Thanks for the video, I've been meaning to do mine for almost a year, finally got around to it, only took me about 20 minutes after watching you. I should have done it a year ago, shifts smoothly again and starts in park like it's supposed to. No more playing with the shift knob to get it to start.
In my case, 4 Low would not engage, but 4 Hi would. To engage 4 Low, the transmission must be in neutral. The neutral safety switch, aka transmission range sensor tells the PCM what gear the transmission is in and is supposed to only allow the vehicle to start if it's in park or neutral. With 4×4's that have electronic transfer cases, it also doesn't allow the transfer case to switch to 4L unless the transmission is in neutral. I had replaced this part a couple of years ago with a parts store brand. Last winter, when it looked like it might snow in my area, I thought I'd test 4 Low to make sure it worked. Didn't work. Point is, these Fords often don't play well with aftermarket, parts store brand electronics, so it's best to stick with Motorcraft.

I replaced the Ford OEM switch with a Doorman switch on my 2003 Ford F150 4x4. Hopefully it lasts a few years.
Why did you change this mine won't shift with the shifter but I went underneath it it shifted into gear
