One of the best old school breakdance videos. Thanks for that! I was in the 70's/80's a mother of 2 teenagers and enthusiastic about this new dance style. It's fascinating to see what today's kids have done with the old style.
I am grateful to have been a kid in the 80's and to have experienced this! Hard to believe we knew all about this without social media or a cell phone! I still remember when my mom bought my brother and I our first pair of parachute pants! I wish we had a time machine.
Modern breakdancers do more complex moves but they all kind of look the same - but the OG NYC breakers had SO MUCH style and flavor. Loved this! Mr. Wave so nice with it!
Man, this was back in my era when we were all trying to be good Breakdancers(80's). These guys here would have been considered top notch without question. That stuff those guys are doing now practically defies the laws of gravity! The art has definitely evolved and I can't imagine what they'll be doing in another 20 years!
New York City Breakers were one of the best crews of the 1980s.Along with Rock Steady Crew and Dynamic Rockers, they led the way in US breakin.Powerful Pexster, Chino ‘Action’ Lopez,Mr Wave, Flip Rock, Lil Lep, Kid Nice, GlideMaster and Icey Ice, were an awesome crew. The sad thing is that a few months after this,Glidemaster was killed in a motorcycle accident, and the crew spilt up,probably as a mark of respect for a fallen brother. What’s also sad is that Rock Steady’s Crazy Legs, never seemed to give crews like this any credit. The challenge they had in BEATSTREET was watered down, and for the film New York City Breakers used the actor,Robert Taylor,as Lee,replacing Icey Ice.In reality this would never have happened but Lee was part of the story.I would loved to have seen a proper battle between Rock Steady Crew and New York City Breakers. That would have been a proper showdown.
Evolved? Nah. Most top 10 dancers on a modern breaking competition stage at the international competition can't actually pull some of those moves off... nevermind progressing on top of it. Are you even watching? i was sort of blown away. Putting the moves together has gone to another level .. or maybe the awkarndess of the producer is removed but otherwise the moves have not been surpassed...
Which moves? Basic windmills? Swipes? Backspins? All of these are basic power moves. I don't think you have ever seen the creativity of newer generation. Breaking has evolved a lot since then.
I watched this show when it aired in L.A. and recorded it on VHS. Me and my brother watched it over and over and were in awe of seeing real NY hip hop at that time.
America needs to go back to its roots, we created this shit but we’re losing in modern competitions smh. Imagine this crew against any of the breakdancing olympians and it’s no debate.
I'm from the NYC area and those were my times. Since - at least - the late 1960s Puerto Ricans & Black Afro-Americans always got along well. We always ' tight ' ✊

These people dance like this in the 80s and their moves are cleaner than a lot of breakdancers these days
I'd say they're smoother, but the moved they use seem all the same. All windmills, swipes and backspins, although I did like the multiple kinds of no handed versions and the cool hand glide. His arm was really firm and steady
@@clarinethro1695 Yeah, seems like there was not much creativity back in those days haha
No they are not lmao 😂 you must not know anything about bboying cause it did nothing but evolve
@@xray476 created breakdance was ceeative enough as is. More of "creative" moves starting getting more popular in the 2000s w the internet and all
I disagree, these new guys are doing ninja shit now.
Had to come back to this to get the after watching the Australian woman breakdance in the Olympics. Needed to remind myself of what breakdancing looks like
I love these guy! I actually had a break dancing book back in the day and it had these guys in there.
why do i always watch vids like this just before going to sleep im soo hyped xd
One of the best old school breakdance videos. Thanks for that!
I was in the 70's/80's a mother of 2 teenagers and enthusiastic about this new dance style. It's fascinating to see what today's kids have done with the old style.
The dj is killing it with that scratching....

*Me when there’s a spider in my bed* :
Just no this comment is terrible
The 80s was a whole different era, I'd like to go back if I could!!
I’m OBSESSED with Mr Wave
Brah… U have no idea how much power this song has.🔥🔥🔥
I am grateful to have been a kid in the 80's and to have experienced this! Hard to believe we knew all about this without social media or a cell phone! I still remember when my mom bought my brother and I our first pair of parachute pants! I wish we had a time machine.
Fantastic, legendary New York City Breakers. 80's is my most favorite years - it was romantic times-))
Sal Tim lol I bet !! Men changed these days they look and act like women
Has anybody else came here for relief After watching 2024 Olympics and australia's pathetic attempt at "break dancing"?
Modern breakdancers do more complex moves but they all kind of look the same - but the OG NYC breakers had SO MUCH style and flavor. Loved this! Mr. Wave so nice with it!
We had this on a VHS tape. I must have watched this 100 times with my brothers. Memorable times. This is when they did it for the love of the culture.
I think we're all here after seeing raygun at the Olympics. That music in the background is good.
In the 80's this was Nuclear. We lost our minds. We were ready to Break. Time-travel. Anything.
Man, this was back in my era when we were all trying to be good Breakdancers(80's). These guys here would have been considered top notch without question. That stuff those guys are doing now practically defies the laws of gravity! The art has definitely evolved and I can't imagine what they'll be doing in another 20 years!
mjs better
My thoughts verbatim. ✊🏾
Absolute respect for 80s guys were full of useful creative intuitive dance moves " Boogaloo shrimps" is legendary in that era
They need to bring back this type of breaking music again!
Old school breakdancing has so much style.
America needs to go back to its roots, we created this shit but we’re losing in modern competitions smh. Imagine this crew against any of the breakdancing olympians and it’s no debate.
My uncle used to dance with LIL LEP @1:22 and Mr.Wave was the best dancer he ever knew!
Truly impressed for the fact it was 30years ago. Really high quality stuff!
The beat is still on 🔥🔥🔥 30+ years later.
nah bro that DJ is trash this beat sounds like dementia
African and native American genius on blast! These black and Puerto Rican kids channeling chi energy generated by these funky beats. Pure creation ❤️
I'm from the NYC area and those were my times. Since - at least - the late 1960s Puerto Ricans & Black Afro-Americans always got along well. We always ' tight ' ✊
African American genius. What do Africans or native Americans have to do with break dancing?
This takes me back to the movie Beatstreet and Breakin! Now I’m fifty-one years old….. Where has the time gone?
Amazing! It looks like Mr. Wave transcends time and space with his moves!
They need to have Ray Gun in this crew. Just saying. 😂
These are the true pioneers of breakdancing. You really can't compare the raw talent of the 80s to the present.
Remember when hip hop was about: 1) my styles cleaner than yours 2) my dj is iller than yours?
Pepperidge Farms remembers.
Now why isn't this the highlighted comment?

I'm soooo Dead 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It still is in a way. It's just that DJ's are more freelance today even though they might have a main artist they work with.
Gucci - Zaytoven
21 Savage - Metro Booming
Playboy Cardio - Pierre Bourne

I remember this show. Kinda cool to relive this little bit of nostalgia.
play at your own risk,...planet patrol, newcleus and jonzun crew were all over when you visited the states in the 80ies and got in touch with breakdance for the first time.brings back memories 😃
