I'd recommend trying the starter before putting everything back together. I replaced one that wouldn't disengage had to swap out for one that worked.

It's $280 if I ask our local small engine mechanic to fix it. Now you have restored my faith in myself!

When I turn the key, I get no noise at all. Just silence. It will start, but you gotta ťurn the key a whole bunch of times and just hope that something finally kicks in. Any idea why my rider is such a pain to start?

Did you get it fixed? Was it the starter solenoid

@@CptSpears007 new battery, new starter, new fuse, new spark plug, new fuel filter, new air filter. Got it started a couple weeks ago and got the grass cut. got it started earlier today and cut grass until I ran out of gas. I filled it up, but now I can’t get it to start back up. I don’t know what else to try or to replace.

@@CptSpears007ok so I found the starter solenoid and it was a bit rusty so I replaced it, but the mower still will not start. I got it running just long enough to put it away and secure it for the night. That bolt near the bottom of the starter where the ground wire is secured - is this bolt supposed to be loose?

Have you checked the fuel solenoid?

The engine cover bolts are different on the front and back do you happen to know which ones went which way?

Before replacing make sure the spring on top of starter is engaging with the fly wheel... i fixed mine by lubing the spring... and waa laaa!
Ok maybe it wasn't the spring... but i sprayed wd40 ... trying to lube bearing... it worked 2x... seems it's every season... i will eventually have to replace... thanks for video!

Question. We bought a new starter online, installed it and the gear ⚙ would not disengage from the flywheel. Am I right to assume this new starter is faulty?

Sounds like it, but hard to know without looking at it.

How do you know if it’s the starter that isn’t allowing the mower to start vs the solenoid. My battery is fully charged and all the connections are fine. However, the when you turn the ignition key, it just clicks and won’t crank. I can’t tell if it’s the solenoid or the starter.

Mine is doing the same thing. Did you get this figured out by chance?

Mine is doing basically the same thing, engine barely spins, not even a complete turn. Battery is good. Any help?

@@donald6235 did you figure it out? Same thing just happened to me lol

    • @donald6235

@@cyborg2040 Yes! On mine it's the decompression valve that's located on the camshaft, it's gone bad and the entire camshaft had to be replaced. If you look around there's a video on this happening. If your valves are set properly you more than likely have a bad camshaft. Hope this helps!

If you hear the click then it’s not the solenoid

If you have the same mower as mine, find the starter online using the part number.

I'm sorry. But the way you hold and use the camera, I couldn't follow along. It would have been more helpful if the camera had the whole tractor in the frame and then closed in on the part.
