Painting a porch ceiling "Haint Blue" is a Southern thing...in the south, our southern folklore explains that ghosts, also referred to as “haints,” were not able to cross water. In order to repel evil spirits from plantations, porch ceilings were painted a soft blue. The color was meant to mimic water in an effort to keep any haints or spirits at bay -so you will see a lot of houses with big front porches in the south that paint their porch ceilings blue
So many great choices. Now, will you please come over and convince my husband that we need to paint the front door? There's a freshly baked pie in it for you.
I was attracted to meadowbrook and blue peacock as our interior has dashes of turquois/aqua/teal, tho evergreen fog would blend nicely with the exterior "camping tent".
Currently, our house is white with BM Twilight Blue on the front and side doors. Out of your colors, my favorite was Naval. There were some likes for the turquoise and green "fog" color. Just a note with the lemon color. I saw an episode of Flip or Flop on TV, where Tarek and Christina used a lemon color on the modern door with horizontal windows up and down the whole door. It looked wonderful on a mid-century modern home as a fun accent. Not so much for traditional styles. The more contemporary styles allow for more fun colors. Loved this video.
I have a yellow house with a blue door and I love it. I like to see what colors are the doors in my neighborhood and I had found very interesting choices, makes me smile when people get out of their way to make their things look unique and interesting., especially with color.
I love a peacock blue front door but I think the most crucial thing in the choice of colour is the surroundings! A burgundy red door can look terrific against white/beige/grey tones of siding but butt it next to orange-red brick and it's repulsive! My house is a reddish brown brick and painted my front door a very saturated deep petrol blue-green. I think it looks great, and a lot of my neighbours agree!
With reference to the reds, I used Cornwallis Red from Benjamin Moore's Williamsburg Collection on my white house with black trim. It's a bit brighter than these reds. I'm conservative with my paint choices and was a bit worried, but it is beautiful against its backdrop.
You commented on the blue porch ceiling with the Hazel-colored door. I've seen (and read) that there is a Southern tradition of painting porch ceilings a sky blue. That might be the reason for the paint choices on that front porch.
We own half a duplex. The house has (dark) brown brick, white stone accents, and dark brown trim. And all the houses in this new development have this brown, or sand colored trim. Would you say that's it's ok to paint my front door aqua, burgundy, or even a more distinctive color? It would be nice to have this element of individuality, in my opinion. TIA!
Depends on the colors in the brick. My brick has many shades in each stone. The main shades are rust and a kind of pink. My hoa says I need to paint it cranberry but that bugs me since it doesn't match my brick. I used a rust shade and I love it. But my first choice would have been deep deep charcoal gray.
I love Center Stage! I use lime and yellow and coral a lot inside my house so it would be perfect outside! Blue Peacock is beautiful. I'd totally use it on the door and the shutters. I hate the greys. Just hate them, lol.
I find a lot of videos with exterior front door painting, how about painting the interior of your front door. My door is a red/burgundy color inside/out. It came like that and I really hate that color inside. My house inside is repose gray and some crush ice. I don't want white either. Any videos for front interior painting you can make? Thanks
The porch ceiling being painted a Haint Blue like Hazel is a southern US tradition to ward off insects and ghosts. That may be why Hazel was continued onto the ceiling.
I actually really loved the first red and the lemon and lime colors--just not how they were used. They need to be on modern houses, with better main exterior colors. Like charcoal, black, or white, or maybe even a navy. (The lime green door on a navy house?)
You do not have to, but for me, I spend most of my time looking at the inside so I prefer to have the accent pop of color on both sides. It feels more cohesive to me. Plus, then I don't have to awkwardly figure out where the colors stop, nor do I have to put in the effort of a straight divider line.
My house is an orangey-brick, and when we bought it, the door was a brick red. Just awful. It was screaming for contrast, so I painted it a peacock blue. Gorgeous! Loved it for years, but it was time to repaint and since were planning to sell, we painted it something very close to Naval. Looks great with the bright white and black trim. I will miss the peacock, but resale value is currently the most important consideration.
I’d be happy if you came to paint my front door tomorrow… the colors I think that would go well on my front door are: Iron Ore, Naval, and Tricorn Black. (My siding is a sage green color and trim is white.) Which one do you think would work best?
The last color is so pretty, I'd love to paint my bathroom that color. My house is old and white with a warm wood paneling on the porch, black roof and burgundy shutters (that have to go). Maybe burgundy or navy for our doors.
Oh my, ... The Black, Pinkie-Coral, I like, (It works with a Dark Metal Charcoal, Soft Black, Deep Gray. The Spicy Mustard works but Lemon Yellow, not so much. (I just can not enjoy the blue based: aqua, teals, even the grays with blue, just do not offer the energy that inspires me). They feel old hospital. I am fixed on the True colors, the "Grays, Taupes, Neutrals, Beiges, and Plaster of Paris category" absent of the blues, purples, greens, "Purple Haze". Just sharing "Perspective", "Taste Choice", everyone's choice likes matter.l, even if they like aqua. That an Impt value. I love greens, w/o blue, save the rich true teal that looks great pared with soft pinks. I love the rich deep dark Purples, and Blueberry, love these. I get better reviews with these color values. In the present, I feel these clear true crisp color values help support clarity, ease, and Positive Thought Feelings. ... and it is all about Positive High Vibe, the Frequency that delivers our Dreams!

