Super cool video. Thanks for checking out RAY. And nice t-shirt by the way 😉
Excellent work. Getting ALL the "content creators" to simp for you. And at the EXACT SAME TIME. At least this guy does not scream and insult religions.
Its called an embargo, we all want to be first, so thats why we all publish at the same time
@@benburnett8109are you high?
@@benburnett8109Thank you! Me and the whole team are really blown away by all the feedback from the community about RAY, all those video releases with their love and how far we have all come together! I can assure you that this is just the beginning and that a lot more "curious creative minds" will release videos about RAY at various times in the future forever still simply because they are just interested in checking out cool new gear... and "curious creative minds" release at the same time because they want to be first covering the news and I think because this is like a cool content wave we all enjoy to surf and everyone who wants to hop on is invited to! I'm actually leading the LEWITT activities with this amazing "creator community" and today is special thanks to videos like this one and so many others and the support & love from all you people out there! And no, I'm not on drugs, I'm on the RAY wave lol...
@04:28 for Drums!! if that sensor works with drum heads, then it could reduce the bleed A LOT. That would be a video! Lewitt, is that possible? I would change my drums mic to Lewitt RAY, but then, let's see how they behave first with drums and then, with the proximity sensor on Drumheads and Cymbals.
Lewitt always thinks outside the box, amazing.
I really appreciate anyone doing this!
💚
@@LEWITT-audio Gotta agree: pretty innovative & interesting idea!
WTF is this magic? It's truly rare to get this sort of massive step up in tech. This is huge.
Oh dammit! Why couldn’t they have just made another counterfeit U87? That’s what we need! Oh no. Hang on. No it isn’t. No. We need THIS! Congratulations to Lewitt on forward thinking and moving microphone technology into the 21st century. Great video Wytse, love the track! xx
I feel like this mic is a bit on the gimmicky side but I also feel like I really hope I’m wrong. A mic like this has major implications for the sound stage industry. Just imagine being on a set with actors needing to catch every spoken line with consistent detail. Lots of shots get a retake due to audio being weak or varying. A mic like this could make the job for the boom guy MUCH easier.
Hey there. I am an "old guy" here in the U.S. and also make my living as an audio engineer. I just wanted you to know I get a lot of great info from your videos. You are very talented and you give me hope for the future after old guys like me are gone. Keep up the great work!
Proximity muting would be extremely useful on a stage vocal mics. Way better than a gate.
Truly amazing technology. The Lewitt actually gives the U87 a run for its money. I really can’t hear any difference between the 2 accept if you want the proximity affect other then that I’ll definitely look into adding this bad boy to the mic locker. Thanks Wyse for the info and feedback you rock!!!!!!!!! Keep up the great work you do for the the recording community.
To be completely usable you should be able to set the distance from the mic, so you could get a kind of proximity effect if you want. That would make it more interesting. I actually like the proximity effect because you can use it to "perform with the mic".
This is genuinely a HUGE step forward in mic technology!. maybe the biggest since??.......switchable patterns??
There's a lot more going on here than just compression?, expanding?, noise reduction??. I really have no idea how they achieved this??. I was NOT expecting that price reveal !?!?. If this really works in various situations, the tech is worth 3times that price!. I may be one of the few who don't like tons of proximity effect on a voc mic. I do a lot of podcast recording, and this mic will be a game changer!!. I want to here some more reviews from home studio people. This is on my list of gear to buy!
The first new tech of 2024 that widened my eyes. Thanks for the buzz.
lewitt is easily becoming the best modern microphone manufacturer
WOW!! mic with a compressor and a gate!! this has so many uses. game changer for sure
No, its not that simple. It also compensates for the proximity effect, that's why you have the distance system. If it was just a compressor you wouldn't need the distance, just the level as a reference.
@@Mansardian yes i know, i watched the video and read up on the mic. but basically, compressor gate for a simple description.
i thought so at first too, but a compressor would flatten the dynamic range, while this only flattens the dynamics caused by the distance
Love the actual recording and mixing vids you do 👍
Lewitt are an amazing company- fantastic products.
Many thanks for the super revealing and interesting video!
sounds amazing. very cool.
It's simply awesome!
Brilliant. They found a gap in the market and filled it.
Thank you for providing the audio comparison
Very cool technology ! Thank you for sharing this !
woaaaa amazing. I just got my first Lewitt, and this might be my next one. really cool. oooh and lovely voice from the singer
Love my 440
I've been thinking about this solution for years hoping that someone would implement it. It seems that Lewitt did a really good job at it! My idea would be to record the distances and use a plugin in the DAW to process it. That way you have more control obviously. And you could mount sensors to practically any mic.
