tapped everything for mana and emptied his hand again that was ridiculous
This show has SUCH great editing, and it's really the most enjoyable Commander Content I've come across. It got me back into the format, and seeing the cross-collaboration of channels like TCC makes me hopeful that more content-creators will be brought onto Game Knights in the future. Thanks for making the shower, and I'm really stoked to check out the new LifeLinker app!!
I built my first non pre-con deck from watching Melissa pilot Karametra. Lol my friends laughed at 1st till I stomped them with an army of 4/4 Angel tokens!!! :)
@@navo6283 to be fair i'm pretty sure that knowing what they could do with that mana he wasn't expecting to have his board intact in the first place, so it could be an error or maybe was on purpose just to appear less threatning. The real question i have is "could you ignore a trigger or is considered an illegal action?", that could have some impact on the game as far as rules go.
So what you are telling me is that it is perfectly ok to forget about your triggered abilities? At least that's what it sounds like you are telling me.
@@navo6283 is not fine, but the question is if it his illegal. I don't think that someone would be disqualified from a tournament only because he forgot to trigger an ability, is the player fault for not noticing it not of the opponent. And as i said maybe he thought that not triggering it was the right decision for some reason, not that it would make a big difference between board wipes and the fact that they were already going to ocus on him
Nikki S. I agree. I have a Sigarda EDH Deck, and right now... I'm planning on creating a Karametra deck! All because of Melissa's inspiring build! Haha
Great episode guys! i recently found out watching these gameplay videos are great for working out! get on the elliptical and just run till the episode is done. Also the boost of adrenaline really helps me get into the ferociousness of the game.
I rewatch this episode over and over again just so I can see the play where: Melissa turns her enchantments into creatures and swings at Josh. Josh responds with an evacuation, trying to bounce all of her creatures (which are enchantments) back into her hand; and Melissa responding by using a sac outlet to destroy her own enchantment to revert all of her creatures back to enchantments. That has to be one of the coolest plays I’ve seen. Oh-and Profs ninjitsu on Jimmy 😂
Wow, the quality of production has come SO FAR, and yet, these original episodes were still absolutely amazing and well made. Glad I'm going back through them all!

Still one of my favorite episodes of the whole series, I keep coming back to it, lol. I'm in the process of (VERY slowly...) building Nekusar and I just picked up Karametra for the distant future. LOVE this game!
Just watched this one again since i just bought the cards for my Karametra angel tribal deck and forgot what she ran in her enchantment cheese deck. But every time i see this episode, i am just disgusted by it. IMO most enchantments are way too cheap cmc wise, and too much of a hassle to remove in time. Wizards and their enchantments :/

I love these videos so much. I have watched all of them, some many of times. But I love going back in time and watching your guy's first Game Knights. Looking at how far you guys have came. It is just fun to think about and experience.
She is one of the coolest guests you guys have had both because she's super skilled but also because all the deal making seemed like such a completely different game than tournament play. Good stuff
This episode was by far my favorite, which is weird because I keep saying that. Watching Melissa play Commander was a super cool experience, especially getting a look into a super spike's perspective on politics and deals which just doesn't happen in high-level magic. Unfortunately Prof didn't really get to show off his deck too much, but that's alright because his banter was A+. Would love to see some more super spikes in future episodes like Marshall or Kenji.
haha, I read your comment before watching the vid, so I skipped a couple of minutes to see her sleeves and I was like: "Maaan, I dont get it! where are the damn sleeves. All I see is Lotus!! Ohhh waaait..." :D but it took some time xD
That was such a great match, everyone was basically on full steam, politics happened, swingy situations happened, Melissa won on grounds of how well she was able to avoid getting blown out, better than everyone on the table. And everyone had so much fun! I play EDH for that moment when everyone's ready to go off and win, and then the interactions happen.
Just love Melisa DeTora, one of the best mtg players of all time and not to mention her influence over mtg in general from her own creativity and experience. Very funny, very cool, hope to see more of her, Josh, Jimmy and Prof in the future of watching this channel!

1 glacial chasm

Bronze hide lion
Sterling grove (probably, I don’t have this card yet.)
@@klenlapis6329 you should def consider adding 2-4 Druid and Cleric classes to your deck. Overkill? Yeah, but damn it’ll make the engine run so much faster churning out even more lands and gaining extra life back per each land card placed
@@aes2621 that’s actually a good point, I’ve recently been banned from playing it with less than 4 people and when I pull it out it’s target number one lol
-jimmy
The Command Zone Keeping track of a kiki jiki token is tough
Was wondering about that... Seemed like a pretty obvious mistake.
Is that a REAL BLACK LOTUS 4:55 ?! Then you realize it's just one of many sleeves...
Those are the go-to sleeves used at Wizards of the Coast. I first noticed them when playing Magic against the Wizards R&D team at PAX East 2015. I had the same reaction you did when I first saw them. They literally have supply lockers in their offices that include tons of these sleeves.
I kind of want those sleeves, can't seem to find them anywhere
Does anyone sell those sleeves? They look sweet!
ZasseG and then you're like hey... that's banned...