Peacock green-all the way. My current house and door are pale yellow and Benjamin Moore blue. Moderately dark pure blue. Beautiful!
My house is pale yellow too! I was trying to convince myself to go antique red. However I think peacock is better. I’m going to check out your blue!
I like all these colors! Tricorn Black and Antique Red are my favorites.
I mean, classic choices! They’re fantastic :)
So many great choices. Now, will you please come over and convince my husband that we need to paint the front door? There's a freshly baked pie in it for you.

I agree. I think you definitely have to take consideration the style and the material that the house is made with. ✨🍃🌼🍃✨
Lol.. yes, I agree with the lemon/lime blinding overload! Oooh, merlot 😍😍😍🥰
I have a yellow house with a blue door and I love it. I like to see what colors are the doors in my neighborhood and I had found very interesting choices, makes me smile when people get out of their way to make their things look unique and interesting., especially with color.
I love Peacock green! 🤩
Loved the peacock and naval, but I don't think I'm that brave.

Thank you for the multiple colors, nice video👌🏼
Naval, Deep Sea Dive, Center Stage, Grape Harvest, Merlot, Blue Peacock... love the boldness.

Antique Red, love it! Love the purple door too but it wouldn't mesh with the colour of the house.
According to a couple of articles I have read, a black front door can boost the value of your home by up to $5,000z
It’s a sharp look!
Next week I’m painting it black thank you
You commented on the blue porch ceiling with the Hazel-colored door. I've seen (and read) that there is a Southern tradition of painting porch ceilings a sky blue. That might be the reason for the paint choices on that front porch.
Yes it is a Southern tradition. I live in FL and I have blue ceilings on my porch and a couple other rooms.
Painting the ceiling of your porch, a light blue as the sky also prevents bugs from going towards the ceiling and the lights. I did that it works.
I just did mine in No More Drama. I ike it!, it was previous a premixed color called Colonial Red

Great commentary! Thank you.
Would love options for doors in a red brick exterior. The challenges are different from lighter wall colors.
Colors complimentary to the red would be the most logical and easy like green, blue, cream, black.

This is definitely something I want to do!
love iron mountain
A red door once signified a mortgage free house.
Interesting.
Cool video!
I love Center Stage! I use lime and yellow and coral a lot inside my house so it would be perfect outside!
Blue Peacock is beautiful. I'd totally use it on the door and the shutters. I hate the greys. Just hate them, lol.
#1. Iron Mountain #2. Blue Peacock #3. Grizzle Gray
Would appreciate color options for our front door. We have black trim around door and a light yellow exterior on house. Thank you.
Navel❤❤❤
I need a perfect colour fr a brown face brick house
Me too 😊

Naval for me.
Tricorn black or Iron mountain
Very nice!

Indeed.
antique red
What about brown walks ? What color for front door?
My house is sage so I like merlot along with the ceremonial gold or blue peacock

Pink
Colonial gold could be used for a soffit simulating expensive wood
How can I find out the name of the black paint used with meadowbrook ?
Would you put naval as the house color?
It is kinda dark but if you like super dark... I would choose maybe same shade and undertone but lighter
I didn’t see any homes with natural color brick. Did I miss one?
They did a wax sitch over the antique red I think.
Would your choices change when painting a garage door AND a front door on the same side of the house?
Centerstage or chartreuse is what my front neighbor did to her door. she moved and new neighbors went back to white. Thank gawd
What are your feelings about an Indigo Blue door on a gray house with white trim?
Personally, I would feel like that combo is too dark
@@carabenfield4240 Thanks for the feedback. I'll look at some "brighter" blues. Love your channel!
I want to know where all these doors are located, without a storm door. Not in the North!
Tell me about it! Snow squalls in southern Ontario today! 🥶
@@thepaintpeople I am fortunate that the snow storm decided to blow your way, We only got a dusting LOL
The South? I rarely see one down here with a storm door.
When painting your frontdoor do you paint the inside and the outside the same color?
You don't have to. My front door will be a different color in the inside than the outside.
You do not have to, but for me, I spend most of my time looking at the inside so I prefer to have the accent pop of color on both sides. It feels more cohesive to me. Plus, then I don't have to awkwardly figure out where the colors stop, nor do I have to put in the effort of a straight divider line.
paint what you love! it's only paint.
I need a color for a red brick home. . . . other than black.

Iron Ore
I was thinking 1990s brick not industrial with the powder blue door/black trim...

You can paint my door Iron ore. Antique red & Grizzle gray are okay colors, too, but Iron ore is my pick. All the rest, not for me.
👍👍👍👍👎👍👎👍👎👎👍👎👍👎👎👍👎👎👍👎👍...out of this list I would choose from Iron Ore, Evergreen Fog or Clary Sage.
