RIJIR you rule thank you so much for sharing!. If its recreation its so well done it looks genuine to me. I love using these old detroit clips with mpegs of the great movies: hammer, kaiju, etc. Thanks again for sharing and creating these memories :-)
Thanks. Television was so different back then. These openings and bumpers bring back just as many memories as the movies themselves. Kids today would never understand. I'm always on the look out for tapes to convert. So if you know anyone with local programming from the 70s and 80s please let me know. I would like to find an original clip of this one to do a proper restoration. Another interesting one would be the Saturday afternoon one with clips from the Son of Godzilla.
I know what one you are refering to I think--there was a guy Keith from Milford who had a board for awhile, and it had jpegs of the "Creature Feature" bumper that showed the baby godzilla, but no video. Your recreation is very nice--I do remember fondly the Close Encounters of Third Kind music, and I think wasnt one of our fav shows that overplayed a scene from the original Fly? I will definitely keep lookout, I have VHS to digital software but I do not have the library of old tapes, but keep hoping others like you may have old tv shows on VHS or Beta and are as fond of these memories and preserving them as other Detroiter old viewers ;-) like us are. Thanks again!

Yes I used to read his blog. and I still belong to the forum he started. But for some reason he seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. Glad you enjoyed it.
RIJIR, this is AMAZING! How did you do this? I myself have been on the lookout for anything Detroit WKBD/WXON from that era too. Found some, still looking. I remember back around I want to say 82/83 that this came from. Saturday night Chiller Movie at 11 or 11:30 I recall. That was also at the time just after the intro, Svengoolie from Chicago would come on from syndication. I may have been 7 or 8 around the time but back then some parents were cool enough to let their kids stay up and watch old monster movies. I have a ton of fond memories of that. It's just too bad that it was on for a few years before it got yanked. The intro scared the crap out of me too so I would kinda walk away and wait for Sven to come on. So a small bit of history. Back in the 80's, a family friend worked at WKBD and I had asked him years after the show was over about the Chiller Movie and also the Creature Feature intros that aired on Saturday afternoons. He said that when they were done, they got tossed so no archives. Back in 2000, I ended up working for the son of the family that created WXON and being that community of radio/TV, he confirmed that in the business, none of the local show intros, bumpers ect are archived so we have to rely on user submitted BETA and VHS clips. You figure how many families back then recorded stuff on TV, I am sure somewhere in metro Detroit exists original aired shows on tape. Thanks again!
This brings back so many memories!!!! It made me feel good.... Thank you for sharing! I wonder what happened to the Newsbreak for Kids reels! It would be cool if we could upload those!
Awesome I remember watching this late Saturday nights and the music creeping me out They use to have another one during Saturday afternoon here in Michigan called Saturday Nightmares ?

I thought Chiller was on Channel 20 in Detroit and the Creature Feature Double Feature shows were on 50?
Channel 20 had "Thriller" on Saturday afternoons too.
Thriller on WXON had a segment of Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love' as it's backing track.
