You can vote daily for your favorite Onx build! www.onxmaps.com/offroad/app/build-challenge#build-vote
So many of my favourite UA-camrs to vote for. Now who has the biggest bribe for votes. 😊 Kidding.
8:34 yeah what Chad said
I am extremely dyslexic and I stand behind what Paul said 100%
I obviously missed something if you were going to shorten the frame
Why did you shorten the frame
Then shorten the frame???
Well I've narrowed it down to voting for you or Robbie
I'll vote for whoever sends me a shirt first😂😂😂😂
I know it was Matt but I learned a lot from that first off-road record games you guys definitely believe in the bribes system
That's the loudest cricket I have ever heard in my 57 years....and Happy Dad's day to all the Fathers.
Ikr 😂😂
That's cuz he swiped an external mic ( in revenge for them stompin' his cousin )
I stopped the video to see if the cricket was in my house!
@@brentjackson9440 I had the same reaction
lol
Man I love it this is how kids are supposed to be raised. Outside in the dirt mud building their immune systems
❤
That's why I'm fit as a fiddle never had a vaccine didn't have one through covid never get sick, never got sick ever, I mean ever!!! Go eat some dirt go play in the mud stop chasing your kids around with Lysol
Except overprotective mothers now have positions of political power and have outlawed these healthful activities!
Whenever I see them all together doing crazy things, I think of Stand By me and The Goonies together at last!.
Chad adds such a grounding element to all these projects.
For the tough times that are coming, a friend like Chad would be golden. I just love his calm foresight.
this is what I love about Fab Rats and Matt's Offroad Recovery. They take their people out of their comfort zone and teach them real world skills. I love seeing Paul's kids and Hunter getting down in the trenches and doing a bit of dirty work.
Two or the best dads in the world working together happy Father's day Paul and Chad!
I love how far Hunter has come and how Paul teaches him as they go instead of just telling him to be the camera man. Super awesome of Paul.
That cricket needs its own youtube channel
Love how the three boys stole the show. How amazing to see young boys today doing things outside and experiencing real time life. Reminds me of my youth back in the 60’s. 👏
Ditto-but the 70’s lol!!
Yep...I grew up during the 60's/70's on a little island in the Atlantic...scavenging parts to build stuff...bikes, boats etc...Fishing in the ocean and ponds and brooks...and digigng clams to boil on the beach...hunting with pellet rifles and 22's. We had imagination and we had fun. Good to see that in those boys...it will mold them into self sufficuent adults.
I grew up in the 50's , 60's and 70's on a 160 acres in Kansas !
Grew up in 80's
Hated cartoons.
Played all my atari games to death. Loved fishing for crawdads at local pond
Raising those kids right! Most kids today are inside playing video games all day, yours are out there catching mud bugs and cooking them up with some potatoes in a Dutch oven!!!
They better be cooking them outside over a fire!!!
Happy Fathers Day Chad & Paul. Your boys are getting the best "education" a dad can provide. LUV this whole scenario. You and Chad are two of my favorite people. I have said it before, but bears repeating: the group of channels that include Matt, Robby, Paul, Chad, Merlin, and all of the cast provide some of the best of the best in internet entertainment. Can't live without it!!!! God Bless All
Agreed!
Those boys are living their best lives ever, so fortunate to live in an environment that they can learn life lessons and succeed on their own.
It is so refreshing seeing boys actually raised the right way
Happy Father's Day Gents.
My favorite shows on UA-cam.
Fab Rats, Matt's off road, Robby Layton, Trail Mater, Chads Fab and Merlin's Garage. The best shows, the best Families and the best content. I Love the fact that all of you know each other and are great friends.
Agree 👍. Add to that list, Mustie1 you’ll thank me later 😊
Don't forget the Peck brothers, great channel as well 😊
Memories of long gone days for me now ,You guys brighten my days for hours on end !! My kids are older than the two of you .If I were 40 years younger I'd be right there with ya !!
Those Kids are the true definition of "Young Men". God Bless them and Fab-Rats from Provo,Utah USA!!!
Happy father's day Paul, and to all the dads out there.
Chad is so awesome! Hes definitely the type of guy that you can call on his wedding day and he will drop what hes doing to come help you. Great guy to have in your corner.