Melissa: (20 life) I’m kinda getting low on life.
Jimmy: *Cries in 7 life*
The way y’all edited the video made it much more interesting to watch than other MtG gameplay videos. I also loved how y’all each explained your strategies as y’all played your cards. Love it. Keep it up!
Shouldn't Jimmy get two 6/6 dragons? since kiki jiki made a copy of utvara hellkite, so theres two triggers
Khairul Irzan yep. I was searching to see if someone noticed
Wouldn’t it also have been 24 damage with the Furnace of Rath on the board?
@@GiovanniMattucci The dragon tokens don't come into play attacking
he only attacked with one utvara hellkite
@@williamb29348 You don't have to attack with both to get the triggers. It says that whenever a dragon attacks, and there was only one attacker but a trigger from each hellkite
This was a great episode! Good to finally see the Professor on the show! Melissa is a highly skilled player in every regard. The deals enabled multiple players to stay in the game when they would otherwise be dead. I thought Josh was gonna get there but Dromoka hoses control. Well done guys!
Mike Untalan That Dromoka!!!!!!
I watch a lot of commander on UA-cam and this is honestly the best way to watch it. I can't believe I only just discovered this show after being subscribed for so long.
Yep, the editing, interviews, card close ups etc. make this very easy to follow.
It was great to see Melissa in a casual setting. She has one of the best poker faces in Magic but it's nice to see her crack a smile. Prof is also a big deal, great content maker and personality.
Nick Safford tre
This is the best Game Knights episode imo. I've watched this episode probably 10+ times over the years.
Draw 2 cards...2 cards...4/4 Angel Token...Angel Token...Angel Token...
Made me laugh so hard!!!
Congrats Melissa!
Every time anyone tried to do anything to Melissa she was like okay here are a million things to replace those
Turns out all of us could never possibly out play her in this situation! We should've known better :P
Prof knew what was up and he should have killed her before striking that deal. But thats commander I love it.
Dillon Morrow The professor should have taught her a lesson. No pun intended
Physiwiz lol yes he should have plus getting a kill with commander damage is awesome.
Reminds me of the time where Vinny board wiped with a yahenni deck and Josh just tapped everything for mana and emptied his hand again that was ridiculous
Professor to Jimmy: "You are nothing"
That hurt me even through the screen.
1:30 The Professor's deckbox tho
.
It’s the top!!!!
check out his most recent video on deck boxes. theyre amazing
Enchantment decks are one of my all-time favourite archetypes, and seeing Melissa play it (and do absurd things) was fantastic n_n
I built my first non pre-con deck from watching Melissa pilot Karametra. Lol my friends laughed at 1st till I stomped them with an army of 4/4 Angel tokens!!! :)
Josh did nothing the whole game! Ma man!
IntEnsE ༄EK no, FEVERED VISIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
18:20 You actually get two 6/6 dragon tokens, because you currently control two Utvara Hellkites that each trigger separately.
Does it make any difference in the end? They were bounced back on the next turn
At the time he didn't know that.
And as i said maybe he thought that not triggering it was the right decision for some reason, not that it would make a big difference between board wipes and the fact that they were already going to ocus on him
I loved seeing the Prof there can he be on game knights more often I would watch it even more plz
He understood perfectly that the aim of a commander game is not to win but to play some shenanigans on people
the prof is my dad
These videos deserve some kind of reward for the editing that goes into them. It’s honestly a work of art.
melissa left that game with her self-confidence recharged!
melissa's deck never ran out of juice! amazing build for karametra!!! 👍👏😂
I feel ppl underestimate Karametra! She has fantastic synergy and support capabilities!
Nikki S. I agree. I have a Sigarda EDH Deck, and right now... I'm planning on creating a Karametra deck! All because of Melissa's inspiring build! Haha
I never thought I would see Karametra be used in competitive. Not only did she use it, she kicked ass with it
Regirex this isnt competitive........
I love how he calls the dog Kiwi, it's interesting because that's what he called Ki Swann his girlfriend in VGHS.
Evan Moak oh ya I frogot about that but vghs is amazing
I expected the professor to be playing Leovold for a small second
Then gave it a second thought
Amigo Rafita me to
I for one am glad he didn't!
Josh Lee Kwai that would not be fun
He enjoys commander too much to be doing the fun police role xD
I think he'd like to be invited back at some point, that deck certainly wouldn't help
We need this group of people on a new episode. what a great way to celebrate how far y'all have come.
I watch this video whenever I feel low and sad. It always cheers me up. Melissa and prof are such wonderful personalities.
that Ranger of Eos playmat, tho.
Beautiful art. Love that card!
No way you watch command zone wth
Great episode guys! i recently found out watching these gameplay videos are great for working out! get on the elliptical and just run till the episode is done. Also the boost of adrenaline really helps me get into the ferociousness of the game.
Love to hear that we're being a positive fitness motivation! Keep it up!
i never played magic with anyone other than family, but the professor is a really interesting character to watch lol
