THESIS: The A7C can shoot professional photo and video, BUT you should be warned of the single SD card slot👍 Let me know what you guys think! If you were to buy one, would you go A7C or A7iii?

When it first came out, I really wanted this camera because of the articulating screen and the upgraded menu. But the single card slot, viewfinder and less customizable buttons is what turned me towards the a7iii even though it's an older camera. I would have loved the a7Siii but too pricey...so I guess I need to hurry and create content for my own channel so I can eventually start making money from it!

Never had an issue with single card slot and custom buttons before (never had the a7iii). I would still choose this over a7iii. unlimited recording / eye AF for video? It would make cheap sony lens perform more with this feature, specially the 50mm f1.8 FE. C'mon guys. Am I the only one seeing these benefits?

I don’t shoot a lot of people in motion. I more often shoot things, or myself (yes, I am arguably a person 🤓), - fairly static stuff. I tend to do manual follow focus if any focus at all, and use lots of older manual focus lenses.
Thus, having custom buttons comes in handy in manual focus situations.
Still, an amazing camera, and better at what it does than I am, I’m sure!

Ok i get that, but then he ask why there is only 1 SD card slot, i know why... Because it's Compact :) it goes for the grip 2, it's meant to be Compact. Me personally would choose the A7III over this, all the pro's of the A7C except for the flippy screen does not out perform the pro's on the A7III. Having Custom buttons makes a huge deal, especially with the old menu style which i don't mind because i never need to go in it because of the C1 - C4. It all comes down what you need as a video/photographer both body's are great and has there pros and cons.

Same for me, sandisk, kingston, lexar, if you pick a good brand, you will never have an issue, and you bring multiple card with you if you want to be safe. It is unlikely the uhsii inside the sony will fail. If it is the case, there is also chance that an a7siii or a7iii processor died during shooting. If you are a pro, you probably have several camera. So this is not an argument. The evf is maybe small but really clear, i tried it. It misses maybe an extension for the evf to block sun. But that’s it. It does not have 1/8000 in mechanic shutter but it does 1/8000 with electronic shutter, and flash speed sync i think is 1/160 instead of 1/200

It’s more of a thing that professionals that need redundancy worry about. If losing your images doesn’t mean a very upset client, then a single SD card slot isn’t a big deal. It would still be terrible to possibly lose images, but as a professional with a client, like let’s say a wedding day, a major priority is redundancy on-site so there’s no possible way that you lose those images!

      @tomhsia4354 Рік тому

@@joshcruzphotos You generally get extremely high price to performance ratios. Some lens can deliver some interesting colour rendering or other effects that are hard to impossible to imatate in post. My old telephoto lens (Jupiter-21M) is costs a fraction of the price of my Sony 55-210 kit lens but is faster, much sharper, and has better bokeh. It is however, much heavier, less vivid (coatings are not the Soviets' strong suit), has more purple fringing, and more prone to flare.
Good modern lenses tend to have beter coatings and optics, they are also MUCH easier to use due to autofocusing and stabilization.
If you have the skills and a non-existent budget, old lenses can be a good option. You will need a lot of research and some luck to get a good deal, however.

I’ve never had an SD fail on me. Cameras like the Leica cost 3 to 4 times as much as this guy with a single card slot. I understand wanting redundancy, but I believe a good quality UHS II card can suffice. I’m considering this guy for EDC for its size, sensor, and the option to have fast af even though I primarily want to use manual lenses to keep it small

Small and compact but agree that if you use other lenses such as zoom lenses then they make the rig alot bigger. But still, I like caring it around because it's light and compact and goes really well with smaller primes. Would like 2 sd cards like you said though. That was my biggest flaw also.

I have only sort of re-entered the camera market, so I was VERY excited to see this model since I often like to take my A6000 out rather than my A7II because the A6x00 bodies are nice and compact. This seemed like the best of both worlds - a full-frame A6x00. However, excitement changed to despair when I realized that I’d lose the custom buttons, AND the AF/MF/AEL button that I live by on my A7II. I live for back-button focus.
I also use manual focus lenses quite often and have a custom button mapped to quickly zoom the viewfinder for focus assist. There might be workarounds (maybe that AF-ON button can be mapped?), but it’s still a loss. The crazy thing is the A6000 has both a top-of-grip custom button and an AEL button. The A6600 has TWO custom buttons on top and the same AF/MF/AEL button as the A7II. Why the heck couldn’t they at least do the same here?
It takes me out of the market for this camera. I realize I was probably expecting too much given its form factor and target market (what IS its target market???), but it’s still a disappointment. I have no use for an $1800 “B” camera. Maybe the next rev will be the one...

Two things that are handy on the C because I have them on my ZV1 - the flip screen for vertical video (for social media) and catalyst browse stabalisation. Catalyst browse has been very handy for 2 - 3 second clips of motion.
PS - your right about the single slot - I won't take one to paid work.

Why such fixation on dual card? Even "happy go" stats like yours, 12 years with no SD card fail, it's a great stat. I'd say that generally it's more likely that the photographer mess up the work than an SD card or camera. There's a probably a better chance you drop the camera with dual slots in a pond than the SD card failing. Or maybe the camera bag get stolen with both cards, or more likely your hard drive fails or is damaged before your SD card.

This criticism would be 100% valid if the a7c were positioned or marketed as a “professional” camera… but it’s not. If you’re looking to professionally shoot weddings and events, this would never be Sony’s recommendation nor the recommendation of any competent retailer. They would tell you to get an a7III or, more likely if you are truly a pro, an a7RIV.

I would 100% go for the A7C. Multiple reasons for that. First off, it gets you into a full frame camera body, but second because having an A7C means that the lenses you buy for it will fit future cameras that you buy as you grow as a photographer/filmmaker. Let's say you buy three lenses for your A7C. Then you get really into photography/filmmaking and want to upgrade your camera body to the A7RIV or A7SIII. Those lenses that you bought for your A7C will still fit your new camera body perfectly. Lenses are a long term investment and camera bodies are temporary!