Kids catching fish and crawdads and falling in the pond and cooking potatoes in cast iron and visiting dad in the garage and I'm thinking these boys are having my happy childhood.
Happy Father's Day Paul, you have a beautiful family.
Love that crawdad eatin little rat pack! They need more videos, that's a catch and cook video I would have loved to see!
Chad is an amazing friend. Paul is balls to the wall, "get a bigger hammer" and Chad is a fineness, precision kind of guy. Ying to the yang
Yes they are not fighting each other for tools.
Chad is Beavis to Pauls Butt-Head. lol
Chad is to Paul what Tom Tom was to Matt😂
@@stevez340 🤣🤣🤣But TOM TOM is Gone
@@MacsSpecialitiesMotorsports I know, but surprisingly, Jake has stepped up and has adapted to increased responsibility much quicker than I expected👍
Those boys are awesome! They crack me up. That’s exactly how I imagine Paul was at that age.
A ford 300i6 would be perfect for that build, best truck motor ever.
But how efficient would it be? Part of overlanding is going out well away from infrastructure like gas stations, and you can only carry so much fuel with you before it just adds too much weight to be worth the effort. That's why they were going for a diesel. I'm guessing there will be a part of the OnX Challenge that stresses fuel efficiency...
@@AndrewAMartin They get way better mpg than v8's when set up right and almost have the torque of a 454.
@@jeffvw1994 I'm sure the Jeep purists would insist that the 4.0 liter I-6 is better, and is the appropriate motor for the build, but they don't get great mileage. They're torque-y too, but maybe not enough horsepower for the build. We'll have to wait and see what they come up with...
@@AndrewAMartin People use the 300i6 in dragsters, all kinds of ways to build them.
@@AndrewAMartin Diesel is a bad idea. You mention well away from infrastructure, and you can only carry so much. The problem with diesel is that it is becoming less and less common to find. Even world travelers recommend gas. Plus, diesel engines just add a ton of weight. The best choice is gas and something that is very common worldwide and very easy to work on. Besides this build most likely will rarely get used after the challenge. Budget wise why not just stick with what was already in it.
Like the shop cat photo bomb Nothing gets done without the inspectors approval
Fab Cat keeping a eye on the Fab Rats
The frame has been 'Cat-scanned' for flaws and it's purrrfect...
I appreciate the additon of educational information included in this video. This included things like the discussion of the frame splice method and location, and showing Hunter how to improve his down hill welding technique. I would like to see more of this type of content such as calling out wall thicknesses of tubing and gusset thickness. And I am sure the haters and keyboard warriors would love telling you why it was the wrong choice.
Pro tip: After you level the frame and center the rear axle, Take a couple of scrap pieces of angle and tack the axle to the frame at ride height. That way any follow on measurements of your links and mounts will be spot on square to the axle and frame. Once all the mounts are tacked in place and links are fitted, simply remove the temp angle braces.
glad to have grown up in the 70s catching crayfish/crawdads from the local pond and creeks for a friday night boil in the summers when we were on break from school
You guys make a good team. Always happy to see you and Chad working together.
Paul, just cut the frame off square, give it an 1/8 gap and weld it... Maybe a tab on the bottom flange but you know what you're doing.. PLUS, God Bless you for raising those boys like boys.. Allowed to go out and get dirty, drink a little pond water if they fall in, con Hunter into eating something he has no idea what it is.. Priceless memories they will have the rest of their lives...
Paul those kids need their own channel. They have been keeping busy. Plus the money can go toward all their school needs for the next 8 years.
I'm sure one of us viewer and followers would have a 4bt cummings they would donate to the build if I had one I'd definitely Give it to you
Tech school! Don't let them close to them indoctrination camps
A lot of channels with kids get demonitized completely
The Fab Mice
Forget school needs helps fund their own projects. They can learn way more doing that than school.
A nice touch putting a cricket on the microphone. Fun times.
Wish I had somebody like Paul around when I first started welding. I learned the old-fashioned way. Made a lot of scrap, and wasted a lot of rod and wire. Wish I had the money back I spent on grinding wheels. And I'm still barely a mediocre welder. Lmao 🤣😂
Happy Father's Day!
