Both Cempedak & Nangka are known as 'jackfruit' amongst the English speaker, making it hard to differentiate between the two. Cempedak (Artocarpus champeden Spreng) grows mostly in southeast Asia & Nangka (Artocarpus heterophyllus) grows throughout southern India as well as southeast Asia. They share the same genus, but a different species altogether. One critical difference, you may fry Cempedak, but never try it with Nangka
As i know jackfruit is nangka..cempedak is always known as cempedak to anyone..maybe just miss information by the skin..ive seen a video from foreign people before and they know how to describe jackfruit as nangka..cempedak is always cempedak..so ,english know the different.. memandai je😁..
In the philippines we cook nangka with coconut milk it is called "ginataang nagka" it is good paired with rice 😋

Cempedak u cannot eat like jackfruit. Cempedak u have to eat when is fried. then it is very nice. it is called cempedak goreng

the cempedak you ate has lots of dietary fiber and antioxidants. Sweet like honey (madu) and this is why the stall label them as Cempedak Madu
Same with durian season, we have Mangosteen. I think you'll be happy when you eat Mangosteen..love you from Malaysia

Try nangka (jackfruit) as well. It’s similar but different. Cempedak best eaten like tempura style. Jackfruit eat raw

Almost the same as cempedak. Visual differences it has brighter skin colors and also larger in size. Taste and smell also different
Jackfruit is my ultimate favourite! But I like to have it cooked in savoury flavours. It’s delicious with rice.

Cempedak taste nicer if you deep fried it with flour. After deep fried, the seed is soft and can be eaten also. The seed will be nicer to eat with some grated coconut plus sugar and salt.

IChang you can find 1 piece of cempedak like that here in Lawas Sarawak for as low as rm5. Lawas town is not far from Kota Kinabalu. It's just 3 hours drive.
In the northern part of peninsular Malaysia (eg. Perlis) , we will either deep fried the cempedak or eat them together with sticky rice.

In Malaysia,we consume the seeds too,taste so delicious,😊..put the seeds in a large pot, cover the seeds with water about an inch of water above the seeds and boil it about 25-30minutes and reduce the heat..and use fork to Pierce it..if still hard to Pierce, boil again until fully cook..drain the water, let it cool aside and it's ready to eat, peel off the thin rusk...yummy
This stall is sometimes at SS2 PJ or Tmn Megah PJ near the market.They sell once a year whn in season.1kg - RM12...price is on the high side cos tis is cempedak madu.Very sweet indeed. They hv d deep fried cempedak 5 for RM4....however the batter for the cempedak is kind of hard whn u bite n thick. It is is not light n crispy.
The deep friend cempedak you can eat with the seeds. Very nutty and delicious. Or other options, you can boil the seeds until soft. Very recommend
Actually there two kind of jack fruit in Malaysia.
Cempedak is seasonable one and has more sharp smell and sweetier too.
Another jack fruit which is normal one and can be found almost all year around is called Nangka.
McDonald's in Malaysia currently has Cempedak McFlurry on its menu...
It's an additional variety from previous years' (D24) Durian McFlurry ice creams...
Malaysians actually call Nangka as Jackfruit, and Cempedak as Cempedak...
The place where you ate this cempedak and durian is near a Chinese food court called Wai Sek Kai where they have pretty good local food there. It's best to go there at night :)

The seeds if you boil it till soft is nutty and delicious. Boil the seeds with 1/2 spoon of salt for at least 1 hour till soft..and i assure you they are really delicious

there are hawkers selling Jack fruit in Hong Kong. I personally think it is a weird fruit coz it has weird smell so I never eat that but once I saw two western ladies trying Jack fruit on the street of HK. I find it interesting and so I stayed there to see their response. after having a bite, their comment is "smell bad......but taste good"😅

You can even eat the seed of the fruit. Gather the seeds wash it and boil with a bit of salt. Maybe about 10 minutes, then you can eat the seed.

Its was call CHEM PE DAK Chempedak..Nyami².. It nice too serve or fried as fritter chempedak, the seed can eaten too by boiing it, after that deep fried and taste like cashew nut.
I have bought fried cempedak from this seller, they can be found in ss2, taman megah and kelana jaya. I can say they are selling good quality cempedak.
