    Do you know roughly how much current I need for this? I want to make a solar pool chlorinator and want to make sure the solar panel is strong is enough. Thanks for posting!!

    Great! Have you an idea about the current? What is the concentration in NaCL?

    @astrialkil Actually, on the blog post connected with this article I talk about how after the 9/11 attacks many municipal water treatment plants began using this technology to get away from storing chlorine on site. As a matter of fact, you can spend a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars on larger devices like this for your swimming pools.

    Good design principle. Most people have multiple containers/holding tanks.
    Your just like a-b-c 👍

    Where is the link to the titanium electrodes?
    Of the 3 links, one is a dead end, the second is an odd link to missionaries and not even in English, the third is a different complete device no longer in stock!

    It rinses off after use, thats why you have to rinse every time. The SWIM guys don't "sell" the electrodes, You have to just email them and ask what you would have to donate to get one. Alternatively, you could use a mixed metal oxide anode/cathode set from a chlorate cell, but it is twice as expensive, and someone may think your baking pyrotechnics instead of water...

    I've looked around and can not find the electrodes. Where do you purchase them? Thanks

      Electrodes of various types can be found in jewelers tool catalogs. Rio Grande is good. Have plating stuff to.

    @astrialkil I don't know why it said that, as I checked the link this morning and it worked. It may be that I have it on a schedule to post for everybody (even those without that link) in a couple weeks...
    I post the videos as I make the stuff, then try to put the articles out over time so that their is always something new. Try again and if it doesn't work I will go ahead and post the article this afternoon so you can see it.

    So a little update I donated $ 100 and got a cpu well worth it ....Within an hour I got an e mail hitch said it is on the way ..... How long does the anode and cathode last....

    So what happens to the sodium? Does it plate out on one of the electrodes? Does it get washed away when you rinse out the unit after use?
    I don't see any mention on the SWIM site of buying the electrodes. Do you have any other sources?

    • @scottlecomte6511
      @scottlecomte6511 4 роки тому +2

      The sodium remains in the water. The high current breaks the bond of the sodium and chloride. Both elements remain in the water. When the chloride, it can be measured as "free chlorine" which is the amount of unused (free floating) chlorine in the water. The sodium is left floating free as well after the bond has been broken.

    Nicely done. Where did you get the titanium mesh? Does it have to be MMO or is any titanium mesh okay?

  • @kornbread5359

    also you do know that ruthenium is highly toxic? just use titanium sheets, no need for anything else.

    What do you do to handle the chlorine gas that is produced (aka mustard gas) I've done an experiment with this before and I believe it produced some, which is very dangerous if not handled properly

    • @SomeReefer
      @SomeReefer 7 років тому +2

      Chlorine gas is not mustard gas.

    • @aaronj08ar
      @aaronj08ar 4 роки тому

      The gas this produces is hydrogen.

    • @thebutcher7919
      @thebutcher7919 2 роки тому +2

      It actually produces hydrogen (H2), which explodes, on one electrode and Chlorine gas (Cl2) on the other electrode.
      Chlorine gas recombines in the solution to make NaOCl (sodium hypochlorite) which is the bleach that you want.
      if you run this device in a well ventilated area, there is no risk.
      You can put a bottle (bottom up) over the electrode producing H2 to collect the gas and then approach a flame to the bottle opening (bottom down) and you will hear a "POP" and see a flame blast. That's the classic experiment we do at school ;-)
      Some Chlorine gas will escape, but the majority will remain in solution. Don't breathe it in too much.

    This looks really interesting, if you have one of these and a car and salt your made for safe water. Why are city's not using salt and one of these units instead of nasty chlorine gas to chlorinate the city water? It would be much safer!

      Just letting you know. I work for the city of Philadelphia we use Sodium Hypochlorite which is exactly what this generator produces. Most of the city’s in the country have converted their systems over. I just figured that I would share that information with you.

    My neighbor got into debt because of their power fee and started producing his own power. The answer ended up being the Papziati Energy online course. It is the best way to create your own electrical power. It is the earliest item that will come up on Google.