This is still one of my favourite GK episodes all these years later
Amazing episode, I love how easy to follow you make the game. As a newer player it was definitely helpful and interesting! :)
dude this is good content. Im so glad to have seen how far everyone has come. commander is fun - im glad its alive today. watching in #2022 LETS GOOOOOO
These old episodes have so much charm... I love the new episodes, but re watching the old ones are just as good...
I love it when you guys have Melissa on. She’s such a good player
The Commander Knights Videos are easily the most entertaining mtg videos ive ever saw. I do follow a decent amount of mtg youtube channels for a long time and discovered yours some weeks ago, because im gettin more into commander and i pretty much love your videos and hope youll release more of those game knights!! Greetings from germany, keep up the awesome work
I just came back to this video after 4 years and I just realized. Did Josh seriously forget every rhystic study trigger?
How the times have changed
He didn’t forget about Rhystic Study he just dosnt mention it, you can see his hand explode when Melissa draws
They just didn't include it in the edit back then.
This is still my favourite ever Game Knights game. Totally love Melissa's deck. Great vibe between the four of them too.
Been playing standard MTG for 4-5 now on a casual basis and I've gone down a commander rabbit hole with my friends!
Super happy to see how far the show has from its formative days after first watching the more recent episodes!
Good stuff guys! Keep it up! :)
18:00 shouldn't have Jimmy created 2 token? One from the original Utvara, one from the copied.
Yes
Yea, I was searching for this comment
more importantly, why didn't he swing with both hellkites and make 4 tokens?
@@TheRestlessView because one had somoning sickness the other utvara was a mirror breaker copy with haste
Kaseto performed better than I expected, I never really thought much of it before.
I want Melissa’s decklist. I love the threros block and the fact that she made a whole commander deck centered around enchantments and enchantment creatures makes my heart happy
I love enchantment decks!
It costs so much. The cards she played in turn one alone or worth over $200
Dylan Enrigue Huntington yeah, magic be like that sometimes ;-;
“The future of Game Knights is uncertain”
And look how far they’ve come :’)
This will forever remain my favorite episode of Game Knights
I don't even play MTG, but this was very entertaining!
Now this is something we love to hear! Super glad you still found it entertaining as one of our goals is to make the game more accessible.
InKensify you should get into it! Commander is really fun.
InKensify ygo player her hahaha
If you started with Commander 17, you're set for a while. Fat packs help too. Try playing sometime! The Ixalan Pre Release is in two weeks, and you don't need cards, plus if an get your collection off the ground
One year later i watched this and it's the same for me lol
Josh: I hope I can beat prof
Melissa: I hope I can beat prof
Jimmy: *calls his local politician
Yesssssssssssssssss love your show guys! So hyped Prof is in this one.
Ditto!
I'm a new MTG player and this is so much easier to follow than the pro tournaments because you show the cards and explain them. This is great!
Melissa is a cool lady, loved her reaction to the deals thingy. Man, commander is a nice game mode isnt it?
He was talkin' smack.
-The Professor.
Come on Jimmy, Prof swings with a 0/1 and you don't sense shenanigans? Block that thing!
CodenameJD ,,,,, Ya but maybe he wants you to block. P
You're production value is top notch, how is this not more popular?
TedTheZombie We're not sure. Tell your friends. Help us spread the word!
I have never played magic and had no idea what they're all doing... And i loved it! Explained really well, really good pace and all really cool, funny and entertaining players 👍🏻
I have watched this episode a few times already, but the way Melisa plays her deck is crazy.
I love the profs "ssss". It's great to see that even after commander 2019 nothing has changed haha
I had never seen this series. Very entertaining and well edited. Nice
Fell in love with Melissa, she used my two favorite colors in mtg and told all those pesky blue spells to F off and won.
Melissa´s Sleeves make my brain hurt ^^
Tactical psychological-warfare sleeves. She's doing it right.
haha, I read your comment before watching the vid, so I skipped a couple of minutes to see her sleeves and I was like: "Maaan, I dont get it! where are the damn sleeves.
I love coming back to these old ones and watching them to see what all has changed. It's still got great flavor and uniquely Command Zone.
Wow the professor and Melissa this is awesome.
Glad to see one of my favorite cards - Fevered Visions - take a huge double damage toll on every one :D
Holy crap - this is the first video I've seen on this channel and the editing is phenomenal! I hope you keep that up because you've earned a sub! :)
I freaking love this channel! Might be the best commander show there is. Pleassse don’t ever stop making the magic
It's nice coming back to these. The production value reminds me of playing with friends, which is a great feeling.
12:14 I kept replaying this part...I also recently found this channel and I like it :D
I thought watching your vids was pointless since there is tons of cards in commander and I don't know what most of card. I didn't realize you would put so much work into it! Great video!
18:55 the professor, the editing. loved that bit,
This was super entertaining. By the last half I had no idea who was going to win. Great episode.