Love this video with the team of Chad and Paul doing this onx off road build. Grandma Lolly stopped by to tell Paul what size of engine is in the tow tractor! Landon and Hunter doing their thing as usual. Graden, Korbin and friends cooking crawdad's and having fun! Great video!
The boys cooking up some crawdads they caught was the highlight of the video for me. I use to go down to the crick and catch crawdads to sell for fishing. Great to see kids still getting out there today and even cooking them up.
Love seeing boys being boys! I spent a LOT of my summers playing in the irrigation pond and ditches. Love Summertime!!! Chad is the right guy to team up with. Good luck guys!
Paul and Chad get together usually means their youngest boys will get up to something and this time is not a disappointment.
They’d definitely find a way to survive if they ever got stranded somewhere.
Happy Father's Day! I'm glad to see Chad on your channel. Lots of friendship and fun! Thank you for sharing 👌
Nothing like 40 minutes of fab crickets. Love that sound
Gotta say, Paul and Chad are #1 now, 10,300 votes with Roby at 6,520. Way to go voters 👍🏼 please keep voting.
This rig there building is going to be AWESOME. can't wait to see what the finished product is going to be.
God Bless and have a great day ya'll 🇺🇸
Cut the dang frame how ever u want Paul your the expert whatever works for you makes me happy
That's the way I'm his stuff. He can do it how he wants it. But so many armchair expert on YT theses days.
I really like Willys thanks for building the 1959 Fab Rats 🙏🏼👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Chad is Utahs secret weapon…..better than any I have seen! 😃👍🏼👍🏼….both in skill and character!
Hi guys. You all feel like family to me. Thanks for being so great. 🎉 if I lived closer I’d love to stop in for a visit. You rock! 🪨
Sounds like the cicada is stealing Hunters thunder at about 28 min mark. Bless you man we love ya man !!
I kept thinking, why can hear them ? Its 11:45 and already too hot .... Oh it's his shop, not my yard....
It’s a cricket, most likely a Mormon Cricket, looking for its missing friend who “disappeared” from the shop last week.
Look at the wind blowing through Chad's hair!
Two of UA-cam's best builders, this should be one sweet ride!
Glad to see some kids still enjoying the outdoors
Butt weld with a diamond is perfectly fine! Done it on racecar frames for years and never had any problems
That frame will be just fine. Like Chad said box the inside you’ll be good 🤙🏻
The way you guys all interact as one big family is the highlight for me. And you're raising some darn good kids there! That all being said, can you please have the boys search and destroy that damn cricket please!?
Love how you let the boys be boys! So much to learn by trying!
I hope everyone had a great Father's day!
I set my 56 Will's on a Toyota Tacoma frame and it worked great!
I put my 52 Willys on a 79 Scout II frame with running gear.
I'm still debating on what to do with my '57 Willys ! It still has all of the original parts !
Happy Father's Day Paul❤
I love how you are always teaching has you work. Passing on the knowledge.
Happy Father’s Day to all
28:00 Shaun and Hunter your cricket friend is back in the shop. They are louder then Chad and Paul. lol
That cricket was not messing around 😂
Greetings Paul, Fab Rats workers, family, and fans, have a wonderful Father's Day!!! Everyone have a wonderful Sunday and enjoy day!!
You ask any kid that same age in my town what a Dutch oven is and you would just get a blink blink. Good job guys.
Hunter did the right move, always have the back of the guy who does your wiring.
Happy Father’s Day Paul
Good to see you and Chad jammin' together again. Y'all need to have Matt show up for a couple days too and have the band back together for a collab. I'm really glad I found you guys channel and those y'all CDO collaborations with. Some really informative and enjoyable entertainment value. Thank you all for your effort and hard work 👍😎🇺🇸🙏😌🎉
Good to see the Chad Rats team back together. Cant wait to see the final product
Weld up hill!!! Never down hill unless it's sheet metal!!
Welding downhill vertical drives me crazy also coming from submarine fabrication.
I hope you guys really are having as much fun as it looks like you are! 😊
Who else went nuts looking for a cricket?
The best fabricator on the tube and the best wire guru, this build is gunna be good
Like I say "it's your sand box it's your choice. " If it doesn't work you'll be the first to know, it's Hunters fault. Grader and his buddies will have a lot of good memories hanging out together. This build will sure be interesting. Good video !