But with built in DSP it's much easier to use. Well done Lewitt!
I am thrilled, a real innovation, great product... and great video. Thank you
Thats crazy! 🤩🤯
Excellent talent-loved the performance! -Tom
Really cool video and super inventive mic love lewitt for that
Excellent idea, and ANOTHER excellent sounding Lewitt mic. They are such an interesting company. Keep pushing indeed!
smart and forward thinking!
@04:28 for Drums!! if that sensor works with drum heads, then it could reduce the bleed A LOT. That would be a video!
Amazing concept! For version 2 I would like to see a camera with face tracking. This could stop obstructions interfering with the Lidar, and, if the vocalist happens to get far off-axis it could prevent the lidar sensing the background behind the vocalist. Would be amazing for booming actors!
That's so sick! Wow!
Very cool. I really like the distance muting thing. I typically use a lav for my content, but this could make me change that approach.
Wow that is very interesting... Would like to see more demonstration of this
I think this is more usefull for podcasting than vocalists as vocalists use distance to even out softer and more powerful parts.
This is what I'm talking about. When I sing, I perform with the proximity effect in mind and that can make a big difference for how the performance sounds. For podcasting on the other hand... yes, absolutely useful, especially if you can set the "preset distance".
For £300 this is as you say an absolute no brainer I’ll be buying one
Got one, dig it
WOW!!! AMAZING!
Whaou ! Une vraie invention utile. Merci pour la découverte ❤
I needed to hear it from you. I’ll probably buy two.
I'm curious to know how far this might go towards curing the problems you sometimes get when comping new takes into an existing session, when the vocalist's position relative to the mic might have changed, or the instrumentalist's stool has moved since the intial recording was made and things don't quite match up sonically.
Agreed. I use a matching EQ plugin to deal with this problem currently, but solving at the source is much preferred.
@@sparella Same here. A review I read this morning says the eq adjustment is limited to bass roll off only, thus dampening fluctuations in proximity effect. I usually deal with that with dynamic EQ but as you say, at source is always a good option. I could see this mic potentially being useful for certain vocalists!
wow, that is amazing.
Wow. Impressive
Oh my gosh!!!!!!! This is huge!!!! What a massive development for microphone technology! 🤯🤯
Supernice ❤🎉
That thumbnail to preview transition was so smooth
Agreed 👍
The distance sensor is a cool idea. I might make one up with an ultrasonic for $5 to stick on my mic stand - would be interesting to record as automation.
They should do the same for a live/stage mic!
Wow. Very impressive! That price point is amazing too. It will open it up to a lot of people in all kinds of use cases.
Getting one immediately
Already ordered for podcasting.
Perfect for non mic trained guests on podcasts or even myself during all kinds of streaming, podcasting, online meetings etc. worry free good sound and levels would be so convenient. Freedom of a wireless lav mic but without any batteries and complexity. Really need to get one of these.
Okay. That is a _very_ shrewd design idea. I love it.
The last part of the recording showing the non-existing proximity effect was way more impactful than the actual side-by-side recording. And while it is tempting with the distance, the next-level implementation would be direction and sound source recognition. If a camera sees, where the audio is coming from due to the movement indicating noise creation, then everything that is recorded and not part of the movement should be cut out (e.g. before and after you start singing / speaking you identify the noise floor or sounds, which are then canceled out during the recording). THAT would be a killer mic I would buy. I have more issues with direction and overall noise in my room (I'm not a professional, just a hobbyist) than with distance, and hence I wouldn't buy this one. But I like the direction, that LEWITT is taking here.
Great Technology. No other mic has those features that I've heard.
This is great! So many people do not understand how to behave in front of a microphone.
Genius thumbnail transition dude 😮
I'm actually very traditional when it comes to microphones, but I'd be interested in trying it for spoken voice, as the proximity effect can be annoying if the speaking distance changes. A direct comparison with, for example, EV RE320 would be interesting. Same price range only counteracts the proximity effect due to its very special housing construction...
Its a less is more type of thing for sure, very intuitive
I love My Lewitt mic, it sounds so good for the price they ask for, I think people kinda dismiss the quality when they see the price but DAMN they sound crisp! And they're solid too!
