I was Lucky enough to have the Perkins Brothers build a rental cabin and our house here in Bryson City N.C., the craftsmanship really shows very pleased, great guys.
I watched numerous videos before I found yours, and you addressed and thoroughly answered every question I had! You are doing a great job with your videos, I think I've watched them all! Very informative, thorough and a great attitude in general. Another quality that I appreciate hugely is the lack of profanity. Thank you, sir! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for this video. I watched several other barn door installation videos and none of them answered questions like where exactly to locate the backer board and rail (Centering the track along the right edge of the door opening).
PRO YOU TUBE STARS AT WORK ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️‼️ Great Build and Video‼️ Seeing the details and explanation gives me greater appreciation for these beautiful upgrades- Thank You‼️ Blessings and Prayers for YALL- and HEALING FOR JAMIE‼️
Yea guys thanks for the video explaining the hardware. Even though the Lowes kit says indoor, I used it for outdoor on my pool hutch. I made the door from 2x4s and fence wood to match my existing fence board on board so the door is pretty heavy so I wont install the jump pucks. Also I used two kits to make for a 6ft beam. Alot of the parts in the kit I wont use such as the soft close and also I ordered seperately guides that attach to the wall not the ground since ground is n/a. But also yea thanks for revealing what the little plastic plugs are for.
There are some guides available that mount to the door casing or to the base that I prefer to use instead of the plastic guides that mount to the floor like you used in this video. I will keep praying for Jaime, he's smart and resilient, I'm confident that he will be back doing what he loves and will figure out ways to work around the stubby fingers.
Great video... the only time those get tricky is when it’s a double door they don’t provide a stop for the center I always have to fabricate one and I stared making that header piece the same height as the spacer the bolts run through and painting it the same color as the wall the homeowners seen to prefer that way or the interior decorators lol Love the videos keep it up, We’ll continue praying for Jamie hope to see him back on the job soon doing what he loves to do.
I've had the same problem with the double doors and center stops. I hope that some day someone will market a double stop for the center. What I usually do is cut two stops off right behind the 1st set screw turn them so they stop the doors and then get the rollers mounted on the doors the right width.
I've watched countless videos &YOUR VIDEOS IS THE BEST!!!!You answered all of my questions It's a plus you used an off the shelf kit from Lowe's WELL DONE!
thank you for this video! SO MUCH more thorough explanation of this than the "this Old House" video! I don't think I can do it by myself. Wish I had help!
Cute lil barn door. Im always putting in actual barn doors, they keep making the machinery bigger and bigger, so the barn has to be modified! Good video! Holler atcha from northern IL
We have installed a few of these.... I have always thought they looked better with no trim on the opening. Just a sheet rock corner back to otherside. Just a cleaner look on the wall.
Great video. I would add door height to the list. Most store bought doors will be too short as the barn door covers trim above the opening leaving an air gap at the bottom.
I would recommend a solid style door. We used hollow doors with very thing panels and the bolts holding the wheels started to wear out the holes quickly every time it a stop
What about that outlet? Will whatever is plugged need to be unplugged everytime you want to open the door? And I have numerous barn door kits and that header is designed to do exactly what you thought, keep the door away from the wall. And gasp, here on the west coast not everyone trims around their closet doors so the trim isn't an impediment in hanging a barn door.
Excellent video and knowing about the "safety puck" is helpful. I'm wondering if you can help me with a problem I have. I purchased a home with a sliding barn door in the master bath. Now the door seems to drag on the floor guides (routed groove type) and I'd like to fix that, but it doesn't appear that the door hardware allows for vertical adjustments. So, I was thinking of removing the door and sanding the bottom. Is this the only way to raise an installed barn door? Oh yeah, you could easily pass for a John Denver impersonator.
Thank you, this was very helpful. How do you know ho high over the door way to put your track so once you put the rollers on the door, you're door is about 1/8 of an inch from the ground?
I don’t personally like barn doors, I think they’re kinda tacky, but that said they really aren’t hard to mount, if you mount the track directly to the wall the hardware on the wheels that bolts through the door will hit the trim, if there’s no trim you can get away with it
Hi guys. I know this isn't related but I just have a couple questions about asbestos if u have time. Would you keep living in your house while asbestos is been removed even by professionals? Would you also do extra cleaning after they have gone? I live in Australia and have heard some contractors are not that careful. Thanks
I’m not a fan of barn doors, I think it’s a fad. IMO, if you’re going to use them in a room, the rest of the room’s trim should also be, rough sawed, natural trim. Great tips for mounting one. 👍
Funny that you used the exact same kit as i did alraedy several times. especialy because I live in the Netherlands Europe. Everywhere i try to order these barn door kits it's the same one. I guess its made in China and this factory produces millions of it.
It's actually because the company is based in Europe and it matches their stud spacing. They converted the kit with different spacers for the US market but you need a header board. $0.20 piece of plastic vs a new piece of bar stock that needs to be drilled to different spacing.
@@PerkinsBuilderBrothers That is what I ran into when I had one. I contacted the manufacturer. Now whether the industry came to the conclusion that a header was better than thicker spacers is probably just an assumption on my part. Typically it's ~23 on center in Europe. So framing around a door with double studs would bring it to 20" ish.

