Thanks for this video. I have the same issue and tried replicating your steps. However upon the first command: cd /volumes/data/users, the terminal window responded with “No such file or directory”. Any idea what went wrong 😢
@@baptenda I did mount the data volume. But the first command did not work for me. Anyway, I managed to solve my issue! I did it by - (1) Restarting the machine without any external monitors plugged in (2) Once the machine is restarted, plug in the monitor and the top menu bar would appear on the extended screen in grey (3) I tried the 1st time and it didn't quite work. I tried again and somehow on the 2nd time, 1 of my app (Spotify) button appeared on the top menu bar. Clicked on the Spotify button and suddenly all my other desktop apps started to pop out and my desktop is reinstated! Hope this helps for everyone else facing same/similar issues.
Wow. I think you were pretty lucky since no apps would appear on the top menu bar for me. I like that you are sharing your tricks. I will pin this as well.
Thank you very much man! I am ready to travel to you just to thank you for this trick. I spent all day yesterday trying to figure how I can solve it and I couldn’t. Hats off👏👏
Thank you so much, it worked! I’m surprised Apple support couldn’t tell me this straight away, they were very confused by my blank screen and were going to escalate again. I was waiting for their call back when I found this. Glad I didn’t have to waste yet another hour when this was a simple fix.
@bryancotton84 I think Apple has now released a new update. Can you use the recovery mode and then update the OS from internet? Please reply her if you need help. Or send me an email at baptenda@gmail.com
Thanks so much, man! That did the trick! I did have to do it twice though. The first time I had a second monitor attached which may have prevented the machine from updating correctly. Doing it a second time without the second monitor attached worked! Thanks again.
How to put on recovery mode for iMac desktop. I’ve updated the software. I put in my password and it keeps spinning and loading. I’ve been doing this for days and I’ve had no luck.
@@baptenda it’s a mac desktop 21.5 inches. Here is the serial number I got from my phone (C02FM0QQP7F1). I can’t get past the login as it freezes up and it keeps spinning. I brought my computer from Best Buy brand new in 2022 for Christmas.
Can you help with getting stuck on the log in screen when it will only load about 50-75 percent once I put my password in. Then it gets stuck for hours and I can’t get passed that screen. When I reboot in safety mode and do the same thing a grey loop will spin for hours under my log in . Apple told me I needed to erase my computer and I’m not ready to do that yet.
Can you try the following (1) Restarting the machine without any external monitors plugged in (2) Once the machine is restarted, plug in the monitor and the top menu bar would appear on the extended screen in grey (3) I tried the 1st time and it didn't quite work. I think that means you didn't mount the data volume. Can you double check?

When I choose my HD data it is already mounted. Do I need to unmount and mount again?
@@claytonwarren1657No you don't have
Thank you so much brother, I spent 8 hours trying to fix this and this worked in 2 minutes ❤❤

Yes. I also spent hours and hours chatting with junior advisors who don't resolve complex issues like this
Thanks a lot you , awesome video . I had 3 MacBook and 1 iMac with this issue in last two days , since we had backup I restored all the three of them.
This worked! You saved my daughters day. Thank you so much for taking the time to make the video.
Wow. Say hello to your daughter
My man you are a LIFE SAVER!!!!
For me it worked also- I just needed to move all plist files instead of only one plist file. Thank you
Any commands you used to do that?
Great, it worked for me too man, life saving. Thanks, subscribed now.
Thank you so much!
Unfortunately this has not worked for me on my new MacBook. It seems the first command doesn’t work.
The first command should work if you properly mount your hard disk.
Same. No such file or directory

so what do you do with that plist file in your downloads folder afterward?
You are asking if it can be removed?
@@baptenda yes - but I already deleted the file and it was fine, so I guess it’s fine!

Many thanks to you!
