    Fascinating stuff, Irv! Your findings show that it's not a simple matter choosing which slicer to use, and that it's probably going to take you more time to decide which one to use, than you'll save by making the analysis, in most cases! I'll just stick with Prusa. It's being updated very often, and improved at every iteration, in my opinion.

    I have had some prints that print faster on the MK IIIs than on the Ender II with slicing by PS on the Prusa and slicing by Cura on the Ender II but I also got massive stringing on the Prusa printed part, this is normally when the nozzle has to travel between high sections of the part and is because Cura does a little manoeuvre that breaks the tension on the filament before travelling to the next area to print, increasing the retraction on the Prusa did not solve the issue completely but the stringing was no longer connected with both areas.
    This was an extremely interesting video by the way!

    Thanks! To speed up print initialization I restore a saved mesh with an M420. I run a 5x5 mesh when ever I change bed temperature and save it. IE: If I change from PLA to ABS i'll re-run the 5x5 leveling mesh and save it.

    I like your approach with different models.
    I started with CURA some 2+ years ago, switched to Idearmaker and had better results on my modified Ender 3.
    After I switched to PS 2.0 and now 2.3 I have had better results.
    It is faster and prints more pretty and I can trust that the print is good. And I love that the filament is separated from the printer settings in an easy design.
    Not the CURA Search and find "one collum fit them all" way.

    I've had issues with my ender 5 and cura not showing correct times but there are settings within cura to (and possibly prusa) to adjust and get more accurate times, off the top of my head it's speed settings and jerk settings have to match the printers.

    so question, if my printer bed is bowed in the middle, cant i just sand down the aluminum to a level surface and just not have to worry about filling it with paper and stuff and lowering the effectivity of the heat bed where that paper is, or is it treated or something,

    I would have liked to see how the actual Benchy and Calicat times compared to the Slicer predicted times - just for confirmation that the comparison you carried over from your test print was valid

    The startup time in prusaslicer is less because it starts heating the bed and hotend simultaneously rather than heating them one after the other in cura and has a small purge line which is highly overextruted rather than a large purge line with the same extrusion rate.
    Genius method to save time as it extrudes same amount of filament for priming.

    The only thing I dislike about prusa is having the seam line , I never have to worry about seeing a seam in cura.is it possible to av?oid the seam in prusa

    hmm weird, when i try to change the settings to be the same in both slicers cura gives me a way faster estimate than prusaslicer.
    and for some reason i get no stringing with Cura while Prusaslicer gives me some stringing.

    I have a question that I’m hoping you might have an answer to. I just purchased a Creality Ender 3 V2 along with quite a few upgrades amd 6 rolls of filament and a Raspberry Pi4. My son and I were just starting to build it when we figured out a stew is missing from the top Zamia motor. The top one you would loosen then put in rod. I have tried calling customer service but I can not get ahold of anyone and we even went to Lowe’s to see if we could buy it. But they didn’t have any. Is their a change that you know where I can find one.

    What I would like to know, and yes I can install prusa and work it out myself but hey, its a lot easier to ask if anyone else has done it, is there any significant difference in slicing speed between the two? It could be just my imagination, or it could be my computer is getting old bones and slowing, but Cura appears to be getting slower at slicing with each new release. Small models is not issue, but when it comes to larger more complex models some are taking 10 minutes to slice which I dont think was the case a few revisions back.
    if Prusa was significantly faster at slicing then I think that would be enough to tip the balance in its favour as there does not appear to be much in the way of difference feature wise other than ironing and tree support, neither of which I use.
    Improvement in startup time is most likely due to Prusa heating the bed and the nozzle simultaneously and Cura heating the sequentially..
    This could be less than optimal, some printer manufacturers (creality being one) are somewhat frugal with the power supply, a number of them have PSU's that exceed their operating specs if the printer is heating both at the same time.. There have been a number of cases of burnt out PSU on the ender 5 plus i think, and other printers in thier range.
    While during printing it is not going to be that much of an issue because for the most part either/ or will be heating at any given point and only switching on for a small part of the overall time, during the pre-heat phase both would be on constantly, for an extended period of time and therefore exceeding the PSU specs for an extended time.

    This was surprising to me. In my experience, the results are exactly opposite to what you found. I’ve found that Cura estimated times are consistently longer than Prusa. I’ve also found that Cura actual times are typically longer than the estimate, while Prusa actuals are typically within a minute or so of the estimate. This applies to both shorter prints (2-3 hours) and longer prints (12+ hours). Hmmmmm.

    I just did a 32:50 hour print and turned out that Prusa over-estimated the print time by just 10 mins. Not bad really. Prusa has probably optimized the way they estimate a lot since this video upload.