Most intelligent useful building channel on UA-cam. Scratch that...on the Planet!
the graphics on the barn door at the intro is charming and great vid about the hardware.

Good video, thanks. Always enjoy the comedy tossed into the mix, great job guys.
I have three of these that my wife and I need to hang here in a week or so, this video was helpful and had perfect timing. Thank you!
That’s a perfect idea for that smaller door opening! Great job again!! 👍👍👍😎🇨🇱 prayers still going out to your brother!

Have you used the soft close for the barn doors yet?
Just the damper that goes on the traditional hardware I haven’t installed some of the bulkier soft close hardware although I wouldn’t be apposed to it

Good info - I am going to replace my bath door with a barn door to save space.
Love the end with the two guys discussing making their own videos.
Instructive and funny!

Very good, you answered all the questions I needed to know.
great work.

3:53 anti jump disc great video
You guys are so funny! I remember when you "delivered" a router and wondered when you were going to cut the cord!
Thanks so much, now I’m not nervous of installing my barn door…..
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!!
I always have more thinking about where to set my rollers with out messing up and drill in the wrong place
I would recommend a solid style door. We used hollow doors with very thing panels and the bolts holding the wheels started to wear out the holes quickly every time it a stop
thanks for the tips
Fantastic!!
And did I see an (4:46) open miter joint?!?😮
Y’all need Jamie back really quick! He wouldn’t have let that get by at all! 😁
Very very ,, helpful information,,thx….👍🙏
Literally the same hardware as out barn doors ! Must get them from the same place ;)

Dad was always asking us kids if we were "raised in a barn?!"

Can you let me know how to lift a sliding barn door if it's dragging on the floor guides (routed groove type)? Thanks.
Informative video , don't quit your day jobs though .
nice door bud

Thbaks for sharing, i Still dont get the round hardsware on the door frame.
I cant wait to see their UA-cam channel!
Where?
@@bronsontaylor7333 I was implying that the gentlemen at the end of the video were going to make there own channel
😂🤣😂
@@pacificnwcarpenter5486 over where?
@@bronsontaylor7333 I see I used the wrong there
Door looks good, the mounting hardware wood drive me crazy tho...imo
Since you dont have a stud at 20" on center, did the lag screws go through the header into the sheetrock?
Wish the video was up a last week. I just installed 4 and it was a pain

Sliding the door to the right, will it be a problem if something is plugged in to the electrical outlet it slides over?

What should I use to lubricate the rails?

the hole spacing sucks if you don't have trim though.
can you mount these on the inside of the room?
I have a question with the floor guide. My flooring is tile. What's the best way to attach the guide?
They have guides that attach to the baseboard so you do not have to attach to the tile
Ahh, so that's when RayJay got the idea 💡
Record on men, record on
So many barn doors here in California lately, when will this end?
PST...hey your barn door is open.
Watch all the videos It's the same one all the time. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!!!
hooe your bro is doing ok

Very interesting… So the European equivalent is 20 inch spacing on studs?

It's not a good build video if there isn't a smoke detector cameo!
Wow, you covered everything EXCEPT the most important point of leveling the guide bar so the door doesn't roll open or closed. Useless video