Now this... This is on another level. Groundbreaking tech with real use-case in mind, not just gimmicks. And 350€ is a STEAL for that level of usefulness, especially for someone with a new studio that is recording less skilled or experienced artists. Won't break the bank, will compensate for those shortcommings and will be a very good sounding mic.
I would love to try it, to check the effect for myself 😊
Hmm... For l lead vocals, I like the proximity effect. The natural compression effect is cool... Does the proximity detect instruments? Idiot proof is cool...
Gotta love companies that try something different. I wonder how fast it reacts
seems awesome for a live hand held, erhlund makes traingle diaphragms that are supposed reduce proximity in a different way. I want to try one sometime, these mics might be perfect for VoiceOver booths that students at the college I work for are using...
Thanks a lot for your clear explanation and compassion! I still would like to know the following is it a good mic to record an instrument, in particular an acoustic guitar?
Great video and interesting news . I think good mic for price.
Neat!!!
I think you can get that tone with a dynamic SeElectronics V7X with proper hi pass without breaking the bank.
I'd love to see a video on how two or three of them interact for podcasting, would they pick up someone who's speaking into another mic or would a gate help prevent that?
nice idea. sounds great too. I'm all for innovation
Were all the layers of vocals in that example each recorded with the highlighted mics?
Pretty hard to tell character with so many layers and effects.
Doesn’t have a pad? Would it work in a snare drum?
Does the pick up from the rear and sides also increase as you move further from this microphone?
Stupid question: how does it work if a pop filter is placed in front of it? Or no need of a pop filter? (To record my singing)
That question isn't stupid AT ALL. 🤔
Per the Sweetwater listing, it comes with it's own pop filter that attaches magnetically. Looks like it also comes with the foam cover shown in the video.
Cool idea I generally like to have the proximity effect available for my voice though.
Cool😊
I'm a freelance post production audio engineer that works with a lot amateur voice actors doing ADR. I can't freaking tell you how much of an absolute pain it is to match bad mic technique to a scene. It is a lot of editing and automation to make even usable at times. Something like this would save me freaking hours and allow more effort to go into the actual mix.
I liked the Neumann. It sounds more "complete"?
Have you reviewed/heard of the Slate ML-1, similar idea to the Slate VSX, but for a microphone - it adjusts the recording curve to sound like other microphones. So you only need one mic now and it can emulate all kinds of different mics that might work better on certain recordings.
I got the email flyer and after looking at the promo thought it was going to be out my price range. How surprised I was when I scrolled to the price! Your review has just sealed it for me. What a great mic 👀
That's weird. Glenn from SpectreSoundStudios complained about the proximity effect that this mike delivered when he placed it near a guitar cab front. He wishes that you could switch that function off and just keep the level adjustment.
The video made me more interested in the Lewitt LCT 440 honestly. I didn’t know how well it almost compares to a u47.
Fantastic tech, especially if it’s a good sounding mic.
That's a clever idea. I'm not really sure if it's useful for me, however it's always nice to have options.
I'd be interested to try a vocal using a Ray and a 640 in Blumlein. One track of proximity to blend at will.
Insane. Really good and something I never expected. I can think of other uses as well. What's the pick up pattern?
Hi there, glad you like it. It's a cardioid pattern.
It's a cardiod, exact specs should be somewhere on the Lewitt website, I think...
This technology in a boom-mic for recording on a movie set.
COOL Stuff
how does it work on acoustic guitar?
How does it do in a less clean environment like an office or with something like a computer fan going nearby?
Great, but the “U47 Fet” is best suited for screaming and loud rock vocals and picking up kick drums. 😎
WOW! it's gonna be a podcast stndr.
⚠️ Also a contributing factor that played a big role in difference in sound between the mics, was due the mic placement. U47 was dead center in front of the singer, while Lewitts were off-center. Anyways, for this price this Lewitt mic is 20x better sounding and has better features than SM7B. Actually this features is better than Mic out there.
How can I mix like this?
Where can i found a tutorial?
🇦🇹Wiener Qualitätsarbeit🇦🇹 👌🏼
Could you do a more in depth audio test and fast A/B type comparison video, minus the backing tracks ?
Nice mic 😊
Cardioid microphone without proximity effect?????? This is a game changer for live shows.
I saw present day productions video and they said it only has one sensor btw
I started my ASMR channel with 2 Lewitt 440s and upgraded to Lewitt 640 ts. Love Lewitt stuff.
Hopefully they will make some good shotgun mics in the future *wink wink*
Priced appropriately for pod casters, use case there is great.
