[Bellingham] Fire Department Engine 3 + Aid 3 With Lights & Siren!

Captured here is Station 3 of the Bellingham Fire Department in Washington State. You will see Engine 3 and Aid 3 responding together for a medical emergency call. The Bellingham fire department has a somewhat unique system wherein they dispatch both an Engine and an Aid unit to most medical calls.

Never knew these guys existed! Now if they also send an AMR to calls also, I wonder if that means the Aid will follow up with the AMR to the hospital if it’s ALS?

Oh they exist and they’re quite busy! 😁 I am not sure if this area has a contract with AMR. They do run Medic units as well, which are usually the ones transporting ALS patients to the hospital in Washington/ Seattle area.

@@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses hm, I’m surprised they don’t send the Medic and Aid to ALS runs, double ambulance calls are always cool for me since It’s common practice in LAFD.

@@emvvehicles_8 They might in some cases, but the system in Washington is usually that Aid cars take lower priority/ less severe calls and Medics take all the life threatening/ ALS stuff. The Aid and Engine combo may just be a safety thing (Seattle sometimes does the same when going into dangerous areas). The call that came in that day was for the Aid unit only, but the Engine ended up going along (and I hear they do this all the time with Aid calls).

@@emvvehicles_8 So AMR does not have any presence in Whatcom County, where Bellingham is located. The Bellingham Fire Department and various fire districts throughout the county are more or less solely responsible for all medicals, ALS or not. I have personally seen an engine, aid AND a medic show up for the same call, which is what I assume they do for all ALS calls. According to the city's website the engines and aids are cross-staffed (which is why there is one aid at all stations), though Bellingham is hardly ever filmed so firsthand info is pretty scarce. Hopefully someone local will see this and can give more complete info.

Bellingham Fire runs a cross staffed system. Meaning there is a crew of 3 to staff both an engine and an aid unit. They usually take both to most calls so they can go right back into service after with both of their units. If the call is an ALS medical call, the an ALS medic unit will also respond (M3 in video)

Before the pandemic, I used to go to Bellingham (6's area) quite often for gas and groceries. It was not uncommon to hear them going on calls while I was down there, but I just never really got a proper chance to hit up a fire station. 3 and 6 are the busiest, supposedly they are as busy as some of the busier suburban stations up here in the Vancouver area.
