I would say the hard thing about the program is the dedication and staying focus throughtout the program. You will be spending many hours studying anatomy, medical terminology and a lot of instruments. For me the hard thing about going to clinicals is waking up at 3:30 every morning but is worth it!! I feel fortunate that I get to stand next to a surgeon and perform surgery. Not anybody can do that. Hard work does pays off. Don't be nervous, enjoy the process. If I can do it, you can do it too.
wow 7 years from now how its been im in higschool rightnow lol
Thanks my dear for the encouragement am an OT member too
Amen to your words
i am a german surgical technologist at europes biggest hospital.. it is pretty interesting to see how totally different my american collegues work.. ! let's keep up the good work!!
Can a OTT from Kenya be able to work in countries like US, German ....how please
In the process of applying for school and hopefully being accepted into the Surg tech program. I can’t wait to hopefully call this my career!
Excellent presentation on what is done pre-operative , enter operative and post-operatively on the role of surgical personnel , and the over all duties of the Surgical Technologist. .Great job.
I just started my long journey to become a Surgical Technologist. I can not wait to start working in the field. I love the OR!
I love love love being a surgical tech!!!
I just recently took the TEAS pre-entrance exam for a surg tech program.. thank goodness i passed!! Though, it doesnt guarantee admission into the program i am trying for. Theres a few more steps to take until i know for sure if ive been accepted.. but if i do get accepted then i will start in october and will be SOO excited to start. I did A LOT of research for quite some time before making the decision to try and go to school for surg tech.. as well as A LOT of studying for the TEAS. This video just pumped me up even more!
I also love to see all the comments from so many people in this profession that are passionate about their career.. Makes me feel even more confident with my decision than i already was. Praying that i get in!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Good, luck. I'm studying to take the TEAS now and ughk god I'm so nervous already and I haven't even scheduled my exam date lol. Best of luck to you! God bless
Did you get in?
This was a clear view on Surgical Technology. Thank you for sharing this with us.
This motivated me even more to pursue this career🙏 I remember as a Medical Assistant I worked at a ENT office and one of our doctors did all the surgeries & I would prepare and assist him with procedures & I just remember it was the best feeling ever! The best part how our patients would come back for post op saying they were feeling so much better and were appreciative of all the work that was done🙌❤
Thank you Alisiha. This is honestly the most well-rounded and thorough clip Ive seen yet on Surge Tech. Im starting the program soon hopefully and Im looking into insight as I have no one in my family or relationships that I know who is a ST. Really great 411.
This is what I am in school for now I am so excited I can't wait until I officially become a surgical technologist
How long is schooling for Surgical Tech?
@@priscillaaortegaa between 12 to 24 months I currently taking the program at a community college so its 2 years for me
@@kristinaanderson6380 Do you need to take prereqs to get in the program?
@@priscillaaortegaa I didn't need to I just applied and started the program last month it all depends on what program or college you are attending to
@@kristinaanderson6380 Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much for this video. I have been wanting to be a Surgical Tech for a few years and I'm finally enrolled in school and start in November. Looking so forward to learning so much and being part of a Surgical Team
Part I
I'm now almost 20 years Surgical Technologist in a very large university hospital in Munich/Germany and I find it very interesting to see the differences between Europe and the U.S. We for example use cloth or fleece liners in our instruments containers. Also, the surgical hand disinfection differs.
right now I could not decide if I want to continue my education as a Dental Hygenist or become a Surgical Technologist or Surgical First Assistant, your video helped me a lot to know what exactly surgical technologist do, thanks a lot
I am a Surg Tech/SPD Tech but one thing I noticed so far about this video, is she does not give enough credit to what the Anesthesiologist does. Its more than keeping the patient asleep. I just feel they deserve a lot more credit than that, besides that the video is really awesome!
Vampirechik666 um, is that why a crna can suffice?
I will start next month. I'm excited.🙏
This is a GREAT video! Exactly how a Surgical Technologist job is.
I have one class left, b4 I graduate as a Medical assistant. I've also been working as a CBS for 13 years. I thought I wanted to continue in nursing, but lately I've been thinking about St. U make it look easy!!! So in January I'm starting the degree program at my local community college, I'm so excited!!! Your awesome, thanks for the inspiration... :))
I love the video but i dont nkow yet if i'll be accetpted with financial aid .its intersting thx.
Awesome video, I am almost 33, I have a one year old daughter, I am from England, I live in the USA. And I have decided that Surgical Technologist is what I want to do. I am planning on starting school in the fall this year. I am first going to do a phlebotomy course, so I can work while going to school, that will be during the summer and also need to get the English and Math classes they require for entry into the Surgical Technologist course. Its only taken me 16 yrs to decide what field I want to go into! (since leaving school) LOL But this is it.