Growing up in Paragonah we had an airport tug named The Mule. We used it to move a dragline sprinkler. Now suspension, bouncing across furrows. Sore butt, good memories.
You all are IN THE LEAD!!!!
Thanks for my father's day gift , Chad and Paul love your families and how you both work together !
Happy Fathers Day to Paul and Chad, two great dads.
I was sitting there, thinking, “man, Paul almost got that wrench in the face”! When he says, “that frame just saved my life”😮
Frame repair. Look at the section of the frame channel. Stresses are the greatest at the flanges: compression on the top flange and tension on the bottom flange. Zero in the center. The diamond repair looks great, but puts most on the strength in the center where it is not requires. I would weld 1/4" flat bar on the flanges. Of course, this is my opinion, and it is worth what you are paying for it. LOL
Does my heart good to see the way those kids fish and cook.
Just wanna say I would take those 3 rascals in my boyscout group anytime, they know cooking ! Congrats boys !
Viva Team Chad's Fabr Rats!
On frame cuts, you're only doing it wrong if it breaks under normal load.
Happy Father's Paul. I know this wasnt filmed today. But its airing on fathers day 😂😂😂
Paul, I'd love for you to do a video on how you design a front and rear suspension like this. Guidelines, rules, tricks, etc..
Was I the only one that started to look around for a cricket? 🤣😂🤣
The speaker was throwing the sound. Lol.
I think i would have just cut the bolt on that hanger. 🤔👍
Watching all the UT crews is inspiring. 👍
My brother got into mud racing a while back. He shortened a wagoneer frame using straight cuts, butt welds and diamond plated both sides. He beat that racer without mercy. Never broke it.
Yah baybee, this build is going to be fun!! Chad is the right guy for this project.
Those boys and the crawdad potato moment for some reason reminded me of Stand By Me ...
Man that cricket is the real star of this video!
Paul…love your work! I am a degreed electrical engineer who made it thru public education & university degree, all with undiagnosed dyslexia ( I call it Sydlexia). It was an evening playing dominoes with wine and a retired special ed teacher that uncovered my truth. You are the real friggen deal.
LOL, love watching how you deal with the "issues" at hand. I think C. W. McCall wrote a song with you in mind "...you wanna put that STRUGGLE-BUS in behind that Suicide Jockey?" Paul, I'm not sure which one you are 😂🤣 Love your shows👍
It was nice to have meant you and your whole family hope me Steven my brother Keith can come see your shop and Matt's off road
While watching the frame cutting segment, I realized how much Hunter adds to this channel as cameraman. He’s the best of anybody doing it because he asks the same questions that us viewers are wondering while watching. I really love that about this channel. Some channels the cameraman never says anything, which is fine, but I really enjoy what Hunter adds to the videos when recording by helping clarify what’s going on. He’s almost like the director of the set sometimes by getting the guys to talk about what they’re doing instead of just doing it. Whatever you guys are paying him, it’s not enough cause he’s great at it and he takes so much initiative to do the job better than he even has to. He’s also great with the younger kids when they’re around and you can tell they look up to him. You couldn’t find a better employee if you tried and you hit the lottery when he came to the shop.
😂😂😂 “and you ate it?” Pure comedy!
But seriously just tape a go pro to Graders and keep it charged. I would watch that channel over everything
Just a treat to watch everything going on around you guys while you are building these rigs 👌
You'll going to make a great team, FabRats & Chad Fab.
100 percent the frame saved your life!!!
The boys need "chad's and the rats boys survival channel" where they do whatever happens during the day!!
I'm more of a Z channel cut kind of guy with the diamond plate for strength!! This build is going to be up there with the tow truck!!
London's mates hair blowing in the swamp cooler so majestic 😂😂
Glad to see Chad brought his safety glasses along. Maybe he could teach the Rats how they work before the they need to figure out how to make a glass eye.
After doing a bunch of research, I found a structural engineer talking about this very thing, a straight cut is every bit as strong & simpler. Adding a fish plate over it would be added security against cracking but I'm in the same camp as you & Chad, boxing the inside or adding another plate offers added Pease of mind. Overkill beats fixing it twice.
Looks rad!
Happy Father's day!
Yawl should name that cricket. I love it! Funny though makes me pause your video to see if it’s in my home. LoL