      For me it comes down to personal preference. I use both. Just as I have different types of wrenches in my tool box, I have multiple slicers on my computer.

    I was using cura for my cr 10s5 and my last projects require a lot of retraction. On my print, cura estimate at 6 hours and 10 minutes
    Creality slicer estimate at 3~ hours
    it's been already 1 hour 20 minutes and my print is 46%
    wich is better now??
    i've been wasting a lot of time printing with cura
    Creality slicer have same interface like cura and all settings but the slicer works different so save time in traveling and retraction

      creality slicer IS cura... just an old version
      And the difference between the two is differences in profile not slicing..

      Almost. The most recent version of Creality Slicer also has excellent USB support and some nice UI enhancements. The better optimized profile for Creality printers is significant for beginners.

      @@MakeWithTech But essentially the same slicing engine is the point, so difference in speed is down to settings rather than software..
      Why anyone would be using creality slicer is a complete mystery to me however!

    Hi master, I'm using prusaslicer on ender 3. I have a problem within support. Firstly, it is not easy to remove the support and the bottom surface is very rough and also stringy.
    do you have any solution about that?
    I need ur solution guys, so please master or anyone 🙏
    btw, I am using PETG filament.

      In most slicers you can specify the gap between your supports and your model. In the Prusa slicer this is call the z contact distance and is available for the top of supports and the bottom of supports on the print tab. If the bottom surface is very rough you may have the nozzle too close to the print bed. These are two things you can try.

    What about Idea Maker and Kiri:Moto? I've been using more and more Idea Maker because the quality of the prints appear better than Cura. Kiri:Moto has some very nice features.

      Look at it with a text editor. You should be able to read the code. If not it is not a gcode file.

    Got an Ender 3 v2 and a Prusa i3 Mk3S+, and I use both slicers. Ender 3 v2 has always reported inaccurate times in slicing and in the control panel. PS2.3 has been extremely accurate on the Mk3S+, down to the second.

    Love yous videos, Irv! Two of the biggest time savers I have found using my Ender 3 Pro are 1) While I'm bringin up my slicer and previewing the gcode I preheat the bed and hot end, and 2) Before starting the print I move the bed and Z-axis so that they are near (but not on) their stops.

    I really like Pruca slicer, only problem i have is with the automated support getting stuck on the parts i print.

      0.25mm z distance.
      75% xy distance.
      3mm support spacing.
      4 interface layers.
      0.2mm interface layer spacing.

    I would assume the accelaration and velocity parameters of your printer profiles have most impact on speed. So unless you adjusted them to be the same (maybe I missed that), this measurements are rather meaningless.

      Yeah, travel speeds and acceleration speeds are heavy game changers here. You even can see this here in the video with objects which are mainly prints without travelling.
      Also worth to mention are things like combing, random z seam, no movement over walls and the infill percentage. All these need to be equally handled before comparing.
      In the end it is just the best path finding, which probably gives a few seconds advantage in a big print, but is it worth the try or to swap. I don´t think so.
      3D printing is an art and painting the same picture ten times, gives you ten results and take a different amount of time, even so here the painter is an robot and the variance comes from the preconfigured order of movements.
      In addition to that (when comparing printers, too) the firmware has a speed limiter per axis, so the same profile would be fast like hell on printer one and slow on printer, too, because the firmware took the weak frame into account.
      In the end more or less all printers these days are the same. It does not matter if it is 2000$ or 160$. Even the cheap ones have a sturdy frame these days. The only real difference in price are stepper drivers, filament sensors, 32bit boards, touch display and stuff. The user experience is different, but the print results are very much the same.
      Differences only come from the type of printer. FDM or Resin? Shaking bed, CoreXY or one of the others.

    This is really testing print profiles. Not slicers. No idea what infill pattern was used and that alone makes a huge difference. I think stephan of cnc kitchen has a video on infill strength, and speed, I switched to gyroid for the best combination of speed (gyroid is almost the fastest) and strength (again in all dimensions equally strong but not the absolute strongest in either dimension) you can tune acceleration, and print speeds massively to get better speeds but quality can suffer, use a larger nozzle with thicker layers to print faster. The only thing you have to worry about is how much wear and tear of those faster speeds. Think how hard stop and go traffic is when you are alternately flooring the gas and the brakes vs what it would get with lower speeds. If you have time, let it print longer. I have my infill speed turned up and inside perimeter speed. When I want further speed I combine infill layers.

    Working with both of them every day, i've found that each one has its own sophistication. Of course, i will agree with you Irv that PS is a bit faster than Cura, as well as PS's G code is lighter than Cura's that it is heavier.