I'm pushing 30 & was thinking why am I taking so long to figure out what I wanted to do. If only I would've been more motivated after high school. Good luck to you ;)
I'm going through the same thing. I'm 30 and I've been thinking about doing this since I was 18, but wasn't sure. I finally decided this is the career I want. I just need a math course so I can pass the math part of the compass test to get in.
+megan Davis I have been a scrub tech for a couple years now, and i absolutely love my job. The schooling is fun, exciting, challenging, and absolutely terrifying; all at the same time XD
Nontyo Business
I've got an honest question for you: Would you recommend this profession to someone who's sensitive and hates interacting with patients? (I'm asking for my sister).
actually this would be one of the greatest jobs in a hospital if those are your concerns. WE do maybe 2% patient interaction, it could be more, or it could honestly be .5% if you wanted to do it that way. the patient comes into the room, while you are at your sterile field. you can simply say hello, or say nothing. either way is fine. then the patient will go to sleep, and leave the room before they are conscience enough to have a conversation with you. its actually pretty awesome not dealing with patients in that respect.
Love your video. Shows everything and all details that you will be taking during the process of your job.
Thank you, Alisiha!
PCC I really wish you offered Surgical tech. I have no desire to go all the way to Gresham. that makes for an extremely long day. You need this program.
Part II
We wash hands thoroughly, dry it and then use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that shall be applied about 3 minutes. On the whole, however, we work pretty much the same. However, what I noticed you use always very fragile-looking instrument tables. Thank you for this very interesting video.
I have decided I am going to be an RN specializing in surgical nursing.
I start my clinicals next week. I am really excited. Hopefully I graduate in June. Wish me luck!!
I learned a lot just from this video. thanks
This is what I'm going to college for! I'm really excited!
I'm currently going to school for surgical tech. We have not gotten to the instruments yet and was wondering if they were difficult to learn? Also, before each surgery do you get a list of ALL the instruments you will need for the surgery so you can set them out and the order the surgeon will usually use them in?
Did you end up going through it and are you a surgical tech now ?
We must know
Please respond !
@@jumbojimbo6308 Yep! Called a Preference Card. Has a list of EVERYTHING you need for the case, that will help you build your case cart. In school you have to learn a ton though.. It's so tough.
@@darrenlester4899 spd techs normally is the one tht picks and put the sets in the case cart. It might be different in other hospitals but in mine it’s set up like tht.
I agree. They not only keep the patient asleep, most importantly, they keep them alive during surgery!
Physician would be the correct term. MD's and DO's are both doctors...
Btw, it makes perfect sense that doctors earn more if you ask me, it's a matter of experience and education, so not sure why it bothers you, lol. I however agree on the nurses not making similar wages but that also depends on whether we're talking about CNA's or RN's.
If you research a bit, the average starting is 30k to 35k. But I believe you can move up. I believe there is a lead tech for example. And in Sterile Processing, which is a supplement for surgical techs and a different department, there are management titles.
Nice Video. I am a ST & instructor. Good luck all
not close to the circulating nurse im doing my clinicals now and RN make about 80k a yr to start a tech can start from 45k-50k a year at a hospital. depending on the hospital too. some hospitals that go based on the step ladder and others don't. if its based on the step ladder you can make more if you specialize on more than one type of surgery like nuero, ortho, vascular or cardio. if you branch off into the private sector you can make more if u go to plastics.... etc etc or less like dentistry
very helpful video!!!! currently a student! helps me visualize what to expect!!
Cool job and all and it also sounds very fulfilling. However, it is extremely hard for me to stand in one place for hours on end.
THIS IS DOPE
awesome, i have two more semester to go. I took medical terminology, its a easy class.
Maximum how many surgeon technologists work in the operating room?????
I'm pretty sure just one!
I’m wondering how to get use to the blood and guts
Watch surgical procedures! Especially bloody ones would be any hepatic (liver) injury videos, so you’ll look up “ liver laceration surgery” the hardest ones for me to watch are knee surgery videos 😖
I've never shaken excess water off my arms after scrubbing in.
If anyone has any questions about being a surgical tech, just ask.
Forsaken Individual hey I just started surgical tech school! I have so many questions!
Is there any scope for plastic reconstructive and cosmetic technoloist?
How much do an technoloist earn?
Do you have a email so I can ask questions?!
what happens if you have to use the Bathroom?
It looks so easy!! I start Feb 25th excited...
Ok so I can check surgical tech off my list
You restring your unused instruments! I would love for the techs to do that. I'm lucky if there isn't bloody instruments with the unused. I'm a Sterile processing tech but am going to cross train since we are so short staff due to vacations. I am lucky to have half the battle and know the instrument names and how to scrub in. Set up and maintaining a sterile field are my biggest concerns. It's interesting to hear someone's thoughts about what is needed to be done since usually when I observe cases I'm focused on what the physician is doing.
how much is the pay?
thank you:-)
I'm thinking about this field... but i would just get to sweaty with all that stuff on. I sweat a lot already.
