That's a fair point, as I was using some 1080p in high ISO on the timeline I decided to give 1080p a better shot and not attempting to upscale to a 4K timeline/export
Hello, excuse me which profile or what configuration is the most optimal in low light conditions so as not to have noise and how much would be a maximum iso, I would appreciate it very much, greetings
nice testing. informative. thank you for the effort and the sharing. i look forward to seeing more of your A7C testing not only in low light but for lit interiors and exterior daytime. concerning picture profiles, any thoughts on HLG2 as a starting point? stay well. thumbs up.
Thank you for commenting, I'm working on videos for those scenarios as we speak! I've actually not used HLG2 as much as I'd thought I might - so far anyway! Do you have any specific questions you'd like answering?
Thanks for this video, George, I've just subbed. I vlog with a GH5 but bought the A7C mainly for legacy lens photography, but also for low-light video. I look forward to more videos from you and the A7C. I feel in love that camera the moment I picked it up!
Glad you enjoyed! That's interesting you've got that combo going, I find the A7C is probably the most usable vlogging camera I've used besides the EOS R series - any particular testing you're keen to see with the A7C?
I may be wrong but I believe at 3200 ISO in 4k24 in slog2, that is 2nd native ISO with super clean shadow according to Gerald UNDONE review. Can you verify it ?
I love the capital UNDONE he is an absolute G 🙏 I have heard the same too from Gerald, that's not a test I've looked at in much detail personally but I think I will!
Does the A7c have a base ISO in the PP settings? In Slog2 it is 500 and 3200. I didn't know if in the standard PP or even in the no PP if it had a base and a dual higher base as well.
Been enjoying my a7s iii, but 2nd guessing that it might be much more than what I need it for. Thinking about the 7Ac but after watching your video, I’m more at ease to hold on to my a7s iii. Thank you!
That's interesting that you'd pass on the A7Siii - looking to pick one up myself in a few months. I have little bad to say about the A7C, are there any specific questions you have about it?
@@GeorgeHolden just a few, no crop in mode (can still use clear zoom), color science specifically skin tone. Coming from the S1H, I really miss that nice natural look skin tone. I use hlg3 btw on Sony. My last point is highly subjective given that I had experienced with the S1H, and that is the built quality. I felt more rugged and robust with the S1H than the a7s iii. Not to say the built quality is bad on a7s iii, in fact it is pretty good as it is, just feel the S1H is better. But it is heavier, and AF sucks, which is why I sold it. So just a few minor things which can be easily getting used to.
Ah that's fair enough, I think I had a similar concern coming from Canon which are typically a bit bigger and heavier - Sony camera bodies are small in comparison. There is a crop in mode on the A7C, I have mine mapped to a custom button to easily punch in to the Super35 mode
I tested at 12800 iso in the dark in my living room and light coming simply from the light outside through the window, and the quality is really good in 4k24 100mbits
Nice video mate! One question tho, does it have to be PP2? Since I allready have used that PP for a slowmo preset I use. I changed all the settings onto PP3, and I guess it should do the same thing?
Hola!! Aprecio toda tu informacion.

I'm honeslty really surprised and even a little disappointed that this a7c struggles as much as it does in lowlight. I just recently picked up the sigma fp which does phenomenal apparently in lowlight. Even in 1080p. So clean. But I've been thinking about grabbing up the a7c instead for the bells and whistles and way more lens choices (not to mention more affordable choices as well) but this has me second guessing once again dabnabbit!
@@GeorgeHolden I think I might a got s little spoiled by my sigma fp is the problem. I jumped from fuji aps c to full frame sigma fp and was blown away by the rich picture quality. My only disappointment was its pretty poor auto focus, and lack of Ibis (only had electronic) hence my still thinking about the a7c. As far as I have gathered so far, the sigma has better lowlight and over all better picture quality/dynamic range, not to mention the ability to record in 12 bit raw and 60fp 4k. But the advantages of a7c are definitely the great af, evf, swivel screen, and Not to mention a larger selection of lenses. As well as more affordable lenses at that. So.... ya
The a7c is very good in low light. In my living room completely dark with just few light from outside through the windows, the video was really impressive at 12800 iso 4k24 100mbits and my tamron 17-28 at f2.8. Film like quality, with no pixels error, or apparent noise or artifact compression error. Above that the noise will start to appear. But the camera see better than me in the dark at 12800 iso. So to my opinion the a7c is really very good in low light conditions. Only beaten by a7sIII which cost two times more.
Nice video! How about A7III, did you test it for low light? I'm going to buy an A7C which had better Af-performance for video, but as I see worse image quality than A7III. It is said in tests they've got tha same image sensor, but A7C has more noise in low light than A7III. Is it true? Is better choice A7III wirh rhe weaker af performance than A7C? What do you mean?
The A7C and A7iii image is the same, there's not any more noise in low light compared to A7iii - it's the same camera besides a different EVF and the flip screen
Great video ! I'm really interested in the a7C actually. Do you prefer it over the a7iii as a first Sony camera for hybrid shooting ? Idk which one I should go for since they are priced the same In my country.
Personally the flip screen, size and improved autofocus settings are an easy win for the A7C over the A7iii in my opinion. The biggest downside is the EVF for photography, it's hardly useable, so if that's something that bothers you I'd suggest looking more towards the A7iii
Cool, but if you uploaded the video in 4K, the video would be much more useful
That's a fair point, as I was using some 1080p in high ISO on the timeline I decided to give 1080p a better shot and not attempting to upscale to a 4K timeline/export

In my experience I'd say PP2 as mentioned in this video
That is literally what the entire video is about!
after some experiments with my a7iii , finally stick with hlg3.. keep up man!
Fair! Do you like hlg3 in low light?

Nah so it's only the log profiles that have higher base ISO, noPP and most other PP have base as 100 ISO

No worries! Thank you for watching 🙌
How’s the autofocus in low light?
Pretty good as long as you increase exposure, it can lose faces in low light when you're underexposed
Nice video mate! One question tho, does it have to be PP2? Since I allready have used that PP for a slowmo preset I use. I changed all the settings onto PP3, and I guess it should do the same thing?
Yes that should be fine! Be sure all settings are matched - the PP slot is irrelevant as long as all settings are identical
@@GeorgeHolden Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks!
Can you please clarify if the A7C is better than the A7iii in low light?
They perform the same as they both use the same sensor!

really thinking about buying one
Fantastic little camera, if you can get your hands in one before buying I recommend it!
Thank you will the E mount lense fit the a7c
Yes it uses the E-mount for Sony lenses
Thanks

Nope - A7S cameras are on another level
That camera is outdated

Would you say it struggles in low light? Is the same low light performance as the A7iii! Not quite an A7S series but does a good job
@@GeorgeHolden I mean from the examples shown here it seems to not be as clean as I was expecting. Maybe its just a compression issue?
