Just wanted to say, great review. A lot of people I have spoken to before putting a deposit down on a Volvo have said that its the best car they have owned for practicality
Good review as always. I currently drive the XC90 on lease (all gas version) and I like this vehicle. I always keep the security features on and have found them really helpful. However, the issues you highlighted seem to be a serious flaw, if it turns out to be more than just with the unit you reviewed. As for the price, once my current lease is up, I will look most likely look elsewhere. While I like this vehicle, CDN1,100 per month is quite a lot of money.
Kirk, I see that this XC90 is quite small for YOUR NEEDS (with Casey and your 4 girls not enough room for groceries ☹). Someone else (the other couple) did uploaded this morning (after embargo, I suppose) BOTH Mazda CX-90s reviews (both outputs of T-I6 and the single PHEV I4). It looks it might not be roomy enough on the back (NOT class-leading) for groceries with all 3 rows up although it has plenty of oomph, even the PHEV, and you may actually like the ride once you get it for review. But it feels because of the lack of room out back (only +1-2" on most real estate numbers above the CX-9) you will have to gun for a new HSD Sienna (hope for a Hybrid Max in the next few years) for your family driver.
I think it depends on the ages of the family as well. A young family would struggle, because 3 car seats take a lot of space in any car. A family with a bigger age gap between kids, with maybe only one car seat would be ideal. For your type of family, this car would probably make a lot more sense when the last one is close or reaches their early teens. At which point you would keep it for 10 years, and then downsize as they would then be off to college and you won't need such a big car anymore. I don't think it would be good as one of those cars you replace every two years (unless you have benefit in kind and tax breaks, since this is a PHEV), if you are not a company car driver, this would be a huge investment for at least 10 to 15 years I would think.
There is a physical button for defogging the windshield (next to the volume knob), so that you don't have to fiddle with the climate control when you are driving.
I’d considered it second hand but came to the conclusion reliability was too much of a concern. Any feed-back from owners of HIGH mileage T8 from 2016/17/18 ?
My 2017 Inscription Pro, 11.4KWh Battery has now done over 100k Miles. We travelled with it across Europe 3 summers in a row as far down as Morocco as cool as you like. my kids still prefer their school drop off/pick up on it as opposed to their mums' VW ID3 (which I love to drive) or my brothers' Tesla Model Y. The Sublime ride, the Space for everyone and the sound system are a class act . If only it can have a larger battery pack, rear seats massaging and entertainment controls from the rear seats ah and the sun roof extended farther a back for the 3rd row then none of us would want to miss the ride.
I think one of the reasons the engine cover is made of soft material is for pedestrian safety should someone get hit by the vehicle, less head trauma. I think that’s what I read a while back.
One major compromise is their movement away from real leather, they claim they won't have any real leather in their cars by 2023 It just shows them cheaping out and indirectly attacking the food chain, it's a nice car otherwise though.
This XC90 is more of a compromise because is a PHEV (larger batteries and higher weight) and not a SELF-CHARGING HYBRID (way smaller battery, lower weight and no worries about where to charge if you don't have a readily available garage for overnight charging).
@@syxepop both types of hybrids are huge compromises and a scam on subsidies, as they are on par with pure gas cars in emissions, shouldn't be rewarded for that.
@@syxepop nah the TX off the bat will be much much worse than this. It’ll be boring to drive it’ll be very slow and not terribly luxurious. And it won’t handle anywhere near as well because the TX will be based on a RAV4/Camry platform There I saved you months of needing to wait
Volvo is not a Chinese car. It's a Swedish designed, engineered line of vehicles. They are headquartered and managed in Sweden. It used to be owned by Ford and about 12 years ago it was purchased by Geely but if anything, they are less hands on about Volvo than Ford was and Volvo is fairly autonomous as a brand and company.
@@mrgurulittle7000 It's a durable and reasonably sophisticated European car. I think it is expensive for an old platform. The new BEV EX90 is going to go for only a few thousand more. This car is an 8 year old platform. Yes, it's been modified but it is still 8 years old.
you would think this many years in production the car would have ZERO reliability issues and all issues would be moot
Crazy how this design still looks brand new! I hope you will be able to review the ex90!!
Recommended the XC40 for my friends wife. She absolutely loves it.
She leased a Land Rover before. That says something to me.
XC40 is a great little crossover!

Yes. It’s simply the best luxury PHEV. It’s very attractive outside inside and offers excellent performance and comfort for the money
Mazda's CX90 PHEV might be a better option now! Can't wait to test it.
CX-90 is better imo. I see Mazda as the much more refined and almost as luxurious Volvo.
@@arhamkhakwani5851 almost but not quite close.
@@KirkKreifels We can't wait for you to test it either! 🌞👍👍
@@KirkKreifels I was curious about the Mazda CX90 PHEV as well, but it evidently has only 26 miles of electric range. Not competitive, IMO.
You guys just have to stop paying these inflated prices.
True, particularly for a Chinese owned Geely motors Volvo.
Said the one typing on a $1500 Chinese iPhone.....

Yes I know. Fan control isn't a physical button.
@@KirkKreifels thats true. I think all cars should have physical fan buttons or knobs. Like volume....but for air!
Forgot to mention the 2nd row booster seat.
I would easily take MDX Type S for 75K and save me 10K for fuel and other things.

Ask Mark from Savagegeese. It’s been Geely for 13 years now. I would buy/lease one.
bro called this an investment lol. Worth prolly nothing in 10 years and reliability and electrical isssues will be bad. Its fine to lease though

$90k+ With TAX??? Dad has a new S90 and the value to dollar just isn't there.. can't imagine someone paying that much for this.
I think that the price is OK.
Let’s just call it two rows because you’re not getting a normal sized adult in that alleged third row.
Want a true third row? Get a Sienna or Sequoia.
Bro the T8 is a ticking time bomb f9r reliability issues.
Why are your reviewing Chinese Branded vehicles these days?
If it's a hybrid, it is a YUGE compromise, by definition.