Has anyone heard of Star career academy? Thats were im looking to study to become a surgical technologist
Can someone tell me the difference from CST CERTIFICATE Program (1 year) as to a CST ASSOCIATES DEGREE? PAY? Types of surgerys involved in? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
There is no difference. but it might be easier getting hired if you have your AA as a CST.
What school/college did you go to get to get your surgical technician career started ?
i actually have 2 more classes anatomy/phsiology and a medical terminolgy class, after that i can apply for the surgical tech program in fall of next year. I really hope im getting into the right feild. I did my research on it and everything seems so exciting, its not a dull moment cause of the many diffrent cases. Can anyone tell me what you learn during the program?
May I ask where are you now in your journey?
What is helping with the retractor? Do we actually have to help the surgeo work on the patient, or do we just hand him stuff
I believe Surgical Assistant's actually work on the patient, while the technologists hand the instruments. :)
This is something im very interesting in doing
Is there any scope for plastic reconstructive and cosmetic technoloist?
Sure. There's plastic surgery practices you can work in.
Aren't you suppose to do the 5 minute wash before u go inside the room to open up the table cover because if it's sterile and she didn't wash her hands before hmm and then went after idk just a thought and I didn't see her put on shoe covers
The edges of the table cover aren't considered sterile.
Naturally Nique97 you're mistaken
I left my shoes in our locker room. Since they stayed in the hospital, I didn't have to wear shoe covers. I always found the shoe covers slippery.
how much do they make an hr?i hope its the same or near as an RN
Dee Swin k
Her fingers came out of the white cuff on her gown prior to gloving...not sterile 😭
Jennifer Ray what you don’t realize is she is gloved up! Those gloves are see through and look like you’re not wearing anything.
The truth is, people, don't become a surgical tech unless it's merely a stepping stone. I've been a scrub tech for 15 years, and take my word for it.
Become an RN.
Forsaken Individual RN is a great career, no denying that. however surgical technologist can further their education and become first surgical assist which in most cases makes slightly more than an RN from what I've seen. 38/hr I've seen several times. the only downside is that unlike an RN you are basically stuck in the OR and have little option of the different departments.
Waxy12 I make 37 an hour as a scrub tech. I'm also a first assist, although, CSFA is not recognized in ca, but an RNFA certainly is. The RNFAs I know make over 250k a year. A standard circulating RN makes 70 an hour where I work.
Waxy12 I posted some great comments earlier, but the moderator deleted them.
Forsaken Individual, first assist isn't recognized in SC. Salary depends on where you live. Your hourly wage may be lower here, but the cost of living will be lower. There's no union here, either. I'm an RN in the OR. Where I worked , RNs had to scrub sometimes. Personally, I enjoyed scrubbing or assisting. This is why I loved the OR, though. I wasn't doing the same thing every day.
Not everyone wants to have the responsibility of being a RN. I sure don't. The money is just as good in Surgical Technology...plus, less school :)
i am going to school to become a surgical technologist
What do u do if u really have to pee!! Seriously...
Tell the nurse to send another tech to relieve u so u can use the restroom
Sometimes you have to hold it.
in America do you have to be a nurse to circulate?
Yes
I'm just starting prerequisites to get into the Surg Tech program. How do you know what instruments to set up for every surgery? Do you always use the same ones?
The sad part of been a surgical tech is that from my opinion i dont think it pays what is suppose to considering you will pay close to $50,000 For the program.Basically you will go to school to get a job and pay for
school.I rather make $3 dollars less and stay as a crcst tech.
Emildd Burgos Where is the program you're talking about? The one I'm going to costs 11,463. It's a10 month program and and a nationally accredited program.
Tori Jackson Wow that is really cheap.I am located in providence Rhode Island and there's only one technical school that offer this program.Maybe that's probably why..
Emildd Burgos Yup, that and your location too
Emildd Burgos the community college program here wayyyyy cheaper and certain practices pay more than other like plastic surgery and private practices depends all where you work in Florida in my area they make good money but like you said they should be paid more and I believe should get as much respect as RNs because I've heard of them not being treated with the same respect
omg 50,000? that is P.A. program cost. I paid roughly 3000 for my program. I am in Boston, ma and the pay here is pretty good.
Don't piss yourself, and be patient.
Well, considering the length of training required to be a Surgical Tech vs an M.D., it's not surprising to me. Not saying a Surgical Tech doesn't have a lot of responsibilities, but compared to an M.D., it's no comparison.
Not CBS, cna
i am ot tech i am looking jobs pls help me
do surgical techs have to perform urinary catheterization?
No.
They can, though.
Not usually in bigger hospitals. But you are trained to.

im going to college to become a surgical tech.....::::)))))
How is it
Cnanot cbs
